Capen was the first full-time, salaried Chancellor at the University at Buffalo (UB). The Samuel P. Capen Garden Walk began in 2002 with 24 gardens, in an effort to showcase the neighborhoods surrounding UB’s South campus, which includes the University District of Buffalo, Eggertsville, Amherst, and Tonawanda. 2022 Marks the 21ST year of the Samuel P. Capen Garden Walk, a free self-guided tour of more than 50 private gardens and carefully nurtured public spaces. The Capen Garden Walk is designed to encourage neighborhood beautification and collaboration to build strong communities. CHRISTINE H. BROOKS GARDEN GRANT The purpose of this monetary award is to encourage gardeners, both experienced and new, to beautify our University Heights neighborhood and participate in the Samuel P. Capen Garden Walk. The award was established in 2016 to honor the spirit of dedicated gardener Christine H. Brooks (May 20, 1938-January 14, 2015), whose lovely garden on Larchmont Road enhanced our neighborhood for many years. ark r P ABOUT THE SAMUEL P. CAPEN GARDEN WALK If you would like to contribute to the Christine Brooks Memorial Fund, please make checks payable to “University Heights Collaborative,” write “Christine Brooks Memorial” in the memo, and send to Samuel P. Capen Garden Walk Committee sponsors two plant and seed exchanges annually, one at the beginning of the planting season and one at the end. Our goal is to share perennials and seeds, at no cost, with our fellow gardeners. We thank the many gardeners who contribute plants and seeds from their gardens and the University Heights Arts Association for providing a variety of packaged ARTseeds and a detailed planting guide. We adhere to CDC Guidelines. The Samuel P. Capen Garden Walk is a voluntary public neighborhood activity. All visitors assume personal risk for their participation and are asked to adhere to safety guidelines. ourheights.org/gardenwalk MERRIMA ea UB Anderson Gallery, 1 Martha Jackson Pl, Buffalo, NY 14214 Lin MAPS AVAILABLE AT: Private Garden Capen by Night Garden Capen Garden Walk Supporter STOP BACK AFTER DARK Capen Garden Walk by Night run Re-visit some of our gardens unde evening ambiance Find more details of these events a and on Facebook
