I have been volunteering in ministryevery year,When the Ministry Fair comes around eachyear, I am reminded of the scripture whereElisha is on the mountain waiting for theLord to come and let him know what he is todo. He didn’t find His voice in the strongwind, the earthquake, or in the fire. But hedid find Him in a quiet moment when theLord came to him in a whisper. The deacon gave the homily one Stewardship Sunday morning, and he said howgood it would be if the Lord just came downand stood before us and said, “This is whatI want you to do, and this is how you are todo it.”take one step at a time, if we reach out toone person, we can make a difference inanother’s life and our lives. And then perhaps others’. These steps can be the startof saving our beloved Catholic Church, at atime of dwindling active membership aroundmuch of the world. This is the basis of St. Francis’s spiritualityand that of the Secular Franciscans’. St.Francis said to pray often and help whoeverneeds help. This is our chance. I found thatif I take time to help others, God alwaysgives me enough time to do what I have todo.Francis was told to begin a journey poor so that he could end up rich. I started notonly poor, but lost. And now I feel like therichest person alive. God has blessed me inmany ways through the Parish CommunityBut He just puts that little voice in our heads of St. Bridget, including the warm feelingand then we decide if we take it or leave it. you get from helping someone or doingsome good. It’s like no other feeling youWhen you gather volunteer & ministry infoget.this weekend, find a quiet moment in thecoming week and listen to what God is ask- When you get your info this weekend at theing you to do. Perhaps spread out the infor- Ministry Fair, find that quiet time in the weekmation before you, and ask God what He and listen for the little voice guidingneeds you to do. Then come to church this you. Sign up for only one ministry if youcoming weekend with your information, and like. If after you have tried it, and you feel itwrite down what you feel called to do.is not for you, call and cancel. No questions asked. If you find another ministry,We each have been given different abilities ask to be put on the schedule and give thatone a try. There is something for everyby God. God will help you decide whichone. And if there isn’t, suggest an idea forone is right in that quiet moment. And it’sa new ministry or volunteer activity.okay to change up now and then, to trysomething new.We keep telling ourselves that there is nothing we can do. Just because we cannot doeverything is no excuse for doing nothing, and there is ALWAYS something we cando, if we put our minds, imagination andhearts into it. There is at least one ministryor volunteer opportunity right for each of us.We know the world is hungry for justice, mercy, dignity and hope. And we can startby giving something of ourselves. If weWhen we look back from our hospice bed,we can look back and say “I did all that!”instead of saying “I wish I had donethat.” Life has no rewinds.Listen for your whisper. Find somethingand give it a try. God bless.Editor’s Note: Reprinted with Alice’s permission and note that the same philosophyapplies to volunteering your gifts with ourFranciscan fraternity both locally, regionallyand nationally.

We have twomajor feast days for her this month. Oneis the Immaculate Conception and theother is Our Lady of Guadalupe. While Iwas attending the feast day mass at Immaculate Conception Church, I was pondering so many aspects of her life. Shebecame the spouse of the Holy Spirit andreceived into her body Our Lord Jesus, and by cooperating with the divine purpose He was brought forth into our fallenworld. She shared willingly in His sufferingand so becoming a co-redemptorist withChrist who saves us from our sins, andthe consequences of those actions. Shelovingly intercedes for us and also receives our unborn children, our unwantedchildren and journeys with us at ‘the hourof our death’. She is a source of peace, asmothers are. She shows us how to obeyour God by being faithful to our vocationin life. And, she reveals to us how Joycomes with full re conciliation with Him inSecular Mass Intentions for 2017Monday, 1/30 @ 8:00 am (Communion Service)Wednesday, 2/15 @ 8:00 am (St. Bridget’s)Saturday, 3/25 @ 4:30 pm (St. Austin’s)Tuesday, 4/18 8:00 am (St. Austin’s)Tuesday, 5/16 8:00 am (St. Austin’s)Tuesday, 6/13 7:00 pm (Location TBD) St. Anthony of Padua Feast DaySaturday, July 15, 4:30 pm (St. Bridget’s)Friday, 8/25, 8:00 am (St. Bridget’s) St. Louis Feast DaySunday, 9/17 9:30 am (St. Austin’s)Wednesday, 10/4 (Location TBD) St. Francis Feast DayFriday, 11/17 8:00 am (St. Bridget's) St. Elizabeth of Hungary Patroness Saint Feast DaySaturday, 12/ 23 @ 4:30 (St. Bridget’s)heaven. I received a book two years agothat guided the reader to a consecrationto Mary. I followed the daily readings andprayers and on December 8, 2014, Imade a consecration to Mary. Throughoutthese last two years, I have tried to beintentional (not always well) about thisrelationship with her. Being named MariaAngela, it has always been a part of mebut for quite a few years I have not spenta lot of time reflecting on Mary. Recently Ivisited a fraternity and they begin theirmeetings with Saturday morning massand then a ½ hour of adoration before theblessed sacrament. Above the altar theyhad a Pieta statue and I spent the timereflecting on Mary from a Franciscan perspective. She gave ALL to God. Francishad the same desire