A Proposal for Support of A Place o The Massry Family CHILDREN’S EMERGENCY CENTER at ALBANY MED heir Own fT Albany Med needs your support to give children and teens a “place of their own” for outstanding emergency medical treatment. The new Massry Family Children’s Emergency Center, the only pediatric emergency department in northeastern New York and western New England, is slated to open this summer. Your contribution will enable us to provide a safe and special environment where children and teenagers will be tended to by experts in pediatric emergency medicine. This bright, family-friendly facility will be located adjacent to, but totally separate from the existing Emergency Department. Parents will feel secure in knowing that 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Pediatric Emergency Department will be available, just in case. A pediatric emergency department is the next logical step in the creation of the highest quality health system for the children of our community. 16,200 20% Annually, there are nearly pediatric visits to our Emergency Department. 80% 2013 2014 2015 2016 0 500 80% (more than 12,600) are treated and released. 20% (nearly 3,600) are admitted. The physicians at Albany Med’s Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital are specially trained in more than 40 pediatric fields, including pediatric pulmonary disease, pediatric surgery, Major Drivers of Pediatric ED Visits Fever and other flu-like symptoms Respiratory-related symptoms, like asthma Seizures and headaches Injuries pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric anesthesia and pediatric neurology. Albany Med houses the region’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and highest-level Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

As the region’s only Level I Trauma Center and tertiary care facility, Albany Med’s Emergency Department (ED) is the region’s point of entry for the “sickest of the sick” and traumatically injured patients. While this makes Albany Med’s ED an extremely important resource for the region, the environment is not the best for children.
