Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 15-08-44-001I.Canadian Upgrade Program OverviewCanadian wireless service providers plan todecommission their 2G Code Division Multiple Access(CDMA) network through 2015. OnStar currentlydepends on active and functioning 2G CDMA networksto deliver services. As a result, in order to continue toprovide OnStar services without interruption,Canadian vehicles that do not have OnStar 3G/4GLTE will need a hardware upgrade.In order to upgrade their vehicle hardware and continuereceiving OnStar services, a customer will receive aletter from OnStar with instructions for the upgradeprocess when the hardware is available for installationon their vehicle. There are different versions ofhardware required for vehicles that will be available atdifferent times in early 2015, so it is important thatcustomers first receive the communication fromOnStar to begin the upgrade process.Note: Refer to PI1533 for additional repair instructionsthat may be required for select models to ensure properhandsfree voice recognition performance.Notice: Canadian OnStar equipped vehiclestravelling into the United States are to be serviced aswould any U.S. vehicle while visiting, or relocating, tothe United States. In addition,customer should not be charged labor costs.Dealers can charge GM the labor for the upgradeas specified at the end of this bulletin used thelisted labor operation.All GM vehicles built in 2000 and after, and thatare equipped with digital hardware, are eligible foran OnStar hardware upgrade.Bulletin No.: 15-08-44-001JPontiac G8 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 – #PIC6184: VoiceMessage Displayed On Radio After OnStarUpgradeNote: A dealer may notice "VOICE" displayed on theradio after installing the Upgrade. Remove terminal 12of X2 connector and tape it back in the harness toresolve the concern. Use the unique labor operation inthe #PIC6184.Aftermarket Equipment InstalledPrior to starting the upgrade the technician shouldinspect the radio to verify that the GM originalequipment radio is present and functioning. If anaftermarket radio, navigation, amplifier, or bluetoothhas been hard-wired into the vehicle, ensure that theService Advisor is aware and the customer hasapproved to go ahead with the upgrade given the riskthat their aftermarket accessory and/or OnStar mightnot work after the upgrade has been completed.Note: The following statement was presented to thecustomer in their original offer communication.“Vehicles equipped with hard-wired aftermarketelectronic equipment, such as radios, receivers,navigation systems, amplifiers and bluetooth systemsmay not be compatible with the upgraded OnStarhardware. If this type of equipment is installed in yourvehicle and you choose to upgrade your OnStarhardware, your OnStar system and the aftermarketequipment may not operate after the upgrade, and youwill be responsible for any extra costs associated withupgrading the vehicle’s OnStar hardware, includingany costs to reverse the installation.”Part Ordering Process – Active OnStar SubscribersTo upgrade their vehicle to an OnStar 4GLTE(Generation 10) or 3G (Generation 9.4) system, thecustomer must do the following:1. Currently have an active OnStar service plan.2. Have received an upgrade communication letterfrom OnStar .Note: OnStar will communicate to subscribers whentheir specific hardware is available. Not all hardwaretypes will be available at the start of the program.3. Go to the website www.onstar.ca and sign into theirOnStar Account to accept OnStar’s “User Terms,Privacy Statement and Software Terms.”4. Wait for selected Dealer to schedule anappointment with the customer.Take the vehicle to the dealership on the appointmentdate for the hardware installation and activation.Part Ordering Process and Hardware Installation –New Unsold Vehicles on Dealers Lot1. Dealers will automatically receive OnStar hardware upgrade kits for affected dealer newvehicle inventory beginning spring 2015.Note: Not all upgrade modules will be available atprogram launch, modules will be release for dealerinventory when they are available. Upgrade kits areVIN specific, installing a kit in another vehicle will causeconfiguration issues and might result in damaging themodule.2. Dealer will be provided a summary by e-mail of theparts being shipped (FEDEX) to their dealershipfrom York Electronics.Note: On reviewing the list, if the vehicle is no longer inthe dealer inventory (either due to sale or dealer trade)contact York by phone, e-mail, or fax to get a ReturnMaterial Authorization. The OnStar activationmessage will begin to play once the vehicle is driven1.6 km (1 mile) and will play at each key cycle until thePage 3vehicle is sold and the customer has accepted theOnStar User Terms, Privacy Statement and SoftwareTerms. For some vehicles the OnStar icon on theradio display screen will be grayed out and inactiveafter the upgrade. This icon becomes active once anactive OnStar account is added to the vehicle. It isimportant to note that the Wi-Fi feature will be activeand can be used in demonstrations.Customer Hardware UpgradeTo complete the hardware upgrade for a customer’svehicle to an OnStar 4G LTE (Generation 10) or 3G(Generation 9.4) system, the dealership will completefollowing below:1. Direct all customer questions to OnStar . If the customer has received the upgrade letterand they have additional questions, they cancall OnStar at 1-877-935-8717 (English/French) or by pressing their blue button.2. Dealers will be notified daily by e-mail of ordersplaced for their dealership with related customercontact information.3. Dealers will contact the customer to schedule anappointment. Technician will verify VIN and customerinformation on Kit with VIN of installationvehicle (do not install hardware if VIN does notmatch).Note: Installing the hardware in the wrong vehiclemight damage the hardware. Tech will complete installation of hardware. Tech will use Service Programming System(SPS) to activate the hardware. The upgrade module can only communicatewith the GDS 2 diagnostic tool.Tip: Some 2013 and prior vehicles are supported bythe Tech 2 diagnostic scan tools. The Tech 2 is notcapable of communicating with the upgraded OnStar module. GDS 2 must be utilized to perform diagnosticsspecific to the upgraded OnStar system on thesevehicles.Note: It is important to correctly complete the followingstep in order to avoid manual configuration.4. The technician will push the OnStar Blue Buttonto confirm successful activation.5. Upon confirmation of successful activation, thevehicle is ready for customer pick up.Software issues related to this bulletin:Issue #1Issue Description:After Gen 9.4 CDMA EOL Upgrade the vehicle will notbe capable of a door lock/unlock from an OnStarAdvisor. Unlock service for the customer will beprovided with Roadside Assistance, which is includedin all paid OnStar Service Plans. There is no impact tocustomer key FOB functionality.

There is no impact to OnStar services orvehicle functionality in any way.For the HUMMER H2 MY 2003-2007 Follow theInstructions Listed Below:Note: Technician will verify VIN and customerinformation on Kit with VIN of installation vehicle (do notinstall hardware if VIN does not match.)Cause:1. To access the OnStar module, refer to theService Information (SI) for the appropriateprocedure.Note: After the removal of the original OnStar module, modification of the new module is required tosecure the module into place.The vehicle originally used a GM approved cell phonethat could plug into the vehicle. That handset has beendiscontinued, and is thus not present.
