4Meet the planning committeeLorraine Lopez-JanoveChief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Institutional Equity and Inclusion Office, SUNY CortlandLorraine Lopez-Janove joined SUNY Cortland in August 2020 as chiefdiversity and inclusion officer. Lorraine leads and supports theUniversity’s effort to promote diversity and inclusiveexcellence throughout all aspects of the institution. She leadscollaborative, strategic and results-oriented implementation of theUniversity’s strategic plan for diversity and inclusion, establishescollaborative partnerships across campus to evaluate inclusiveness,implements best practices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion,and influences policy to reflect SUNY Cortland's commitment toinclusive excellence. She is a member of the President’s cabinet andco-chair of the President’s Council on Inclusive Excellence.Before joining Cortland, Lorraine served as the CDO for three SUNYcommunity colleges, executive director of the Human RightsCommission of Sullivan County, and senior project associate at theTechnical Assistance Center on Disproportionality at NYU where sheworked with over 60 New York State schools cited fordisproportionality of minorities in special education and/or suspensionand supported school districts in the development of culturallyresponsive policies and practices.Jarvis Marlow-McCowinAssociate Director, Multicultural Student Leadership & Empowerment Program, Cornell UniversityJarvis Marlow-McCowin is the Associate Director for MulticulturalStudent Leadership and Empowerment at Cornell University. Jarvis'collaborative work on Black men’s achievement in higher educationhas been presented at conferences such as the AmericanEducational Research Association (AERA), the Association for theStudy of Higher Education (ASHE), and published in a book entitled,Recruiting, Retaining, and Engaging African-American Males atSelective Public Research Universities: Challenges and Opportunitiesin Academics and Sports.Additionally, Jarvis' collaborative writing on the impact ofdiversity-related coursework on college students' moraldevelopment has been published in journals such as the Journal ofCollege Student Development. 5Meet the planning committee continuedMaxwell SmithPresident, Men of Value and Excellence (MOVE), SUNY CortlandMaxwell Smith is from Queens, New York. He is a seniormajoring in Sport Management here at SUNY Cortland. He iscurrently the president of the reputable Men of Value andExcellence (MOVE). He first got involved with MOVE hisfreshman year after overhearing some of the amazing featuresand events that the organization hosted inside and aroundcampus. MOVE created a safe haven for people of color tohave a voice and feel welcome each and everyday. Maxwellwould love to expand MOVE’s message of high edict andresponsibility to the next generations of students here atSUNY Cortland, embodying what it means to be a man ofvalue and excellence on campus and in the outside world.Lima Maria StaffordAssistant Director, Multicultural Life and Diversity Office, SUNY CortlandLima Maria Stafford is the Assistant Director for MulticulturalLife and Diversity Office at SUNY Cortland. She was bornand raised in Carriacou, Grenada and moved to Brooklyn, NewYork in 2001. She received her bachelor’s degree in physicaleducation in May 2012 and is pursuing her master's in healtheducation at SUNY Cortland.For two years at SUNY Cortland she served as a Residence HallDirector for Bishop Hall. During her time here she served as anadvisor for Men of Value and Excellence (MOVE) and CaribbeanStudent Association (CSA). She was also the advisor for twoculturally-based Greeks organization on campus; Kappa Alpha PsiFraternity, Inc and Co-advisor for Sigma Lambda UpsilonSeñoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. She is the current advisorfor the Gospel Choir and Pyro-dynasty step team. While pursuing his master’sdegree, he taught as an adjunct professor in the physical educationdepartment, and was an Assistant Coach for the Men’s & Women’sCross Country/Track Field programs. His mission and vision as a manof color is to help students from low-socioeconomic backgroundshave a better chance and an equal opportunity to experience high quality education. In conjunction with his role, Brandon co-advises theSUNY Broome Men of Excellence program focused onensuring the retention rates and development of successfulunderrepresented college graduates. Brandon also serves onthe President’s Task Force On Diversity and Inclusion.Brandon earned his B.M. in music performance from theCrane School of Music (SUNY Potsdam) and is currentlyearning his M.S. in student affairs administration fromBinghamton University. Brandon is a proud active member ofAlpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., serving as his alumni chapter’sVice President."Mark Sanders, SUNY SystemMark Sanders is a Brooklyn native and EducationalOpportunity Program (EOP) alumnus from SUNYPlattsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in threebusiness concentrations. Tim is from the Bronx, NY, and is an activemember in Ithaca's Alumni Chapter of the Alpha PhiAlpha Fraternity, Incorporated and a member of SUNYCortland's Alumni Board of Directors.Tim is a graduate of TC3 and SUNY Cortland, where heearned an Associate's and Bachelors of Science degreein Sport Management with a concentration inInternational Sport.Bryce Wooden, SUNY OneontaBryce Wooden grew up in Oneonta, NY. SUNYBrockport’s Head Football Coach Jason Mangonerecruited him in high school and provided him a greatopportunity to attend SUNY Brockport and obtain abachelor’s degree. He graduated in 2017 and receivedhis Elementary Education degree from SUNYBrockport. He decided to follow his passion to workat the college level and he accepted a position tobecome an Educational Opportunity Program advisorat SUNY Oneonta in the fall of 2018. Bryce has nowbeen at SUNY Oneonta for two and a half years.
