PAGE 2 C A V E R S WA L L, D I LHO R NE & WE S T O N C O Y NE Y P O S T “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times”. These words are quoted from “A tale of two cities” by Charles Dickens. These words are true today in view of our financial difficulties in our country where businesses are struggling, and jobs in their hundreds, including the steel industry, are being lost each week. We are seeing appalling media news each day showing the terrible suffering of the refugees who in desperation are fleeing the war in Syria to come to Europe. They are words that were true in Dickens’ day, and in the French Revolution that the book is about and indeed in the days of Mary and Joseph when Jesus was born in that stable at Bethlehem and they fled from the rage of King Herod to be refugees in Egypt. But if that is the bad news, what is the good news? At Christmas we thank God as we celebrate the most wonderful good news this world has ever known. God Himself had the humility to leave the glory of heaven and be born a tiny vulnerable baby in a stable. Everyone can relate to Jesus who would die on a cross to forgive us our sins, showing God’s love to us. The refugee and homeless can feel at home with Him as someone who understands - the ordinary shepherds feel at home in the stable amongst the animals. “Jesus is the same, yesterday and today and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8). He is always the same. His love never changes. He is always good news, the light of the world in our dark age. So we have good news to celebrate. No matter what the evils of the day, it should not rob us of our Christmas joy. So with Jesus it can always be “the best of times”. And there, to my astonishment Were folks I’d judged and labelled As “quite unfit”, “of little worth”, And “spiritually disabled”. C A V E R S WA L L, D I LHO R NE & WE S T O N C O Y NE Y P O S T PAGE 11 Dear Friends, In the Old Testament, Jabez was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work; please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!" And God granted him his request. 1 Chronicles 4:10 TLB That Scripture is applicable even today. God wants to bless you and enlarge your territory. That denotes your sphere of influence or your realm of responsibility and authority. Are you ready for increase in your life today? You may desire God’s increase, but the Bible says we have not because we ask not. Are you asking for God’s blessing? Are you calling upon Him to enlarge your area on influence? When you cry out to God to bless you, your faith is activated and this opens the door for Him to work in your life. Open your heart today and ask for God’s blessing; ask for His discernment and wisdom. Request Him to make you more effective on the job; ask Him to increase the quality of your relationships; ask for more people to love and encourage. Expect Him to enlarge your territory so that you can be a greater blessing to those around you. As you take a step of faith in prayer today, God will hear you. He’ll open doors that no man can close and pour out His abundance in every area of your life! Why not pray at this very moment? Say, “Father in heaven, today I open my heart to You and ask You to bless me. I ask You to increase me in every area and teach me to be faithful to You always in Jesus’ name. Amen.” May the Lord grant you what you have asked for and much more - in His love, George & Joyce N. B. The convention at Dehradun was attended by about a thousand people and was a wonderful time. 23 delegates were at the leadership seminar. Please pray for Joyce and I as we celebrate 34 years of marriage and as we travel to minister together in Goa. Thank you so very much. All Saints Dilhorne - Bell Ringers All welcome to join: Practices on Thursday evenings, 7.30pm-9pm, with Sunday ringing 9.30am for 10am service. PAGE 12 C A V E R S WA L L, D I LHO R NE & WE S T O N C O Y NE Y P O S T By Kathie McInnes, The Sentinel, 9 November 2015 FAMILIES from Stoke-on-Trent's oldest pre-school are planning a major celebration to mark its 45th anniversary. St Andrew's With St Peter's Pre-School began life in 1970 as a parent and toddler group set up by two mums, who knocked on doors in their community to drum up interest. Now the Weston Coyney pre-school educates two to five-year-olds, as well as offering the popular sessions for toddlers. At a time when many other early years settings have closed down due to financial pressures, it has managed to weather the challenges. Co-founder Jenny Jarvis believes its success is down to the friendly atmosphere and committed band of staff and volunteers. The 76-year-old, from Weston Coyney, said: "It all started in April 1970 when I saw a tiny notice in the church newsletter, asking people with toddlers if they wanted to come to St Peter's House. I had a little girl and another lady who went along had two little boys. "We thought why don't we turn it into a regular group? We asked other families if they wanted to come to it and, the following week, it was packed to the rafters. We couldn't believe the demand." In April 1971, they launched a fully-fledged playgroup. Today, it is the longest established pre-school in the city to be registered with the Pre-School Learning Alliance. As its anniversary straddles two dates, the birthday party will be held this coming April. Jenny, who spent three years as a supervisor there, has witnessed enormous changes over the years. "In the early days, playgroups were still quite new," she said. "The activities we offered included sand and water play, dressing up and painting. "It