I believe you probably know of the sources for Thomas in NC in Bute Co., NC DeedBook 2 p. 7 -10/7/1767 - Mark Thornton, Jr. to his brother Thomas Thornton for 150 acresin Bute on Little Creek. Deed Book 7 p.15 for Thomas Thornton of Chatham Co., NC toDozer Thornton of Bute Co. for 150 acres in Bute on Little Creek. Deed Book 7, p.17 Dozerand wife Betty to Mark Thornton, all of Bute Co., NC. for 150 acres on Little Creek.
