12 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLEA WORD ABOUT YOUR KEYSIgnition SystemKey Fob with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) — If Your vehicle may be equipped with either a WirelessEquippedIgnition Node (WIN) which operates similar to a standard ignition switch, or a Keyless Ignition Node (KIN)Your vehicle uses a keyless ignition system. This systemwhich allows the driver to operate the ignition switchconsists of a Key Fob with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)with the push of a button, as long as the Remote Keylesstransmitter and a Wireless Ignition Node (WIN) withEntry (RKE) transmitter is in the passenger compartment.integral ignition switch. You can insert the Key Fob intoWireless Ignition Node (WIN) — If Equippedthe ignition switch with either side up.Standard Blade Ignition Key — If EquippedYour vehicle may use a standard blade key ignitionsystem. The authorized dealer that sold you your vehiclehas the key code numbers for your vehicle locks. Thesenumbers can be used to order duplicate keys from yourauthorized dealer. Ask your authorized dealer for thesenumbers and keep them in a safe place. You can insert thedouble-sided standard blade key into the ignition switchwith either side up.The Wireless Ignition Node (WIN) operates similar to anignition switch. It has four operating positions, three withdetents and one that is spring-loaded. The detent positions are OFF, ACC, and ON/RUN. The START positionis a spring-loaded momentary contact position. Whenreleased from the START position, the switch automatically returns to the ON/RUN position.InformationProvidedby:

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE 13Keyless Ignition Node (KIN) — If EquippedThis feature allows the driver to operate the ignitionswitch with the push of a button, as long as the RemoteKeyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is in the passengercompartment.The Keyless Ignition Node (KIN) has four operatingpositions, three of which are labeled and will illuminatewhen in position. The three positions are OFF, ACC, andON/RUN. The fourth position is START, during startRUN will illuminate.Wireless Ignition Node (WIN)1234— OFF— ACC (ACCESSORY)— ON/RUN— STARTNOTE: In case the ignition switch does not change withthe push of a button, the RKE transmitter (Key Fob) mayhave a low or dead battery. Turn the Key Fob to the OFFposition and then remove the Key Fob.Refer to “Electronic Vehicle Information Center(EVIC)/Personal Settings (Customer-ProgrammableFeatures)” in “Understanding Your Instrument Panel”for further information.NOTE:CAUTION! For vehicles not equipped with the Electronic VehicleInformation Center (EVIC), the power windowswitches, radio, power sunroof (if equipped), andpower outlets will remain active for 45 seconds afterthe ignition switch is turned to the OFF position.Opening either front door will cancel this feature. For vehicles equipped with the EVIC, the powerwindow switches, radio, power sunroof (if equipped),and power outlets will remain active for up to 10minutes after the ignition switch is turned to the OFFposition. Opening either front door will cancel thisfeature. The time for this feature is programmable. If your vehicle battery becomes low or dead, yourKey Fob will become locked in the ignition. Do not attempt to remove the Key Fob while in thiscondition, damage could occur to the Key Fob orignition module. Only remove the emergency keyfor locking and unlocking the doors. Leave the Key Fob in the ignition and either: Jump Start the vehicle. Charge the battery.InformationProvidedby:

(Continued) Before exiting a vehicle, always apply the parkingbrake, shift the transmission into PARK, and pushignition button to place ignition in OFF position.When leaving the vehicle, always lock your vehicle. Never leave children alone in a vehicle, or withaccess to an unlocked vehicle. Allowing children to be in a vehicle unattended isdangerous for a number of reasons. A child orothers could be seriously or fatally injured. Children should be warned not to touch the parkingbrake, brake pedal or the shift lever. Do not leave the Key Fob in or near the vehicle, orin a location accessible to children, and do notleave the ignition in the ACC or ON/RUN position.A child could operate power windows, other controls, or move the vehicle. Do not leave children or animals inside parkedvehicles in hot weather. Interior heat build-up maycause serious injury or death.(Continued)CAUTION!An unlocked car is an invitation to thieves. 18 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLEKey-In-Ignition ReminderOpening the driver’s door when the Key Fob is in theignition and the ignition switch position is OFF or ACC,a chime will sound to remind you to remove the Key Fob.NOTE: The Key-In-Ignition reminder only sounds when theKey Fob is placed in the OFF or ACC ignition position.The system uses a Key Fob with a factory-mated RemoteKeyless Entry (RKE) transmitter and Wireless IgnitionNode (WIN) to prevent unauthorized vehicle operation.Therefore, only Key Fobs that are programmed to thevehicle can be used to start and operate the vehicle. Thesystem will not allow the engine to crank if an invalidKey Fob is used to start and operate the vehicle. Thesystem will shut the engine off in two seconds if aninvalid Key Fob is used to start the engine. If equipped with Electronic Vehicle Information CenterNOTE: A Key Fob that has not been programmed is also(EVIC) the EVIC will display “Key In Ignition”.considered an invalid key.SENTRY KEY姞During normal operation, after turning on the ignitionThe Sentry Key威 Immobilizer System prevents unauthorized vehicle operation by disabling the engine.
