BeamClamp Components Type BA & BBThe types BA and BB are commonly used in pairs to clamp two steelsections together. The type BA has a recessed top to grip the headBAof a grade 8.8 setscrew or bolt, this allows a nut and washer to beBBtightened down on to the flat top of the BB using one tool only. Bothclamps are available with three tail lengths 1,2 or 3 (dim E), thisshould be as near to the thickness of steel it is clamping on or slightlyless if an exact match is not possible. Packing pieces BF1, BG1 andBH1 can be used in combination with the tail length to achieve amatch to the steel flange, please see page 24 for these items. BAand BB types are suitable for parallel flanges and flanges up to 8degrees taper. They can also be used on their own if one piece ofthe steelwork has been pre-drilled. To simplify the selection of taillengths and packing pieces please see the tables on pages 30 to 31. Please note when using tapered steelwork it is the edge of the steelthat we require, see our tables on pages 50 and 51 for edgethickness dimensions. The Safe Working Loads are based on assemblies tested intypical conditionsHot Dip Galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461Manufactured from Ductile Iron to BS EN15635 to 1 Factor of SafetyLloyds Register approvedDIBt approvedProductcodeProductcodeABolt dia.(Grade8.8)B(mm)C(mm)D1(mm)D2(mm)1E (mm)23Width(mm)Torque(Nm)Tensile SWL (kN)per bolt(5:1 Factor of Safety)Frictional SWL (kN)per four bolts(5:1 Factor of Safety)BA G08BB G08M0891659/4/2061.25/BA G10BB G10M10122061145726202.5/BA G12BB G12M121525.57134.569.529.5705.751.3BA G16BB G16M1617319175.5811361509.873.9BA G20BB G20M202135112171012.54429016.4711BA G24BB G24M2426491325912165349021.118Do not exceed the Safe Working Load (SWL) specified16ACCESS TECHNOLOGIES LTD 2018 www.beamclamp.com

BeamClamp Components Type BK1The BK1 is a self adjusting fixing that consists of two parts. Themain body provides a recess to allow a hemispherical washer to beM16, M20M08, M10, M12seated. This allows the body to adjust between a specified clampingrange and as the washer rotates it provides a flat surface for a nut. This mechanism makes the product suitable for clamping to taperedsteelwork of up to 15 degrees, it is also extremely useful for projectswhere the thickness of steel may vary. The M08, M10 and M12versions feature a tab at the back edge that can be located in theopen ends of strut products, both aiding installation and preventingrotation once installed. Should the maximum clamping range beexceeded our BF2 and BG2 packers can be used to increase it,please see page 24 for details. The Safe Working Loads are based on assemblies tested intypical conditions.ProductcodeABolt dia.(Grade 8.8)B1BK1G08M08BK1G10M10 Hot Dip Galvanised BS EN ISO 1461Manufactured from Ductile Iron to BS EN15635 to 1 Factor of SafetyLloyds Register approvedSelf adjusting body styleTorque(Nm)Tensile SWL (kN)per bolt(5:1 Factor of Safety)4161.250.2141203.130.43B2CDWidth3 to 123 to 937143 to 153 to 124721Frictional SWL (kN)per four bolts(5:1 Factor of Safety)BK1G12M123 to 183 to 154817417010.041.41BK1G16M163 to 24N/A6122.54715016.103.39BK1G20M203 to 30N/A73265829026.445.63Do not exceed the Safe Working Load (SWL) specifiedACCESS TECHNOLOGIES LTD 2018 www.beamclamp.com17

Specifying the Correct BeamClamp ProductCorrect product specification stating type, size and tail length togetherdetails are known. Types BK, BE1 & BE2 are solutions when beamwith packing piece combinations are essential to achieve a safe fixingdetails are unknown, these adjustable types require a check to ensuresolution. However before creating a BEAMCLAMP bill of materials thethat the maximum clamping thickness has not been exceeded; if itfollowing information is required:has then reference to the tables are necessary to choose the correctpacking pieces.1) Diameter of fixings or the required SafeWorking Load (SWL) of the connectionTables on pages 30 and 31 in conjunction with the Safe Working Loads(SWL) stated in the individual product pages assist this selection2) Details of the steel sections beingconnectedwithout using calculations. Dimensions and section properties can beobtained from Steelwork Dimensions pages 50 and 51 or StructuralSteel Handbooks.Types BA/BB & BT/BW are the most economic solutions when beamExampleWhat products are required when using a M12 bolt to connect two different steel sections together?Top flange 7mm thick (BA), Bottom flange 9mm thick (BB)Refer to adjacent Table 1 extractsSelect Clamp TypeSelect Flange ThicknessTop Section Solution1) Select bolt diameter (M12)2) Select Clamp type (BA)3) Select Flange thickness (7)ANSWER1 No. BA1 G121 No. BH1 Z121) Select bolt diameter (M12)2) Select Clamp type (BB)3) Select Flange thickness (9)ANSWER1 No. BB2 G121 No. BH1 Z1230ACCESS TECHNOLOGIES LTD 2018 www.beamclamp.comM12M16Flange (t)mmBA or BBBK1BK1BA or BBBE1BK14XXOKXXOK51OKOK1XOK62OKOK1XOK71 BH1OKOK1OKOK82 BH1OKOK2OKOK92 BH1OKOK1 BH1OKOK103OKOK1 BH1OKOKSelect Flange ThicknessBottom Section SolutionSelect Bolt DiameterSelect Clamp TypeFlange (t)mmSelect Bolt DiameterM12BA or BBM16BK1BK1BA or BBBE1BK14XXOKXXOK51OKOK1XOK62OKOK1XOK71 BH1OKOK1OKOK82 BH1OKOK2OKOK92 BH1OKOK1 BH1OKOK103OKOK1 BH1OKOK

FastFit SystemThe FASTFIT product has been designed to connect steel sectionstogether without the need for drilling, welding or the need to makespecial location plates/brackets. The tables below demonstratethe time that can be saved by using the FASTFIT system whencompared to a standard welded or bolted connection. The majority of the time and cost is saved by the reductionin preparation and labour time.
