WE CARENOFIRNO (MULTI-) PIPE TRANSITSEALING SYSTEMBEELE Engineering is dedicated to fire safety. From the pictures below the text, it might be clear that fireprevention is not child s play, nor can it just be disregarded. In a fire, the partitions can get so hot that evenapproaching them is impossible. Right then it is of utmost importance that the cable and pipe penetrationseals stop the spread of fire and smoke to adjacent areas. To address this problem, BEELE Engineeringhas developed the NOFIRNO technology. The cable and pipe penetrations, based on this technology,have been tested successfully for A- and H-class, A-0 and H-0 class and Jet Fires.The NOFIRNO rubber grade, which is compoundedunder strict conditions in our factory, is suitable for gasand water tight ducting and for fire rated applications aswell.We have been involvedwith fire resistant rubbers for decades. Thedrawbacks of certainfire resistant rubbersare halogen content,hardness of the highlyfilled rubbers, hardeningduring lifetime, and highpermanent deformationsets. All these disadvantages will have animpact on performancein the long run.NOFIRNO rubber doesnot have the abovementioned drawbacks.The processing conditions for optimized compounding in our factoryassure highest performance of the rubber.NOFIRNO rubber istraceable to prevent counterfeiting and to guaranteeusers the proven NOFIRNO quality.By examining the surface charring and the rubberresidues inside the product, it can easily be determinedwhether or not NOFIRNO has been used.21) the NOFIRNO rubber shows minimum permanentdeformation and limited stress relaxation, guaranteeingmechanical stability in the long term.2) The NOFIRNO rubbercan be exposed to hightemperatures (up to180 C), making theNOFIRNO sealingsystem suitable forsteam lines.3) NOFIRNO stays flexible at temperatures of -50 C, allowing application inarctic environments.4) The NOFIRNO sealant/rubber has optimumfire stopping properties:a) creates immediatelya protective layer at thefire sideb) will not be consumedunder fire exposurec) prevents smokeemission5) Higher thermal insulation values under fireload.6) Shorter conduit depths.7) Approved for A-0 and H-0 class without the use ofany insulation. Certified up to A-60 and H-120 class.8) Successfully exposed to a 2 hour Jet Fire test.9) Can be combined with RISE and RISE /ULTRA.

WE CARENOFIRNO (MULTI-) PIPE TRANSITSEALING SYSTEMNon-insulated steel partitions (A-0) aremost dangerous in fire conditions.Generally, certificates for use on boardsships and offshore constructions areissued on the basis of a successful A-60test for A-0 up to A-60 class. However, ifthe approval is for A-0 up to A-60 withoutthe remark that the system is approvedfor steel partitions without insulation, thismeans that for these applications,insulation has to be applied (insulated)as tested for A-60 class.This may not be observed in practicesince such partitions are generally notinsulated at all. The fire integrity maythen be very doubtful in such a case.The marketplace tends to think that A-0is less severe than A-60. This is not thecase! Due to the missing insulation it isjust the opposite.The intense heat of the construction willcause all materials in the direct vicinity toignite spontaneously. The radiation heatcan be so immense that ignition mightoccur even at several meters distance.Especially with A-0 decks, the risingradiation heat of the deck, reachingtemperatures of more than 700 C,contributes to even more severeconditions. It will be obvious that theimpact on sealing systems will beextreme. Based on “no insulation”, thedevelopment of the NOFIRNO sealingsystem was started. As proven with theSLIPSIL plugs, the NOFIRNO rubberwill not be consumed by fire. For A-0class it is of utmost importance to keepthe sealing system inside the penetration.In contrast to the regular RISE system,only a limited expansion of the rubber willtake place. No material will fall off duringfire exposure at the unexposed side.The NOFIRNO sealant will follow anydeformation of the division. The thermalinsulation of the transit is maintained andno excessive temperatures will arise onthe NOFIRNO rubber/sealant.Furthermore, no smoke emission willoccur, also limiting any ignitionpossibilities at the unexposed side.3

The NOFIRNO sealant immediately forms aprotective layer and char when exposed to flames, in this way protecting the filling of the penetration seal.The thermal insulation is very high because of the air volume inside thepenetration. The air is tightly enclosed by the sealant layer at both sideseven when one side is exposed to the fire. The NOFIRNO system hasbeen subjected to A-0, H-0 and even Jet Fires without being severelyaffected. Due to the superb behaviour of our various systems, theNOFIRNO sealing system can be easily combined with RISE .The NOFIRNO rubber is absolutely HALOGEN FREE (tested according to Naval Engineering Standard NES 713: Issue 3). The sets are very flexible and can be wrapped around the ductedpipe. Furthermore, single filler sleeves can be torn off easily. The NOFIRNO rubber has a good, long lasting memory, enabling a tight fit of the sleevesinside the conduit. NOFIRNO has a balanced viscosity and can beapplied overhead.After applying the sealant, itcan be smoothed by meansof a wet cloth or by hand.Because the sealant adheresvery tightly, the cloth andhands should be wetted withwater before use to preventsealant from sticking to them.Shelf life is 12 months whenstored properly. Since we haveno control on storage, we canonly guarantee for 6 months.

