The main route for large vessels is throughPelee Passage in the N part of the area, but other passages of limitedcapacity are also available to the S. Submerged fish net stakes may beencountered throughout the W end of Lake Erie.The International boundary between the United States and Canadaextends through this area in a series of straight lines bearing from the Einto the NW.is in Canada going back to the head of the St. LawrenceRiver.Nautical charts are a fundamental tool of marine navigation. They showwater depths, obstructions, buoys, other aids to navigation, and muchmore. The information is shown in a way that promotes safe andefficient navigation. Chart carriage is mandatory on the commercialships that carry America’s commerce. They are also used on every Navyand Coast Guard ship, fishing and passenger vessels, and are widelycarried by recreational boaters.What is a BookletChart ?This BookletChart is made to help recreational boaters locatethemselves on the water. It has been reduced in scale for convenience,but otherwise contains all the information of the full-scale nauticalchart. The bar scales have also been reduced, and are accurate whenused to measure distances in this BookletChart. Witha greatest depth of 210 feet, it is theshallowest of the lakes and the only onewith a floor above sea level. The deepestpart of the lake is generally at the E end,while the island region in the W part of thelake is the shallowest. The lake has anaverage depth of 62 feet. The lake is fed atthe NW end by water from Lake Huron viaSt. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, and DetroitRiver. The only natural outlet of the lake is at the NE end throughNiagara River. Contact the other vessel, agree to another channel, and then switch.Channel 22A – Calls between the Coast Guard and the public.