started with just volunteers and one qualified supervisor. But we went Co-founder Jenny Jarvis is pictured at St Andrew's With St Peter's Pre-School in Weston Coyney. on a course to train." C A V E R S WA L L, D I LHO R NE & WE S T O N C O Y NE Y P O S T PAGE 13 The pre-school is still run by a voluntary committee, but it employs six staff. Based at St Andrew's Church, it currently has 24 children on roll and is open for four-and-a-half days a week. Committee member Christine Cooper has been involved since 1983. The 66-year-old, from Weston Coyney, said: "At first, it just provided childcare. But now it's education. We have to follow guidelines and do it professionally. "We now attract families from a much wider area as well." Young children have their own early years curriculum these days and the focus is on helping them to meet learning goals. But parent Jess Allen-Robinson says it hasn't lost its family feel. The 36-year-old, from Adderley Green, added: "If parents have any difficulties, the staff are really supportive. It's about that reassurance. My children thoroughly enjoy it." Her three-year-old son Jasper and two-year-old son Reuben 'graduated' from the toddler group to join the pre-school. Fellow pre-schooler Darci Gibson, aged three, from Biddulph, said: "I like everything about coming here." By Kathie McInnes, The Sentinel, 9 November 2015 ST ANDREW'S With St Peter's Pre-school has remained at the forefront of developments in learning. And from September next year, it is to help pilot the Government's new pledge for 30 hours a week of free early years education and childcare. Three-year-olds can currently receive 15 hours for free. Danielle Cassidy, manager of the Weston Coyney-based pre-school, said: "We will be one of three settings in Stoke-on-Trent to begin offering the 30 hours provision. "To volunteer for it, you had to be rated as 'good' by Ofsted. "It will mean we can also expand our opening hours to cater for more families." The enhanced childcare offer will be available to working parents. Danielle believes pre-schools play a vital role, not only in supporting families, but helping nurture young children's skills. She added: "Early years education changes every week. We are now basically doing a teacher's job."

PAGE 18 C A V E R S WA L L, D I LHO R NE & WE S T O N C O Y NE Y P O S T Pray for Luz, Widow Being Sought by Husband's Killer - Colombia The guerilla leader responsible for the murder of Luz’s husband was released from prison in Colombia and is now seeking Luz. The man returned to the remote community where Luz now lives, telling her neighbours that he wanted to find her. Within a few days of his release, a SWAT vehicle of armed men also stopped by her farm in search of her. Luz was pregnant with twins when her husband went missing in 2007. The 30 pieces of his body were returned to the family in black, plastic trash bags. Luz and her three children have been moved to a safe location. Pray for Pastor Fausto Palomo and Church Scheduled for Demolition - Cuba Pastor Fausto Palomo and other church members stopped a demolition crew from destroying the Santiago de Cuba Assemblies of God house church on Oct. 28 by standing inside the building. The church collected thousands of signatures in favor of leaving the church in its current location, but the city has threatened to tear churches in the city down because it is the birthplace of the revolution. Churches from several other denominations have already been destroyed. Pray for Christian School Children Affected by Peshawar Bombing - Pakistan Children whose parents were killed or seriously injured in the All Saints Church bombing in Peshawar will be able to continue their education this year thanks to support from VOM and another ministry. The 30 children that VOM is currently helping are in pre-kindergarten through 10th grade. Twenty-two were orphaned in the attack, and parents of the other children were badly injured and can no longer work. In partnership with another ministry, tuition, books, uniforms and tutoring will be paid. Please pray that these children’s needs will be met and that they will succeed in their classes. Pray for "Abdul" Facing Hostility from Muslim Neighbours - Uganda After "Abdul" and his family came to Christ in a predominantly Muslim area of Uganda, they faced persecution from villagers and Muslim leaders. Local leaders came to his defence, and for the most part, the harassment ended. However, still fearful that they are being watched, Abdul and his family decided to be baptized in another village. A VOM worker says a strong discipleship team located in the region continues to see people like Abdul and his family come to Christ in spite of the risk of persecution. Some converts come openly to church events, but the team also meets secretly with believers who have not yet told their Muslim families about their new faith. Pray for Four Believers Attacked During a Hindu Celebration - India Four Indian Christians are suffering from acute injuries after they were attacked by a Hindu mob. Christians were worshipping together with a local house church on Oct. 20 as celebrations for a Hindu festival commemorating the victories of Hindu gods over their adversaries were going on outside. A mob formed outside the home and began beating the Christians. One of the Christian women was dragged outside by eight men, brutally raped and cut with a knife. One man suffered a broken knee, while another believer had six ribs and his back broken. For further prayer requests, updates and information, please visit www.persecution.com
