TALL TIMBERS OWNERS NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2019PRESIDENT’S MESSAGEWhen becoming president of TTOA one of my many goals was the safetyof all Tall Timbers residents. We selected long term NOPD officers to oursecurity committee and have researched crime camera options for overa year. TTOA’s board has had presentations from Project NOLA and NewOrleans Homeland Security. Understanding TTOA is a covenantscommunity and residents pay annual dues, we thought it was importantto also invite residents, along with TTOA’s board members to tour andget an up-close view of how the camera system works. My goal was and remains to make Tall Timbers the safest subdivision inthe city. Partnerships have been formed with other homeownerassociations, NOPD’s 4th District, Commander Ruffin and his staff. As aresult of these partnerships we have seen increased patrols, NOPD’sparticipation in Night Out Against Crime, NOPD officers giving out candyduring Halloween in our subdivision. We have presented two (2) proposals for the camera system that will bemonitored 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. Some may think the cost is toomuch but consider most of our budget goes toward our security provider(LSG), the camera system will only enhance security that is already inplace.TTOA OFFICERSPresident- Gilbert Crowden(504) 329-6640Vice President- Laura Calcagno(504) 931-8504Secretary- Lisa DiggsButtay0517@901.comTreasurer- Jay Fielding(504) 388-0174COMMITTEE CHAIRSOver the last fifteen (15) years we have experienced car jackings, autoburglaries, drive by shootings, arm robberies and a murder. We can’t gettoo comfortable and delay the decision for cameras. We must stay aheadof the criminal element. The city has installed cameras around Woodland and in the Tullis area.Criminal activity has declined in that area, but as we all know the criminalelement moves on. Tall Timbers has taken the lead on the installation ofcameras; Park Timbers is also considering the camera system. If you would like to see cameras monitored 24 hours /7 days a week inTTOA, I encourage you to call your board member, Section Rep or sendme an email; after all it is your money. And as president, I do not get avote.I must say, this will be my last article on the camera system. I will acceptthe decision either way it goes, but just remember there has been nostone unturned to get the very best, security system for Tall Timbers. The link below is an article from The Lens publication, regarding the city’scamera system. The Lens is the only reader-supported, nonprofitnewsroom that focuses exclusively on public-policy issues facing NewOrleans and the Gulf Coast.Click here for the full article regarding the city’s camera cow-the-powerful?”See you around the neighborhood!Gilbert Crowden – TTOA 2019 PresidentLegal- John WatersSecurity- Danny EllisArchitectural- Tom ReevesSpecial Events- Ricky ScaggsBeautificationNewsletter- Donna GloverSection Reps- Alida JohnsonTall Timbers SecurityOffice: (504) 393-2923Cell: (504) 202-8690Tall Timbers web address:http://talltimbersnola.org

It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutchsuperstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on thisday sees a shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its denand winter will persist for six more weeks, and if it does not see itsshadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early. While thetradition remains popular in modern times, studies have found noconsistent correlation between a groundhog seeing its shadowor not and the subsequent arrival time of spring-like weather.Groundhog Day always falls on February 2.
