TURN ON PUMP1Turn on the pump bypressing the ON/OFF hardkey, in the lower right cornerof the pump.If auditory and/or visual signals do notperform according to settings, or if the hardkeys do not perform as expected, do not usethe pump and contact your infusion provider.OPEN DOOR31Open the safety door. Usingyour thumb, press the dooroutwards. If gray latch ispresent, press on the latchitself outwards.2While maintainingpressure, swing thesafety door outwards.

INSERT CASSETTE1Verify all clamps areclosed. At an angle,place the saddle on theround metal anchor andclip the upper end of theadministration cassetteinto the metal lock.If the set includes a filter, make sure thefilter’s arrow points in the direction ofthe flow.2Make sure the arrow on thecassette is pointing towardsthe bottom of the pump.3Close the safety door andensure that the safety doorclicks upon closure.Sets are single use. Use Aseptic technique.Only use administration sets designated(or designed) for the Sapphire pump.4

PRIME THE CASSETTEUSING THE PUMP!Before priming, verify that the Administrationset is disconnected from the patient.1Verify that the administrationset is disconnected from thepatient.2From the toolbar of the StartUp screen, press PRIME.3From the Attention screendisplayed next, press OK.Priming begins. A progress circle appears on the screen,with a time countdown displayed. Default priming time is 2 minutes. The pump automatically indicates whenpriming is complete. Priming can be stopped by pressingFINISH PRIME in the lower right handcorner of the screen and then OK fromthe confirmation screen.!During priming with the pump, air and occlusion detectionalarms are inactivated. While priming, ensure IV set is open,that there are no occlusions and that fluid, not air, enters theadministration set.Ensure all air in the IV set is replaced by fluid.* It is recommended to prime using the pump. It is possible to prime manually.Please see User Manual for details.** Priming with the pump is available at anytime before pressing “Start”5

STARTING AN INFUSIONWITH PRESET PROGRAMS1From the StartUp screenselect PreSetPrograms.2Select the rowof the desiredprogram.3Review theparameters thatare displayed,then press OK.4From the Startscreen, pressStart.If no PreSet infusion parameters have been programmed for thecurrent infusion mode, a blank screen appears.Verify that the parameters reflect the current treatment accordingto the prescription.6

TO PAUSE/RESUMEAN INFUSIONTo pause an infusion using thePAUSE function key:1From the toolbar, press PAUSE,then select OK. After 30 secondsan attention screen will appearand an auditory alarm will sound.Select OK.To resume an infusion:1From the toolbar, select CONTINUE.2From the toolbar of the running screen, select OK.The main display appears and the infusion resumes.NOTE: If you do not select OK within several seconds, the infusion will not pause andan alarm will sound.TO STOP/RESUMEAN INFUSIONTo stop an infusion using theSTOP hard key:1At the bottom of the pump, press STOP. Theinfusion pauses.To resume an infusion:1 From the toolbar, select CONTINUE.2From the toolbar of the Attention screen, select OK.The main display appears and the infusion resumes.TO STOP AN INFUSION IN AN EMERGENCYIn case of emergency, you can stop pump operation by openingthe safety door, closing the clamps, removing the administrationcassette from the pump, and disconnecting the administration setfrom the patient.7

TO REMOVE CASSETTE1When the infusion is complete,disconnect the administrationset from the patient, closethe clamps and disconnectthe administration cassetteby raising the metal lock thatsecures it to the pump.TURN OFF PUMP1To turn pump off, press andhold the ON/OFF key forfive seconds.ALARMS1When an alarm sounds, pumpwill immediately provide amessage with the error and asuggested resolution.2Follow suggested alarmresolution, then press OK.If still unresolved, contact yourinfusion provider.Alarm volume may be configuredto maximum or minimum. Whenthe option is set to minimum,messages are provided with avisual signal only.8

CHARGING THE BATTERYThe pump can operate while it is being charged.To preserve battery life, connect the pump to awall outlet, using the power supply cord, wheneverpossible.To charge the battery:1With the white arrows facing up, plug the plasticend of the power supply cord into the Sapphirepump power socket.2Plug the other end of the power supply cord into awall outlet.3On the front of the pump, verify that the ChargeLED status indicator is ON (blinking yellow light).The yellow LED will remain steady on when batteryis fully charged.An alarm is triggered when there are 30 minutes left untilbattery depletion. This time may vary depending on the deliveryrate, the frequency of pressing the keys and whether thebacklight is on. When the Battery Depletion alarm sounds, orfollowing long periods of storage, connect the pump to the walloutlet, using the power supply, immediately.9

WARNINGS!Avoid placing the administration set or power cord on the flooror any other location where it can accidentally be damaged orprovide a risk of strangulation, particularly due to excessive length.!Before charging the battery, ensure that the device iscompletely dry. Failure to do so may compromise patient safety.Ensure that only a rechargeable LI-Ion battery designated forthe Sapphire pump is used.Do not operate pump with the safety door open.When using filtered-sets, maintain filter level below the vascular accesssite.Do not pull or stretch the tubing in any section of the administrationset when the pump is in use or apply pressure to the reservoircontainer.Ensure that the bottom flange is inside the cassette housing.!Do not place the Remote Bolus Cord where the button mightaccidentally be pushed. Accidentally pushing the button maydeliver an inadvertent demand bolus.!When using a mini-cradle, the bolus handle must be connecteddirectly to the pump.!PCA and PCEA: The demand bolus option should be used onlyby the patient. Administration of a demand bolus by anyoneother than the patient (especially if the patient is sleeping orsedated) incurs the risk of potentially fatal overdose.!Make sure there is no leakage from the container, and that thespike is firmly attached to the container.International Distributor of:Some content redacted by HomeMed2850 S.