WE CARENOFIRNO (MULTI-) PIPE TRANSITSEALING SYSTEMSeveral options are available with the NOFIRNO sealing system. The most simple and cost effective solutionis a fitting multi-filler sleeve applied in a conduit sleevewith an ID creating a tight fit. NOFIRNO sealant with athickness of minimum 20 mm to be applied at both sides.For oversized conduits and/or off centre ducted pipes, acombination of NOFIRNO single and multi-filler sleevescan be used. NOFIRNO sealant with a thickness ofminimum 20 mm to be applied at both sides.Conduit depth minimum 180 mm.The NOFIRNO sealing system is certified for A-0 andH-0 class without the use of any insulation. In thesecases, the only difference is that the conduit depth is250 mm instead of 180 mm. NOFIRNO sealant witha thickness of minimum 20 mm to be applied at bothsides. System is also gas and watertight.The NOFIRNO sealing system is also approved formulti-pipe penetrations of steel, copper and GRP pipesto a transit size of 1000x300 mm with a depth of180 mm only. Minimum separation of the pipes to beregarded. NOFIRNO sealant with a thickness ofminimum 20 mm to be applied at both sides.5

WE CARENOFIRNO (MULTI-) PIPE TRANSITSEALING SYSTEM1) The metallic pipe canbe passed through theconduit sleeve in anyposition, provided there isenough space between thesleeve and the ducted pipe(see next at 2).2) Make sure that the minimum space between thepipe and the wall of theconduit sleeve is inaccordance with theminimum allowed distanceas certified.6

WE CARENOFIRNO (MULTI-) PIPE TRANSITSEALING SYSTEM3) The remaining free spacein the conduit is filled withNOFIRNO filler sleevestype 27/19 and 18/12.For ease of filling, the fillersleeves are also supplied inmulti-sets of 10 pieces.The ratio 27/19 to 18/12should be about 2:1.4) Push the filler sleevesinto the conduit in such away as to leave about20 mm free space at thefront and the back. Thewhole set of filler sleevesshould fit tightly into theconduit to provide sufficientmechanical stability.Multi-filler sleeves (set of 10) areavailable for filling larger emptyspaces.Before applying the sealant, it isadvisable to perform a final checkon the packing of filler sleeves.7

WE CARENOFIRNO (MULTI-) PIPE TRANSITSEALING SYSTEM5) A 20 mm thick layer ofNOFIRNO sealant isapplied at each side of theconduit. Clean and dry theconduit opening as well asthe pipe thoroughly, andremove any dirt, rust or oilresidues before applying thesealant.Use our professional sealant guns.Hand fatigue is prevented andoptimum flow of the sealant isobtained.Note: due to the curing process, the sealantcannot be applied on hot surfaces. Maximumtemperature is 60 C. After full curing max.operating temperature is 180 C.6) The conduit should beoverfilled with NOFIRNO sealant, because somesealant will be pushedbetween and into the emptyfiller sleeves during furtherfinishing. This will contributeto obtain higher tightnessratings.People with sensitive skin shoulduse gloves when working withNOFIRNO .Please refer to the Safety DataSheet for more information.Note: time needed for curing of the sealantis dependent on air humidity in combinationwith the environmental temperature.8

WE CARENOFIRNO (MULTI-) PIPE TRANSITSEALING SYSTEM7) To smooth the surfaceof the NOFIRNO sealantlayer, a cloth is sprayedwith water. This preventsthe sealant from sticking tothe cloth. Note: do not usesoap water!8) The cloth is then usedto press down the sealantlayer.People with sensitive skinshould use gloves whenworking with NOFIRNO .Please refer to the SafetyData Sheet for moreinformation.9

No dirtyhands when working withNOFIRNO and a very neatsurface is the result.10) For A-class penetrations(which are insulated), theconduit sleeve needs tobe insulated only at theinsulated side of thebulkhead or at thelower side of the deck.The ducted pipe has to beinsulated according to thespecifications on thecertified drawings.People with sensitive skin shoulduse gloves when working withNOFIRNO .Please refer to the Safety DataSheet for more information.For A-class, minimum depth ofthe conduit sleeve 180 mm.Note: time needed for curing of the sealantis dependent on air humidity in combinationwith the environmental temperature.10
