FOREWORDThis manual provides instructions for the Installation, Operation, and Maintenance of theGoulds Models 3196, CV 3196, HT 3196, LF 3196, NM 3196, 3198, and 3796. This manualcovers the standard product plus common options that are available. For special options,supplemental instructions are supplied. This manual must be read and understood beforeinstallation and start-up.This instruction manual covers several different pump models that all have a common powerend. Most assembly, disassembly, and inspection procedures are the same for all the pumps.However, where there are differences, they are called out separately within the manual. Thedesign, materials, and workmanship incorporated in the construction of Goulds pumps makesthem capable of giving long, trouble-free service. The life and satisfactory service of anymechanical unit, however, is enhanced and extended by correct application, proper installation,periodic inspection, condition monitoring and careful maintenance. This instruction manual wasprepared to assist operators in understanding the construction and the correct methods ofinstalling, operating, and maintaining these pumps.Goulds shall not be liable for physical injury, damage, or delays caused by a failure toobserve the instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance contained in thismanual.When intalled in potentially explosive atmospheres, the instructions that follow the Ex symbolmust be followed. A pump is a pressure containing device withrotating parts that can be hazardous. Operators andmaintenance personnel must realize this and followsafety measures. ATEXcertification is a specification enforced in Europe for non- electrical and electrical equipmentinstalled in Europe. The usefulness of the ATEX requirements are not limited to Europe, andare useful guidelines for equipment installed in any potentially explosive environment.SPECIAL ATEX CONSIDERATIONSAll installation and operation instructions in this manualmust be strictly adhered to. In addition, care must betaken to ensure that the equipment is properlymaintained. ATEX IDENTIFICATIONFor a pumping unit (pump, seal, coupling, motor andpump accessories) to be certified for use in an ATEXclassified environment, the proper ATEX identificationmust be present.The ATEX tag would be secured to the pump or thebaseplate on which it is mounted. ANSI Family Parts CommonalityAll of Goulds Pumps horizontal ANSI pumps are based on the same power end. Allof the metallic units share the same stuffing box covers and seal chambers. Thenon-metallic units all have unique casings, impellers, and seal chambers. An integral foot support isused for maximum resistance to misalignment anddistortion from piping loads. ANSI flat faced serratedflanges are standard. ANSI class 150 raised faceserrated, ANSI class 300 flat face serrated, and ANSIclass 300 raised face serrated are available.ImpellerThe impeller is fully open and threaded tothe shaft. The threads are sealed fromthe pumpage by a Teflon O-ring for the3196 and 3796. The HT 3196 uses aGraphite O-ring.The casing is top centerline discharge and self-venting.It has an integrally cast priming chamber that allows thepump to evacuate air to prime itself. The gasket is fullyconfined. An integral foot support is used for maximumresistance to misalignment and distortion from pipingloads. ANSI class 150 raised face serrated flanges areavailable as an option. The casing comes with aprovision to accept an immersion heater to keep theliquid in the priming chamber from freezing in outdoorapplications.The casing is top centerline discharge, self-venting,and centerline mounted. The casing support is usedfor maximum resistance to misalignment and distortionfrom thermal piping loads. The centerline mountedcasing maintains vertical alignment at elevatedtemperatures. ANSI class 300 raised face serratedflanges are standard.The casing is tangential discharge and available withoptional connections for venting, flushing, and solidscleanout. It is sealed using a Viton O-ringas standard. An integral foot support is used formaximum resistance to misalignment and distortionfrom piping loads. ANSI class 150 flat face flanges arestandard.The impeller is fully open and threadedto the shaft. It is a fiber reinforcedvinylester over a Hastelloy C insert thatprovides support and rigidity to theimpeller while securing it to the shaft.The threads are sealed from thepumpage by a Teflon O-ring.The casing is top centerline discharge and self-venting.The ductile iron casing is lined with PFA Teflon forcorrosion resistance and is offered with ANSI class 150raised face flanges. The casing gasket is a Teflon envelope with a compressible filler that provides apositive seal with low bolt torque.The impeller is fully open and threaded tothe shaft. It is constructed of a PFA Teflon covered steel insert. The insert providessupport and rigidity to the impeller whilesecuring it to the shaft. Cover / ChamberPower Ends2The 3196, CV 3196, HT 3196, LF 3196, and 3796are available with a stuffing box cover designedfor packing and BigBore or TaperBore PLUSseal chambers for improved performance ofmechanical sales.An optional dynamic seal is available whichuses a repeller to pump liquid out of thestuffing box while the pump operates. Astatic seal prevents leakage when the pumpis shutdown.Frame Adapter - The ductile iron frame adapterhas a machined rabbet fit to the seal chamber/stuffing box cover and a precision dowel pin fit tothe bearing frame. The 3198 frame adapter hasthe same features but different dimensions toaccommodate the pump’s Teflon lining.Power End - The oil level is viewed through asight glass. Optional oil cooling is provided bya finned tube cooler. A finned tube cooler isstandard with HT 3196. Flood oil lubrication isstandard. The power end is sealed withnon-metallic labyrinth seals. No machining isrequried to convert from oil to grease or oil mistlubrication. Regresable bearings and oil mistlubrication are optional.Shaft - The shaft is available with or without asleeve. When supplied with a Teflon sleeve,the 3198 shaft is knurled under the sleeve toprovide a positive drive for the sleeve.The NM 3196 is supplied with a fiber reinforcedvinylester backplate to accommodate a clampedoutside single seal. The backplate is also availablewith an internal bypass flush. An optional bolt onseal chamber is available for conventional back-toback double seals.Bearings - The inboard bearing carries onlyradial loads. It is free to float axially in theframe. The outboard bearing is shouldered andlocked to the shaft and housing to enable it tocarry radial and thrust loads. All fits areprecision machined to industry standards. Theinboard bearing is a single row deep grooveball bearing. The outboard bearing is a doublerow angular contact bearing, except for the LTXwhich uses a pair of single row angular contactball bearings mounted back-to-back.The 3196 is supplied with a PFA Teflon lined backplateto accommodate a clamped outside single seal. Alsoavailable for the backplate is a bolt-on metallic sealchamber for conventional back-to-back double seals.An optional PFA Teflon lined standard bore stuffing boxcover is available for conventional single clamped seatinside or outside seals.
