After chatting with ESC’s Director of Higher Education,she decided to apply to the Management FdA. Once she had completed hercourse she topped up to BSc (Hons) Business Management at University of Surrey.Having experience in youth work for 12 years has now inspired Alam to broadenher skills into Further Education where she is now training as a Business Lecturer.Alam’s advice to prospective students is “Identify your goals and never give up onthem. Be persistent and resilient.”Construction HNC students were tasked to carry out extensive research on topicsunder the heading ‘Emerging Technologies in Construction’, using examplesfrom their workplace and knowledge gained on their HNC courses. The studentspresented their projects in front of a panel of experts from industry, as part of theirassessment.Representatives from companies such as Marco Airport Facilities Gatwick, CECASouthern, John Sisk & Son, Buxton Building Contractors Ltd and Prater assessed thepresentations, asked questions and gave the students feedback on their researchand delivery.Jess decided to stay on and study Theatrical, Media & Special Effects Make-UpHND at the College as she was familiar with the facilities and tutors. Jess’ favouritepart of her course is learning about body painting. She has taken part in lots ofcompetitions such as Warpaint and Association of Hairdressers & Therapists (AHTRegional Heats 2020) where she was placed 1st in Half Body Painting - Under TheOcean.“The 1:1s with tutors help when you’re in a smaller environment. You can build arelationship and it is one of the main reasons I continued to stay on at Diploma(National Certificate)InternationalBaccalaureateAccess to HigherEducation Diploma(National Diploma)DiplomaMyles is currently studying a Mechanical Engineering Level 4 Apprenticeshipand has been working at the University of Surrey as a Mechanical WorkshopTechnician.During the Coronavirus crisis, Myles had helped to create protective visors forfrontline workers by setting up 3D printers.
