Program Manual 2022-2023Career Ladder ConceptThe Cochise College Nursing Program RN option is designed on the Career Ladder Concept topermit students several points of exit and reentry. Recognizing that many students pause in theireducation for financial or family reasons, the current program was developed so those studentscould achieve different levels of competency throughout the Program. This permits the studentto obtain employment in the health field while working in stages toward the final goal ofRegistered Nurse. At the end of the first year, students are eligible to take the National Counsel Licensing Exam forLicensure as a Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN). At the end of the second year, students are eligibleto take the National Council Licensing Exam for Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).While this concept has worked to the benefit of many students over the years, it does cause someconfusion on the part of potential students. Students misinterpret the Career Ladder Concept tomean that the first year is an LPN program. This is not the case. This Nursing Program optionis an RN option and the entire curriculum is focused toward this goal.NUR 120 Transition to Practical NurseFor first-year re-entering nursing students who have been out of nursing studies at CochiseCollege for less than one year.
