ALL SAINTS CATHOLIC SCHOOLBOARD REPORTSeptember 2019Call the order, opening prayer by father Rich.Approval of May minutes motion by father Rich and seconded by Becky CostelloNo old business discussed.Teacher ReportNew teacher Debbie Meyer is the art teacher. She worked part time before and is gladto be here. Jeanne said she’s doing a great job already.Savanna Moeller is the new fifth-grade teacher. Her first job and she’s from theUniversity Iowa.Carla Ruff is the new counselor. She’s from the Cedar Rapids area and has her mastersfrom Loras college.Sara Hawkins, 5th through 8th grade band. Everything is up and running with 56members in the middle school and 41 members in 5th grade band. They’re working on acouple songs for the fall performance. They will also be starting On Christmas music.Sheila Fowler - 3rd grade teacher - she took a class on zones of regulation - aboutgetting kids to handle their feelings. Blue zone - sad or bored, yellow zone - overlyexcited or frustrated, red zone - not knowing how to calm down, and eventually gettingeverybody to green zone which is calm and focused. She also has a calming cornerwith stress balls, magnets and beanie babies.Deb Wilson is the librarian. She presented a book selection for everyone from TeddyBear club through 8th grade. Middle school comes in every other week so she has preselections for them. Book fair starts on fun night and will go through the weekend andthe next Tuesday.FACILITATOR OF FAITH COMMUNITYSeptember Masses:September 18-Fr. MensahSeptember 25-Fr. SiaOctober 2 -Fr. Blessing of the Pets- We will have the blessing of all of the student's petson October 4. This will begin at 2:10 pm out on our playground. Fr. Appeland Fr. Young will cover this event.Catch the Spirit- This year we are going to begin a new character buildingprogram at All Saints. This program is a learning process that enablesstudents and adults in our school community to understand, care about andact on core Christian values, helping all of us to form attitudes and actionsthat help us make a safe, informed and caring school. We want children togrow up to be happy, mature, and successful Christian men and women whocan make good choices that reflect their faith.Each month, students from each grade will be recognized for showingattitudes and actions that reflect Catholic teachings.Each month the students will hear the definition of a virtue, Bible verses,stories in the life of Jesus where He showed virtue, a saint who showed aparticular virtue and ways to practice the virtue in everyday life. It is ourhope that each student who comes to this school feels safe and feels lovedand respected because all of us are practicing these virtues.Students will be nominated by the teachers each month based on actionsand behaviors witnessed in the classroom and on the playground. Thestudents recognized will get an out of uniform day, their picture on thebulletin board, and they will also get an ice cream treat.Faith Formation-We will have two special All Saints Catholic School Massesthis school year. On November 23 the 4:00pm Mass will feature many AllSaints students and there will be a taco dinner afterwards in the parishcenter. January 25, 2020 we will have an all school Mass at Holy Familywith a spaghetti dinner afterwards in the All Saints cafeteria and gym.Standard #1VisionDiocesan Principal Meeting-Mrs. Von Feldt and Mr. Sowells attendedthe diocesan principal meeting that was held on September 10 in Iowa Cityat Regina. Enrollment , Teacher shortages, Vision 2020, ISASP, and ourbook study, Help for Billy, were discussed.Enrollment seems to be pretty stable. New students for 1st and 4th grade arecoming in tomorrow as well as a 2nd grader. This will put us at 443 total. We aremaintaining probably better than a lot of Catholic schools. That is coming from

Jeanne after being at a principal meeting that she and David attended in Iowa cityrecently.Standard #2CULTURE AND INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMPreschool-This began on August 28 with an enrollment of students.Mock Trial-There are approximately 16 All Saints Middle SchoolStudents that are participating in this extra-curricular activity. Jen Olsen,an attorney and a former Holy Family parent, is the attorney coach for thisgroup with Cheryl Jones as the faculty advisor. These students will beactually participating in a trial at the County Courthouse on October 26, andon that day they will be competing against area schools.Middle School Parent Back to School Night –This year we sent out adigital copy and also a hard copy to all Middle School Parents on September6. Grade information, expectations, curriculum, and athletic eligibility wereprovided.Middle School Interventionist –Our Middle School Math Interventionist,Pauline Thomsen, meets with 3-4 Middle School Students each classperiod and tutors these Students in Math. She works very closely with ourMath teacher, Isaac Silver. She is also a mentor to our new teacherDebby Meyers.Tutoring for Middle School Students-All of our Middle School Teachers,Pauline Thomsen, Cheryl Jones, Sandy Thomson, Isaac Silver, AshleyBennett, Adam Tucker, and Maddie Seuter tutor any Middle SchoolStudents that would like extra help with their assignments every morning at7:15 am or after school until 3:00 pm.Title I- All Saints Title I Program serves 123 students K-8 in reading and orMath. Isaac Silver, Donna Vinar, Jen Truninger and Mary Morrison, arethe teachers in this program which is held 4 days of week from 3:00pm-4:00pm. Julie Strahl, and Sue Ryder, Title I Paras from Davenport PublicSchools, also provide services to our Title I students.Making Sense of Mathematics and Teaching ProfessionalDevelopment-April Pforts, a state of Iowa Mathematics consultant,connected All Saints Catholic School with Dr. Vicki Oleson at the Center for

Teaching and Learning Mathematics (CTLM) at the University of NorthernIowa. The CTLM will provide professional development and focus on thecontent of number sense and operations, and implementation of NumberSense Routines. These sessions will occur on four different dates and ourTitle II funds are paying for this professional development.Standard #3ManagementFire Drill-We had our first fire drill on September 10.Tornado Drill-We will have 2 during the month of SeptemberSafety Plan-We have submitted our Safety Plan for All Saints CatholicSchool to Brian Payne, the Assistant Coordinator for Scott CountyEmergency Management Agency and are awaiting his feedback. Ouremergency site for All Saints Catholic School in case of a disaster has beenapproved.AJ Barry will be doing a safety project next month for his Eagle Scout.Nancy presented the budget and said it has been submitted but still needs to be put inQuickBooks. Jeanne indicated we had a 25,000 donation geared towards St. Al’sstudents. We also have a 10,000, 2000, and 1000 donation recently.Standard #4CollaborationPracticum Students- We have students from St. Ambrose who will bedoing their practicums with our teachers.Father Martin Golf – Mrs. Von Feldt attended the dinner at the KC’s onAugust 22. It was a huge honor for our school to be selected and manyfavorable comments were made about our students.thChess Club-Eileen O’Brien and Adam Tucker will be hosting an All SaintsCatholic School Chess Club again this year with an attendance of 40students grades K-8! This club meets every Tuesday from 2:30 -3:45pm.Trunk or Treat-All Saints will have our second “Trunk or Treat” on October29 which will be coordinated by Lyndsey Maloney and Tracy Wren. Therebe more information coming home as the date gets closer.Veterans Day-Plans are being put into place for our Veterans DayCelebration which will be held on November 5. There will be moreinformation as the day gets closer.St. Mary’s Celebration-Mrs. Von Feldt attended the St. Mary’sCelebration that was held on Sunday, September 8.Standard #5EthicsKayla Ruff had lunch with all of the new students and this and theirfriendship groups that she has established has helped them make thetransition to All Saints much more successful.
