FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH310 Oak Street, Irwin, PA 15642724-863-6858October 2021 - NewsletterOCTOBER 1, 2021From the Pastor . . .My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,What shall we talk about today? How aboutthings you never hear in church? “Hey! It’smy turn to sit in the front pew!” or “I was soenthralled, I never noticed that your sermonran over time for 25 minutes.” Or “I love itwhen we sing hymns I have never heardbefore.” ( from jokes.christiansunite.com)That is right, smile! Isn’t it great when weknow we are going on vacation soon? Just toknow that you are going to a better placewhere it is more relaxing and fun, well, it kindof lifts you up even before you go. Myfriends, we are going on vacation soon. Weare going to a place that is peaceful and fun.We are going someplace where there are noaches or pain of any kind in our bodies, minds, or spirits. We are going to a placewhere everyone knows us and loves us justthe way we are. Some people call this placeHeaven, some call it home, and some call itthe promised land, but no matter what youcall it, it is far better than this place and it willlast forever, all eternity. That is a promisefrom God for all who believe in Jesus Christ.See John 3:16.Until we go, we have work to do for the sakeof the Gospel, work that was prepared inadvance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 “Forwe are God’s handiwork, created in ChristJesus to do good works, which God preparedin advance for us to do.” That work includesusing what we have for His glory so thatothers will come to know Jesus Christ theway we know Jesus Christ. There is nothingmore important than salvation. So, when wegive to the church we are giving to do thosegood works that God prepared in advance forus to do. The world needs us to do goodworks because there are so many bad worksbeing done all around us every day. It is sad. After all, it is important to remember that thisworld is not our home – Heaven is and itawaits our arrival. Until then please keep theFaith.God loves you and so do I,Pastor BruceOCTOBER 2021 - NEWSLETTEROur Mission Statement“The First United Methodist Church of Irwin existsto make disciples of Jesus Christ. We are a community of believers, centered on Christ, united by God’s love, andempowered by the Holy Spirit.”OUR CHURCH IS OPEN FOR IN-PERSONACTIVITIES AND WORSHIP SERVICES.While we all continue tobe cautious, at FUMC wewant everyone to knowthat they are welcome tocome and fellowship inperson with their churchfamily. October 2021 - NewsletterSaturday Worship Reflections. When is the last time you celebrated the fact thatyou are a new creation in Christ? If you reflect onyour life, isn’t it amazing to think about how you arenot the person you once were? God is alwaysworking in our lives to make us more and more likeHim.This is the idea behind the song “Look WhatYou’ve Done” by Tasha Layton. The phrase “lookwhat you’ve done” may conjure up feelings ofshame or regret, as most of us have likely heardthat accusing phrase spoken to us while a finger isbeing pointed at us. But this song puts a positivespin on that phrase in worship to God:Look what You've done, look what You've done inmeYou spoke Your truth into the lies I let my heartbelieveLook at me now, look how You made me newThe enemy did everything that he could doOh, but look what You've doneDon’t forget who you are! The enemy will comeagainst you, and try to make you believe the liesthat the wrong you’ve done is far too great for Godto forgive. This is where it’s so important to makesure you are surrounding yourself with the truth. What are you letting into your heart? What kind ofmusic do you listen to? May I suggest you tryKLOVE radio (98.3 in this area)? What are youreading? Do you have a daily devotional? Howoften do we hear a pastor saying at our Saturdaynight service, “Read your Bible, read it often, didyou know there’s an app for that?” J There aredevotional apps out there too, Our Daily Bread isone of them!May I suggest you allow the following verses totake root deep in your spirit:“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, aholy nation, God’s special possession, that youmay declare the praises of him who called you outof darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9)“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)Be sure to join us for Saturday night worshipsometime this month!Page 6Be sure to join us for Saturday night worshipsometime this month!LauraAre you interested in being a partof the Saturday night worshipteam (6pm service)? We are inneed of musicians (on guitar, keyboard, or percussion) who arewilling to play/sing on a regular orsemi-regular basis (once amonth, twice a month, every week? Theschedule is up to you!). October 2021 - NewsletterPage 82021 Stewardship Campaign – Where is God Calling You?We have an exciting church wide study for this year’s Stewardship Campaign entitled “Whereis God Calling You?” We will be following the Right Now Media series “Living Generously” byJack Alexander during each service over the five weekends of the program. 