Design: Stefano GiovannoniThe architect and designer, StefanoGiovannoni, born 1954 in La Spezia(Italy), lives and works in Milan. His workhas received international acclaim.A number of his designs can be foundin the permanent collections of theCentre Georges Pompidou in Paris andthe Museum of Modern Art in New York.According to Alberto Alessi, the ManagingDirector of ALESSI, Giovannoni is oneof the few designers who understandshow to combine the unusual with thepopular, which is also why he was commissioned to develop the first completebathroom scenario for ALESSI.A free-standing bathtub made from solidsurface Sentec in a gentle, comfortableshape with or without whirl system. Also as a fitted version. All faucets Il Bagno Alessi One areavailable from Oras.6

The collection is complemented byaccessories of functional and symbolicvalue, including a shelf with integratedtowel holder, made from revolutionarySaphirKeramik. Toilet roll holders andclothes hanger are also available. The playful, slightly eccentric form of the washbasins is quite iconic and fires theimagination without compromising functionality. The wide variety of ILBAGNOALESSI Onewashbasins demonstrates that good design can take more than one shape. From thesmall washbasin to the countertop washbasins, the character of the range is unmistakable. Most washbasins have a concealed ceramic overflow system. The ceramic of thewashbasins is finished with LAUFEN Clean Coat, making it particularly easy to clean.

The sanitary ware with its poetic designlanguage was created by the prolificItalian designer, Stefano Giovannoni.ILBAGNOALESSI One includes notonly the characteristic and spectacularwashbasins, but also an aestheticallypleasing high- quality and functionalrange of furniture, bathtubs madeof solid surface and sanitary acrylicas well as accessories made fromSaphirKeramik.10

An icon of contemporary design: thefloor-mounted TamTam by LAUFENopens up new dimensions in bathroomdesign. The taps, mounted on therim of the basin, wall-mounted orfloor-standing, combine perfectly withthe washbasin. Behind this lies anexceptionally high degree of functionality: invisible overflow, concealedconnection hoses, hidden mounting. The surfaces are top-quality NoceCanaletto real wood veneer orwhite high-gloss lacquer with aquartz cover plate. It goes withoutsaying of course that all surfacefinishes are not sensitive to water.

ILBAGNOALESSI dOt – a cooperation between Alessi, LAUFEN Bathroomsand Oras – was the first bathroom project of the designer, Wiel Arets. In drawing up the design, Arets paid particular attention to ensuring that the individualobjects did not distract from the real purpose of the bathroom – to cleanse the bodyand spirit.Wiel Arets: “The ensemble as a whole is based on the strengths of its individual parts. Each must fulfil its purpose without becoming overly dominant. All objects must, in allrespects, serve the purpose of relaxation. The design of the forms is very low key yetconsistent for all objects which means they project an overall impression of peace andtranquillity. On closer inspection, it can also be seen that their form perfectly follows their function.”While the designs of the Dutch architect and designer Wiel Arets are undoubtedly basedon intellectual concepts, they are also pragmatic. His most significant work includes the Academy of Art and Architecture in Maastrichtand the AZL Pensions Fund Headquarters in Heerlen, Netherlands.Wiel Arets was born in 1955 in Heerlen and received his diploma from the TechnicalUniversity of Eindhoven in 1983. In 1984, he founded the office Wiel Arets Architect& Associates in Heerlen, which subsequently moved to Maastricht in 1996. He haslectured all over the world at academies and universities in London, Vienna and NewYork and other cities. He currently holds the Berlage professorship at the TechnicalUniversity of Delft.

Design: Wiel Arets14

Formal and minimalistic: this is theimpression created by the elementsof ILBAGNOALESSI dOt.The unifying key element is the circle– even if this is not always obvious. The highly minimalist design withclosed form and low-key eleganceradiates an air of tranquillity.

PALOMBA COLLECTION36

Design: Ludovica Roberto Palomba

With the introduction of the successful LAUFEN PALOMBACOLLECTION in 2005 the famous Italian designers Ludovicaand Roberto Palomba created a design language that thecouple describe as a “fingerprint of nature”. The tensionbetween rigorous geometrical and organic shapes is typicalof the entire collection, and ensures that all elements can becombined with one another. If recent editions have favouredgeometrical shapes, this time round the Milanese designersare again focusing more on soft organic lines. The highlights ofthe PALOMBA COLLECTION are the “Menhir” washbasin andan exceptional bathtub. These two leading protagonists areaccompanied by a cast of four countertop washbasins, two washbasin bowls and a new bathroom furniture collection.

The PALOMBA COLLECTION offersendless creative possibilities, as many ofthe objects can be combined with eachother. LAUFEN has set itself the task ofcontinuously adding new design solutionsto the PALOMBA COLLECTION. Theversatile design tonalities give architects, interior decorators and designers awide selection of superior quality,up-to-date products at their disposalin the planning of bathrooms, thusoffering them a great opportunity:To break free from all clichés andhave full design freedom.LAUFEN extends its range of washbasinsintroduced in previous editions of thecollection by four countertop washbasinsin 50, 65, 80 and 100 cm lengths. An organically shaped bowl blendslagoon-like into the ultra-flat washbasinpanel. The central position of the bowlleaves ample storage space at either side.To match the ceramic washbasinLAUFEN has created a bathroom furnitureseries for the PALOMBA COLLECTION.It includes vanity units whose handlesand bases can be optionally selectedwith atmospheric LED lighting, a tallcabinet, medium cabinet and washtops19

Innovative axialities: organic decisive linesfor a large washbasin that characterizeand shape the entire range of architectural objects. A unique product in theworld of sanitary wares which poses areal challenge to the laws of production. This iconic 1600 mm washbasin is alsoavailable in widths of 1200 mm and800 mm. Together with the asymmetricwashbasin bowl, this washbasin wonthe coveted red dot design award.

The bathroom is also architecture. Thisroom can become a real part of thehome by devising bathtub, washbasin,WC, bidet and furniture configurations. The WC and bidet in white ceramicare available as a floorstanding bidet/WC, wall-hung bidet/WC and WC withcistern. The toilet seat has a loweringsystem. The WC seat with ultra-flatcover fits existing stylish WC versions.

Symmetrical and asymmetrical bathtubs made of acrylic andSentec mineral material. The PALOMBA COLLECTION takespure geometry to a new level. A modern international bathroom, thanks to essential shapes that are unique, sensual and readilycombinable. These innovative and unprecedented creationsmark the start of a new chapter in the art of bathroom design.23

The design of LAUFENrectangular wall-hung WCs and bidets suits this contextperfectly.
