Iknow the Calamvale Special School really appreciated the 500.00 donation and also the donation ofour last few Gold Tin Cakes for their Raffle at the Spring Fair (14th September).They have advised that they have teachers and parents from the Calamvale Community College nowhelping out on the day and so will be OK for manpower. But I’m sure that if you wanted to stop by toshow some support to the School, they would certainly say hello.I was very excited that at our last meeting we approved the Calamvale Lions Mo-ment and lookforward to start getting things organised! If you are not aware, we have now had to move it downstairsto the function room so plenty of tickets, I really hope everyone gets behind this and make this a hugesuccess! I know we have a lot of fun things to happen and if you would like to help out please let meknow!Over the last month on Facebook, I have been showcasing some of our recycling projects that we do,we have received some great feedback of other clubs now starting to collect the bottle caps & breadtags. Don’t forget to bring your bottle caps and bread tags to the meeting!Convention is coming up fast, this year it will be held at Southport Sharks which will be 25th-27thOctober and this year’s theme is Wave of Change. The registration form should be out within the next2 weeks. I hope to see all of you there!That’s it from me!Have a great September!ThanksAmandaSeptember is Lions Childhood Cancer Awareness Month : In recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, Lions are encouraging Australiato support Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation Lions attempting to break the world record for ‘Longest Coin Line’ with 5 cent pieces before providingthe funds to Lions Australia Childhood Cancer Research Foundation Over the past 10 years, the Australian Lions Childhood Research Foundation has raised over 10million for Childhood Cancer research including 1.3 million of thecurrent 4 million Lions Kids Cancer Genome Project with theGarvan InstituteSee the Lions Australia Facebook page for more info on this month’s project .No member birthday’s in September.

Club Projects UpdateWoolworths BBQs :The next sausage sizzles at Sunnybank Hills Shoppingtown Woolworths are on :14th September12th October16th NovemberIf you can help out, please let Lion Alex know which shift you can do.Christmas Cakes & Puddings :Large & Small Lions Christmas Cakes, Traditional Christmas Puddings and also theMini Individual Cake Slices are all available now. Get them now before the Christmasrush - or why not get one now for your morning tea :-)Lions Mints :Our Lions mints one of our club members’ work place and have steady sales. Lionsmints are all 60c per roll.If you would like to put some mints in your workplace just let us know.Eye Glass Recycling :We are up to 840 pairs of recycled eye glasses collected to date.Keep them coming in. If you know of a new Optometrist that may be willing to collectglasses for us, let us know and we can approach them to see if they will collect.Cash for Bottles & Cans :Don’t forget to bring in your plastic drink bottles & cans for Lion Arthur to cash them inthrough the Containers for Change program. All monies raised are being donatedback to our Lions Club.Bread Tags for Wheelchairs :We are now collecting “Bread Tags for Wheelchairs”. They are sold / recycled andthe monies raised from the sales are used to fund wheelchairs for needy SouthAfricans. This is a very easy one to collect.Bottle Tops :We are now collecting the plastic “Bottle Tops” from the bottles. They are shaveddown, and using a 3D printer, are made into prosthetic limbs for children. We arecollecting the bottles, so now just keep the lids.Balls of Wool :Balls of wool of any size - brand new or just the ‘odd ends’ from your knitting projectsare used to make beanies for the homeless. Any donation of 8 ply wool is greatlyaccepted. Just let us know and we can also arrange collection.Used Postage Stamps :Keep your postage stamps - which are sold through the Australian Lions Stamp Cluband the monies donated to Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation for Walkers forchildren with Cerebral Palsy.Small Hotel Toiletries :Any small hotel toiletries that you get from that ‘weekend away’ - keep them if youhaven’t used them, and we’ll put them into packs and they get given to thehomeless / those on the streets. Don’t leave them at the hotel - bring them home.