3Each week, a Stewardship Committee representative will present a short Right Now mediaTEACHING moment video and mention a few wrap up items for that week. We are asking everyoneto view a full video from the Living Generously series prior to each service. During our first weekend,we will also show the full video during the service to launch the program. For those unable to accessto Right Now Media, we will also show each full video 10 minutes before each subsequent service atSaturday evening and Sundays in October. You can post this page on your fridge or computer orwherever it will remind you to take this time each week to review the session before worship.October 2/3 – “First” – This week we kick off our Stewardship Campaign. We have 3 goals– our spiritual growth, our time and talent growth, and our finances. This week’s video isFirst. We are talking about Your love for God and His love for You. During worshipeach of the five Sunday’s, we will show a brief summary/teaching video. This week we willbe showing both videos in worship. If you are not signed up for Right Now Media, pleasecontact Pastor Bruce at preacherptl@gmail.com or Ron (Youth Director) atron.slavin@irwinfirstumc.org .org and they will sign you up. If you are unable to accessRight Now Media, please come to worship 10 minutes early each week to view the video atthe church. WHERE IS GOD CALLING YOU TODAY? Next week’s video in the LivingGenerously study is called Defense at 3?episode 3. Please watch this before you attend service next week.October 9/10 – “Defense” – Years ago Kenny Rogers and Dolly Pardon had a song” Let’sTake the Long Way Around the World”. In short, the song talked about setting a priority foreach other and taking the time to enjoy companionship. In today’s world we often get caughtup in the daily rush of things and sometimes forget what is the main purpose and priority thatGod has for us. Stewardship this week asks you to reflect on how you set your priorities.WHERE IS GOD CALLING YOU TODAY? Next week’s video in the Living Generouslystudy is called Poor 3?episode 5 .Please watch this before you attend service next week.October 16/17 – “Poor” – Whether you are 18, 28, 58, or 88 have you changed fromwhere you were 10 years ago. Are you able to do more than you could before or are youmore challenged in trying to accomplish things? God’s message is clear – he needs you tohelp bring people to him. Some things you can do will take a lot of time and effort, othersare quick and simple and only needed once in a blue moon. All tasks are valued equally inGod’s eyes – it is not the size or amount of time each offers – it is the amount of sacrifice ittakes for each person to offer that time and talent. This week we have included in thebulletin a list of many of the ministries here at First United Methodist Church. WHEREIS GOD CALLING YOU TODAY? Next week’s video in the Living Generously study iscalled Tower at 3?episode 7. Pleasewatch this before you attend service next week.Stewardship Campaign (cont.)

Page 9October 2021 - NewsletterOctober 23/24 – “Tower” – Does time drag on for you or did you blink and it is 10 yearslater? Time is something we can never get back. What are the most important priorities inyour life and how you spend your time? Most of us spend it with those we love the most.Sometime we tend to forget that includes all God’s children even those that are hurtingand need to see God’s love the most. It may be as simple as noticing the cashier that ishurting and could use a word of encouragement. This doesn’t really take much time butcan be a gift beyond measure to that cashier. What are some other ways you canspend your time in God’s work? WHERE IS GOD CALLING YOU TODAY? Nextweek’s video in the Living Generously study is called Seedtime at 3?episode 9. Please watch this before youattend service next week.October 30/31 – “Seedtime” – This is our final week of the 2021 Stewardship campaign. We hope you have enjoyed the church wide study Living Generously as much as we have.Today we ask you to answer the question we have been asking all month. WHERE ISGOD CALLING YOU TODAY? You will find in the bulletin today 3 commitment cards. There is the financial commitment card that you most likely have seen and used before. But new this year is the faith growth commitment card and the time/talent/servicecommitment card. We will use the faith growth cards to try to implement various biblestudies or meetings to help you grow in your faith. We will use the time/talent/servicecommitment card to help you find ways to ministry to those in need. Please prayerfullycomplete these cards and return to the ushers, or the offering box, or to the churchoffice! Thank you for your prayers and support!

billionaire entrepreneur is an established phenomenon and China, for example, has created a significant share of the world’s self-made female billionaires. We believe that, like economic growth, great wealth creation has cycles. Wealth creation tends to move in S-curves, rather than growing linearly. At the end of the
