Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,As I put pen to paper, in what will be my last letter to you as your Bishop, I am overcome with a multitudeof emotions. Feelings of great love for this community rise to the top, as well as my deepest gratitude foryour role in the diocese’s success during the past decade. As I’ve shared before, when I arrived in Dallas in 2007, I didn’t know one single person. Yet, from thebeginning, you embodied the hospitality that Texas is known for and welcomed me into this extraordinaryCatholic family.Together, we shared Christ’s love with the people of North Texas and grew our diocese into the largestfaith community in the region. We pledged our generosity (at every turn) and lifted up those in our citywho were most vulnerable and in greatest need. We expanded our K-12 education programs, ensuring thatwe’re preparing the next generation for productive lives — not only in their future careers, but in serviceto Christ and His Church. And we supported the future of our priesthood, providing the foundation forleadership in the Church for years to come. The report that follows brings my heart much joy. Together, as a diocese, we generated more than 7.5 million in pledges from morethan 26,000 members at 77 parishes during the 2016 appeal, making it one of the most successful efforts in our history. As I leave our community to serve Pope Francis at the Vatican, I ask that youpray for me, asking God to grant me the wisdom and strength I will need toserve the Church in my new role.In closing, I will cherish our time together and know that a part of myheart will reside here forever.Faithfully in Christ,“Please know that while my heart is saddened about the Dallas family I must leave behind,it is overjoyed when I look back on what we accomplished together, through Christ’s love,to make North Texas a better place.”— BISHOP KEVIN J. FARRELLBishop Kevin J. FarrellA NOTE FROM THECATHOLIC DIOCESE OF DALLASRecently, our beloved Bishop Kevin J. Farrell wascalled to his new and very well-deserved post at theVatican.
