Money and time arethe two biggest factors in life,and nobody gets enough ofeither one. The garden isplanted, growing and will soonproduce its yummy treats. I’malready tired of mowing grass,and my golf game is still aspoor as ever. It does afford theopportunity to find somepeace in the wonderful outdoors for short periods oftime. I hope you all are catching lots of fish and hittingthem long and straight.The new website and app arelive and, of course, nothingnew ever goes without somehiccups. Please bear with usas we continue to correctthings and make it better. Thelatest additions are having themembers only page back upand we’ve added a contractor’s map that is interactive,so that anyone can find a contractor in their area for theirplumbing, heating and air, andother piping needs. Pleasekeep up with the newsletters,the website, the app, Facebook, your email and come tomeetings. We try to use everysource we can to communicate with the membership. Itis every member’s responsibility to maintain their personalinformation here at the local.The UA 40th General Convention will take place in personthis year. It is scheduled forAugust 23-27 in San Diego.We held our election on March22 and considering Covid,135 members voting was anOK turn out. It was great tosee a bunch of members hereat the new facility. Congratulations to all the members whowere elected. We are scheduled to have 23 delegates,and I’m certain that Local 440will be well represented. TheUA has taken a strong stancethat everyone will have to befully vaccinated from COVID19 to attend any UA sanctioned function.As a follow up on events andCOVID-19, we are movingahead with all scheduledevents for Local 440 and itsmembers. I believe that weare working towards muchbetter protocols and risk mitigation with vaccinations andwill do everything we can tokeep things outside when possible. As we continue to do allwe can to mitigate the risks,it’s every individual’s responsibility to make decisions forthemselves and their families.Please, do the right thing, andif you feel ill or believe thatyou have been exposed to thevirus, stay home, and don’ttake the chance of infectingothers.We are in contract negotiations. The Mechanical agreement was ratified on May 22and went into effect May 31,2021. The committee workedhard and brought a very goodagreement to the membership. It should be posted onthe website, and you shouldbe receiving a copy of the contract in the mail. The Serviceagreement expires on June27th and we’re meeting withour committee and then thecontractor’s group to get atentative agreement for themembers to vote on. A specialmeeting will be called for thepurpose of ratification on June26th. Per Local 440 By-Laws,official notice will be sent atleast ten days prior to the Special Meeting.We’re in the beginning stagesof finalizing design, signingcontracts, and getting permits.We’re adding a storage building out back, building a shelterout on the point by the lake,building a bridge across thecreek and putting down stonefor all the walk paths. Somedrainage work will also bedone to make the area aroundthe lake as nice as we can.We have been fortunate thatwork has been good all theway through the pandemic. Itsure appears at this point thatwork will continue to be goodfor the foreseeable future.There is more work to come atthe Justice Center. Eli Lillysays they are going to be doing some more projects. Theconvention center expansionand new hotel towers shouldbe starting in 2022. Missionfoods is building a tortillaplant in Plainfield. Greenleaffoods is working on the firstveggie burger plant on theeast side. The new IU Healthcampus is set to get started in2022 as well. School work isbooming and appears to haveno end in sight. The new Elanco headquarters at the old GMstamping plant site is anothergood project coming down theroad.As Americans we owe it toourselves and our neighborsto support American business.Buy American made and unionat every opportunity.The membership approved thecost to make some more siteimprovements to our property.Continued on page 3

The Pan-AmPlaza hotel projects are still atthe planning stage and shouldbe ready for bid late 2021 toearly 2022. The IU Health/Methodist project is still plodding forward with an expectedstart date of January 2022. Thisproject is scheduled to upwardsof 2 billion dollars of construction, and the anticipated finishdate is December 2028. BMWCand Shambaugh have bothstarted the underground phases of the Novartis and Greenleaf Foods projects with expected hirings later this summer.I would like to congratulate andthank the Negotiating Committee on a job well done for therecently ratified contract. To be electedto this committee is a show ofgood faith from the membership. Your elected committeeworked diligently to obtain a fairand equitable agreement withour signatory contractors. It ismy opinion that we achievedour goal. The committee negotiated a fair total package for ourwages, fringe benefit package,an increase in our supervisor’smoney, wages for the apprentices, and new bonding thresholdsfor our contractors. A Tip of TheOld Hard Hat goes to all ouractive members who came outand helped to ratify this agreement.It is hard to imagine that in lessthan one month we will celebrate the two hundred and fortyfifth birthday of this great nation. It will be a Florida Scramble as in the past, and is open only to members.The price of the golf this year is 50.00 for active members and 20.00 for retirees. This cost includes greensfees, golf cart, food, drinks, and prizes. You will need to be at the course by 7:00am for registration. There will bea shotgun start at 7:30am. Food will be served at the course and will be followed by awards and door prizes.Deadline for entry is July 30th. Early registration is encouraged! Teams will be made up from an A,B,C,D blinddraw. You can make up your own foursome, but you will be ineligible for team prizes. Everyone will be eligible fordoor prizes.All monies must be paid with your entry by July 30, 2021.
