WELCOMEIt is with great pleasure that I welcome students, teachers, parents and friends tothe NSW Catholic Primary Schools (CPS) and NSW Combined Catholic Colleges(CCC) Cross Country Championships.This annual Championship brings together students from Catholic Primary andSecondary Schools. It is an achievement for every competing athlete here today tohave been chosen to represent one of the 17 diocese/associations from across NewSouth Wales. The most successful of today’s competitors will have the honour ofrepresenting NSW CCC or NSW CPS MacKillop/Polding at State-level competition.Today, I take this opportunity to thank the NSWCCC and NSWCPS SportsCouncils and the Parramatta Diocesan Primary Schools Sports Council for theirdetailed planning and organisation of the Championships. NSWCPSCCC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPSSEATINGAll spectators are to be seated in the grandstand and no spectators are permitted on the track.SOUVENIRSNSWCPS and NSWCCC souvenir apparel will be available for purchase near the Grandstand entry.COACHINGSpectators and coaches are not allowed to run alongside a competitor at any time and are not permitted on thecourse.PROTESTProtests must be lodged in writing to the Championship Convener from the Team Manager within 10 minutes fromthe conclusion of the event. Any discrepancies from the displayed results must be lodged to the ChampionshipConvener from the Team Manager within 15 minutes of the results being announced / displayed.NATURE OF CROSS COUNTRY RACINGStudents competing in the Cross Country Championships should always promote their school and team in anappropriate manner by displaying good sportsmanship.FOOTWEARAll competitors must wear shoes. Spikes are NOT permitted as the track is not conducive to the wearing of spikes.COMPETITORSCompetitors must have their Athlete number clearly displayed on the front of their team shirt/singlet. NoIPODS, IPHONES or similar devices to be utilised whilst competing.AGE GROUPSCompetitors must compete in their own age group (i.e. the age they turn this calendar year)ENTRIESPRIMARY RULESEntry is on a Diocesan basis only. Each Diocese may enter a maximum of eight (8) athletes in each event.Additional competitors will only be permitted under exceptional circumstances at the MacKillop / Polding SportCouncil’s discretion.AGE GROUPS/DISTANCESThe Championship shall be conducted over the following distances:8/9 Years10 Years11 Years12/13 YearsAWDBOYS2 000m2 000m3 000m3 000m2 000mGIRLS2 000m2 000m3 000m3 000m2 000mINDIVIDUAL AWARDSMedals will be presented to the first three (3) placegetters in each event. Certificates of participation will bepresented to each PRIMARY competitor. Team Managers will be provided with certificates and will be responsiblefor issuing certificates.TEAM AWARDAll team members of the winning Primary Team in each event will receive medals. Please listen carefully toannouncements to ensure competitors are at the presentation area at the appropriate time. The lowest cumulativescore generated from the placings of the first five (5) runners will determine each Diocesan team placing. Whereless than five (5) runners finish, last place points plus one, will be awarded for each non-finishing runner. Ties will besplit by the team’s first runner’s finishing position.SELECTION FOR NSW CPS MACKILLOP AND POLDINGThe first six (6) place getters from each event will qualify to compete at the NSW PSSA State Championships to beheld on Friday 18 July 2014 at Eastern Creek Raceway. Polding and MacKillop Team Managers will distributeinformation packages to successful athletes and have sample uniforms available for sizing in the Hinxman room.Parents of students selected will be required to complete online registration in the Hinxman Room at the conclusionof their race.SELECTION FOR SCHOOL SPORT AUSTRALIA CROSS COUNTRYPRIMARY Students aged 13 can compete at the NSW PSSA State Championships but cannot be selected tocompete at the School Sport Australia National Exchange.

SECONDARYRULESENTRIESEntry is on a Diocese/Association basis only. CCC Team Managers will distribute informationpackages to successful competitors and have sample uniforms available for sizing in the Hinxman Room.Students selected will be required to complete online registration in the Hinxman Room at the conclusion of theirrace.SELECTION FOR SCHOOL SPORT AUSTRALIA CROSS COUNTRYSECONDARY students cannot compete at the School Sport Australia Cross Country Championships if they turn20 years or older in the year of competition.SECONDARY Male and Female Teams are selected to compete at the ASSC/AA Championships as follows:12/13 years up to the fastest 6 times from the 12 and 13 years age divisions14/15 years up to the fastest 6 times from the 14 and 15 years age divisions16/17 years up to the fastest 6 times from the 16 and 17 years age divisions18/19 years up to the fastest 6 times from the 18 years age divisionFrom the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships, a NSW All Schools Cross Country Team will be selected.To be eligible for selection a competitor must compete at this event.An athlete who does not compete at NSW All Schools Championships may only be included in the team ifhe/she is competing at a National or International Track and Field/Cross Country/Triathlon/Mountain Runningas part of a recognised ANSW or AA Team at the time of selection and has given prior notice to the SelectionPanel requesting consideration. This notification must be made to the NSWCCC Executive Officer prior to theNSWCCC Selections. Additional competitors will not be permitted.

Polding, MacKillop and CCC Team Managers will distribute information packages to successful athletes andhave sample uniforms available for sizing in the Hinxman room.SIGHTED GUIDE GUIDELINES T11/12 must run with a guide and cannot be tethered. T13 may elect to run with a guide who cannot be tethered. The guide runner must wear a bright vest supplied by the convener. It is the responsibility of the guide to ensure that the athlete is properly orientated in the start position. Theathlete must have a guide for the entire race. Athletes must bring their own guide. Competitor and guide are in competition to be regarded as a team. As a vision impaired runner crosses the finish line, the guide must be behind the athlete. The method of guidance is the choice of the athlete. He or she may choose to use an elbow lead or runfree. Holding the athlete, or the athlete’s clothing is not permitted. An exception to the rule may beallowed if the guide is needed to assist the athlete over an obstacle. Tethering between guide and athleteis not permitted. Official need to be consulted prior to the athlete’s event if this is required. In addition, therunner may receive verbal instruction from the guide. At no time may the guide pull the athlete, or propel the athlete forward by pushing. Infringement of thisrule may lead to disqualification – except where identified in 6. Over distances of 1500m two guides are allowed. Only one exchange of guides is permitted for eachrunner. No runner may be accompanied by more than one guide at a time. The exchange must takeplace without hindrance to other runners. The intention to change guides must be notified in advance tothe officials. The officials will determine the conditions of the change-over. It is the responsibility of the each team to have skilled the guide runners prior to the start.HEARING IMPAIRED GUIDELINES Hearing aids will be removed on the line one minute prior to the start or after all final instructions have beengiven, whichever is the latter. T01 Athletes will be supplied with a coloured wrist band to wear whilst competing.
