Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School Valedictorian Harsh Pankaj Patel Harsh Patel is the son of Pankaj Patel. Harsh has always valued education, a quality instilled early in his childhood by his grandparents, who didn’t have the opportunity of pursuing education in rural India. He attributes his academic success to this early emphasis on education. He has since blossomed into an exceptional leader and volunteer as a member of multifarious activities throughout his high school career. Before arriving at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School as a junior, Harsh was an officer for the National Honor Society (NHS), the Sophomore Class Vice President, and played cello for the Advanced Orchestra at his previous Atlanta-area high school, Jonesboro High School. Since coming to Orangeburg, Harsh has been selected among thousands of students across America for multiple honors and programs. He has represented his school, city, and even state as a United States Youth Ambassador, Hamilton Scholar, Washington Youth Tour delegate, and Young Leaders Summit scholar. Since transferring to Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, Harsh has been dual-enrolled at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College where he has been named to the President’s List every semester. As a result of his hard work and determination, he will also be graduating from OCtech this Spring with an associate degree in science. As a senior at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, Harsh has earned the Questbridge Scholarship, Dell Scholarship, Horatio Alger National Scholarship, APIA Scholarship, and College Board Opportunity Scholarship, among others. This fall, Harsh will be attending the prestigious Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire on a full-ride scholarship. Inspired by his own bout with heart disease, he aspires to become a pediatric cardiologist. Salutatorian Dierra Jasmine Haynes Dierra Jasmine Haynes is the daughter of Doris and Dwayne Haynes. She has always been a very loving, kind, and hardworking person. As a result of her academic achievements and record, she was inducted into the National Honor Society in both middle and high school. Throughout her tenure at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, Dierra maintained an A-average in almost every course. She has also attained 23 transferrable credit hours from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College where she has been named to the President’s List (All A’s). She became a Vocational Completer in the area of Engineering and Computer Science in the 2019-2020 school year. After graduation, Dierra will be attending the University of South Carolina Columbia in the fall of 2021. She plans to major in Information Technology.

Alma Mater (Words and music by Ralph Williams, Class of 1973) Through the years, through trials and tribulations We have come still to sing thy name. With love for thee and admiration, We give praise and joyful cheers. It saddens our hearts To know that we must leave, But still together we shall do our part And give all we have to give. Oh, Orangeburg-Wilkinson! Maroon and orange, our colors true; And we will fight, fight, fight for victory To show that we love you.
