UIC APPLICATION: APPLY NOWHow and When to ApplyThe application is available online now for the Fall of 2018. For those of you who want toget a jump start on the application process feel free to begin completing the application bygoing to Transfer Application. Be sure to complete the UIC web application (not the common application) by clicking on the box that says “Fall 2018 – Transfer, readmission, &second bachelor’s application”. Remember, as long as you have maintained the 3.0GPAyou are guaranteed admission. You will still need to include your personal statements andsubmit any other written materials required by your individual UIC college. This information can be found in your application. I would suggest you go into the application soonand take a look at the requirements and write down the personal statement questions.You may exit and return to the application at any point in time. Your application will not beconsidered until we receive your transcript that includes this semester’s (Fall 2017) finalgrades so DO NOT send your transcripts until January.Your deadline to apply is February 1, 2018. The deadline to submit supporting documents (your transcript(s) and fee or fee waiver form) is February 15, 2018.Transcripts can be ordered online through Parchment and sent electronically to the University of Illinois - Chicago. They already have our email address so no need to worry.You may also have your registrar print out a copy and you can either mail it or drop it off tous a the Admissions Office in SSB. Please be sure they are unopened. For those of youwho have a few credits from other institutions please be sure to submit these official transcripts as well. There is no way around this. You must include ALL coursework even if youfeel it will not transfer. Without this information your application will be considered incomplete and you will be denied.Note: You may receive emails from UIC stating that the deadline to transfer is March31. This does not apply to you if you intend to be admitted under the Guarantee. The GATapplication deadline will always be February 1. You are able to apply to the HonorsCollege through your general application. STUDENT RESEARCHUniversity of Illinois at Chicago students conduct research in business, education, engineering, humanities and the arts, natural sciences, mathematics, the social sciences andother fields. Undergraduate and graduate students work with renowned researchersthrough programs that pair them with faculty mentors who have similar interests.Programs throughout the university match students with scholars who help them furthertheir research interests and achievements. LASURI students work on projects in the Humanities, SocialSciences, and Natural Sciences. You may design your own project or work on yourprofessor’s ongoing project. See some examples of recent LASURI projects here.Applications for the 2018-2019 academic year will be available in January and due April2nd, but you can start thinking about this now -- reach out to your professors now tolearn more about how you might participate in a research project. You can find afaculty mentor by going to the Undergraduate Research Experience website(www.ure.uic.edu) or talking to your instructors, TAs and departmental advisors or Directorsof Undergraduate Studies.To be eligible, you must be a full-time LAS student during the funding period, and you musthave earned at least 24 credit hours by the time you begin the research project next fall,with a minimum 2.5 GPA. This competition is for students who will be enrolled in 20182019. UIC SUMMER RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY PROGRAMSophomores and Juniors from historically underrepresented minority groups:The Summer Research Opportunity Program is a paid ( 4,000) research program in alldisciplines that runs from 5/31/18 – 7/27/18. Details, eligibility, and applications arehere: -program-undergraduates.Applications are due Feb. 2, 2018.You can identify a UIC faculty member to work with before applying. Faculty in the Psychology Department are very interested in mentoring students!For example, Professor Bottoms is interested in working with SROP students on psychology and law research (e.g., jury decision making, abuse of children and animals, etc.). Ifyou are interested in Professor Bottoms' work, and eligible for SROP, please contact herdirectly (right away) to discuss your application (bbottoms@uic.edu).You can also contact other faculty (in any field) by emailing them about the program, orcompleting the online application.WEATHER ALERTSExtreme Weather PoliciesAs a matter of policy, the campus is never closed. The residential, healthcare, and researchaspects of UIC operations make this a requirement.In the event of extreme weather conditions, the campus will continue to operate duringregularly scheduled hours.In accordance with Executive Notice 94-3, all classes will be canceled if, in the judgment ofthe Chancellor or the Provost, the health and safety of students, faculty, or staff would beseriously jeopardized. In this case, the Vice Chancellors will notify units that report to them.Campus will be notified via Urgent e-mail and sms text messaging to subscribed mobilephones; the UIC.edu website; and the UIC Information Line, (312) 413-9696. Notice will besent to local radio and television stations for public announcement.Should you hear on radio or television that the campus is “closed,” know that while classeshave been canceled, buildings and offices are open and some special events may takeplace as scheduled. REVERSE TRANSFER ARTICULATIONReverse transfer articulation is a partnership with the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) andUIC where students who matriculate to UIC have the option of petitioning the City Colleges for an Associate's degree while working towards a UIC Bachelor's degree. Please notethat the Chicago City Colleges will determine whether an Associate’s Degree will beawarded following review of the UIC transcript and any other college credits earned.In order to qualify for this program you must meet the following criteria:A minimum of 15 semester credit hours earned at the City Colleges of Chicago. A minimum of 45 transferable semester credit hours earned at UIC or in combinationwith other schools attended. Submit all transcripts to CCC at the destination addresslisted below. Students must earn a grade of "C" or better in all courses used to satisfy core curriculum and general education degree requirements and hold a minimum graduation GPAof 2.0 at CCC.For general inquiries regarding the City Colleges of Chicago Reverse Transfer of Creditinitiative, please send an email to reversetransfer@ccc.edu. Source: Office of the registrar’s WebsiteCAMPUS-CARE WAIVERCampusCare is an affordable self-funded student health benefit program that has beenproviding comprehensive health care benefits to eligible enrolled students and their covered dependents at the University of Illinois Chicago, Rockford and Peoria campusessince 2004.The University of Illinois requires all students be covered by major medical health insurance therefore, provides students with the CampusCare Program Student Health BenefitProgram. CampusCare currently qualifies for minimal essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act as a self-funded health benefit program. CampusCare is not a licensed insurance company. The CampusCare fee is automatically assessed along with other tuitionand fees to the student account (E-Bill) once the student registers for courses. There is noenrollment form to complete.CampusCare allows students who currently have major medical insurance of their own towaive the CampusCare Student Health Benefit fee.Students MUST fill out a waiver at the beginning of every academic year in order forthe CampusCare charge (of 570 per semester) to be removed from their studentaccount.Students who miss the Fall deadline of each academic year will have to pay theCampusCare premium for that semester, but do have the option of waiving coverageduring the Enrollment Period for the Spring semester. VENTRA U-PASS DISTRIBUTIONSpring 2018 CTA Ventra U-PASS Distribution begins January 10, 2018.In order for an existing Ventra U-PASS to activate on January 10, 2018, returning studentswill need to register for a full-time course load for the Spring Semester by December 31,2017. Please be aware that if you register late and you use your Ventra U-PASS on trainsor buses, you may end up with a negative balance because your U-PASS has not beenloaded for the spring semester.
