MESSAGE FROM THEPRESIDENT, WMOAssalamu Alaikum Warahmathullahi WabarakathuhuIn the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.WMO returned to Pakistan after 11 years and it is with sense of prideand joy to be back in Pakistan where there is so much love and pride forWMO. We had a President gracing our Gala Dinner, a private audiencewith a Prime Minster and Community hosted by a State Governorspeaking volumes of respect and recognition the Memon Communityhas earned over the years in Pakistan, a legacy we need to protect andnurture. The achievements of WMO since the founding in 2002 is many andwhat we have done in 2018 is detailed in the Annual Report presentedhere. We have continued our legacy of serving the Humanity in all partsof the world regardless of race and creed but with special attention onour own brothers and sisters.Social Service is not a Sprint but a Marathon and only the determinedand committed continue the race and achieve victory of purpose. While we have endured and continue in our Marathon since 2002 thefinish line is still far away. “Our Vision” of uplifting the Global MemonCommunity out of Poverty, eradicating illiteracy among our people andshelter and healthcare for our brothers and sisters is far away, but withthe dedication and commitment of our Members far and wide I amconfident we are running the right race and we will get to the finish linesooner than later. This requires all our members from the Trustees, Patrons and Ladies andYouth to continue their unselfish commitment and loyal to our causeand making their contribution in their own ways, some with funding, others with leadership, while some will contribute with their time andefforts. My only request from all my brothers and sisters is remember allwhat we are doing is finally to seek the pleasure of Allah (SWT) and wemust continue this Marathon without any fame and glory for ourselvesand only to live “Our Vision” for the Community and Humanity.WMO Legacy Projects were conceptualized at the 15th WMO AGMin Ras Al Khaimah to fast track our vision through large scale focusedprojects. Since then I am happy to report Legacy projects have beeninitiated in North India, Pakistan and Africa chapter for housing, healthcare and elderly care etc. In time to come I am confident theseprojects will continue to showcase the Philanthropy of the MemonCommunity, a legacy of our forefathers.2 18ON ORGAEMNMWORLDONATIISITELIFTUNANNUA LREP ORTUPSERVING MANKINDOn a special note, 2018 saw the blooming of our Global Youth Wingafter the changes to the constitution in 2017. The B2B Conferenceorganized by the GYW speaks volumes of the talent and capabilities ofour younger generation and it is with sense of satisfaction to know thefuture of WMO can pass on to capable hands of the next generationsin the near future. One of our priorities for 2018 was to bring changes to the Constitutionto address some long standing short comings in the Organization andgear it to the future challenges, however due to time constrains and thesheer magnitude of the necessary changes could not be completedand I hope we can complete this task before the next AGAM when newOffice bearers will have to take the helm of WMO.I wish to place on record my appreciation for my fellow Trustees,Patrons, Office Bearers and the regional teams for their wonderful teamwork, Members of the Executive Committee (ExCo) and ManagementCommittee (MC) for their unflinching support and constantencouragement, the Sub Committees including the Ladies Wing andYouth Wing for their efforts and our General Manager, CFO and otherregional staff for their untiring efforts to get us to where we are today. As a final note I like to remind ourselves with a quote from the HolyQuran – Surah Baqara “verse 177 – Where Allah SWT commands us.To spend of your substance, out of Love for HIM,For your kin, for the orphans, for the needy, forthe wayfarer and for those who ask, and for theransom of slaves - to be steadfast in prayer andpractice regular charity.SalaamsSuliman Noor Mahomad (Solly Noor)President, World Memon Organisation13

My sincere thanks toall my fellow Trustees and Colleagues of WMO, Ladies and Gentlementhank you for joining us in Dubai. The market conditions in 2018 in Dubai saw further depression from2017 levels and this has wiped out 15% of the value of our real estateportfolio since 2016. The Rental Yield continue to fall resulting in thereduction in operational cash surplus in Trustee Income.2018 was a game changing year for WMO with the expansion of theGlobal Youth Wing consequent to the change in the constitution at the15th AGAM. The Global Youth leadership teams were appointed at theInternational and local levels across all chapters during 2018 under thestewardship of fellow trustee Brother Bashir Sattar. With alineup of a heavy hitters from Government, Business, Media and Civilsociety. The B2B conference witnessed the Beta launch of the new WMO Appdeveloped by the GYW. Once the App is fully operational we will seegreater connectivity among the Global Memon Community and takingof WMO to the new Digital World .The Chapter have continued their admirable work with the new kid onthe block “Northern India Chapter” leading the way in the number ofprojects undertaken and lives impacted positively. Long Standing StarPakistan Chapter had to face some very unforeseen and unfortunateincident which dented their otherwise stellar performance in thepast but happy to note the Chapter has overcome these unexpectedobstacles and since then has managed to move forward and get backon track.Of course all this and more has been only possible due to behindthe scene untiring work of the Office Bearers ably marshalled by ourPresident Solly Bha. If not for the passion and love this team has forWMO none of the achievements would have been possible, Thank youSolly Bha and your team. Finally, my gratitude to all the Office Bearers, Management CommitteeMembers, Sub Committee Members, Youth and Ladies CommitteeMembers and staff at all Chapters for their time and loyalty towardsWMOJazakallah KhairHaroon KarimChairman, Board of TrusteeOn the negative side, the growth in Zakat Collection and Membershipnumbers continues to remain a challenge. Over the years this has beena much discussed topic at all WMO gatherings. Various strategies andoperational plans have been agreed, but the execution of these plans atCentral and Chapter has been weak resulting in the desired outcomesnot been achieved.2 18ON ORGAEMNMWORLDITELIFTUNANNUALR E P O RTONATIIS14UPSERVING MANKIND