of heart. She livedsimply and humbly. Because of her devotion to our Lord, she endured great suffering. She experienced great joy from Him.She led others to Jesus by prayer and example. YES! It is very Franciscan to pray toMary always!Recently, Time Magazine had their feature article on Mary. She has appearedmore times in the last one hundred yearsthan in all the years previously. Not all areVatican approved but most are and theyare accompanied by many miracles. Theamount of people visiting these sites andshrines and reverencing her is unprecedented. We know that Saint (Pope) JohnPaul II had a deep devotion to her andthat his feast day is on Divine Mercy Sunday. April 2017 we celebrate the 100 yearanniversary of this revelation and thereare some prophecies made about this.In conclusion, our Franciscan vocation isstrengthened and blessed by devotionand prayer to the Blessed Mother. Weshould keep our eyes and ears open toher message for us at this time in theworld.Peace, Maria

For the healing of Barb’s wrist For a return to the church forDear Tammy,Peace and Good Things! For healing for Kathy Taor-Thank you for your e-mail and your words of encouragement. While I would have preferred to return to St. Bridget's--even if just to come back and ultimately leave under bettercircumstances--I understand Fr. Patrick's decision and amaccepting it not only in a spirit of holy obedience, but also asa sign that God has other plans for me.St. Bridget's.andall who are touched by this. At the present time, I will remain in Minnesota until my legalissues are resolved. Fr. Patrick was kind enough to allowthis because he knows that I have many good and supportive people around me. On a more practical level, it will alsobe easier to move once, rather than move now and thenagain when--hopefully--I will get a new assignment. If itworks out, I would look forward to returning to St. Bridget'sbefore I leave the area to celebrate one last Mass and havethe opportunity to say good-bye to all the good people there, including and especially my Secular brothers and sisters. In the meantime, I continue to engage in the work of Advent-waiting in hope and trusting the Light of God will dispel thedarkness of doubt and fear. It is not always easy, but it isnecessary if we are to experience the newness God desiresfor us. So, continue to remember me in your good prayersand I will do the same. Secular Franciscan OrderSt. Anthony of Padua Fraternityc/o Tammy Wolney, OFS4418 Drew Avenue N.Robbinsdale, MN 55422Prayer for AdventOur heavenly Father, as once again we prepare for Christmas, help us to find time in our busy lives for quiet and thought and prayer:that we may reflect upon the wonder of your love and allow thestory of the Saviour's birth to penetrate our hearts and minds. So may our joy be deeper, our worship more real, and our lives worthierof all that you have done for us through the coming ofyour Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.Amen.Frank ColquhounPrayer for ChristmasLoving God, help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and worship of the wise men.Close the door of hateand open the door of love all over the world.Let kindness come with every giftand good desires with every greeting.Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children, and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake. Lord's Prayer (submitted by Virginia)By a 15-year-old school kidwho got an A for this entry(TOTALLY AWESOME)!The Lord's Prayer is not allowed in mostU.S. Public schools any more.A kid in Minnesota, wrote the followingNow I sit me down in schoolWhere praying is against the ruleFor this great nation under GodFinds mention of Him very odd.Julie and Rose’s niece,Diane, visit her at hernew 1BR apartmentand report that Rose isdoing well, liking hernew digs enjoying thatshe doesn’t need tocook and has had lotsof company this month.Carol and Alice haveplans to go see hersoon as well.If scripture now the class recites,It violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bowBecomes a Federal matter now.Our hair can be purple, orange or green,That's no offense; it's a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise.Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice. For praying in a public hallMight offend someone with no faith at all.In silence alone we must meditate,God's name is prohibited by the State. We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks. They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable. We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King. It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong. We can get our condoms and birth controls,Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles. But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,No word of God must reach this crowd. It's scary here I must confess,When chaos reigns the school's a mess. So, Lord, this silent plea I make:Should I be shot; My soul please take!AmenTim and Tammy had thechance to visit TomMcGrath while in DC thismonth. Tom and his sister,Marti picked us up from thelast Metro Station on theline closest to their home inMaryland and we visited attheir apartment in LeisureWorld, a 9-acre retirementcommunity. Marti served usbeverages and snacks, wewent to Saturday nightmass at their parish, OurLady of Grace, located righton the Leisure World campus, then off to dinner. Wevisited further as Marti andTom returned us back to DCand saved Tim (and me)from another Metro ride.We truly enjoyed our visit!
