Charging the hearing aids4.1 Using the Charger Case or Mini Charger3.2 Connecting the power supplyPlease refer to chapter 6 for how to set up the charger.a1dInsert the hearing aid into the charging inserts.Make sure the left and right hearing aid markings matchthe left (blue)/right (red) indicators next to the charginginserts. The hearing aids will automatically switch offwhen inserted into the charger.cba) Plug the larger end of the charging cable into the powersupply.b) Plug the smaller end into the micro-USB port on thecharger.c) Plug the power supply into a power outlet.d) The indicator light is green when the chargeris connected to the power supply.13Audéo V-R contains a built-in and non-removablerechargeable lithium-ion battery.Before using Audéo V-R for the first time, it isrecommended to charge it for 3 hours.The hearing aid must be dry before charging,see chapter 10.Please ensure to charge and use the hearing aidwithin operating temperature range: 0 to 40 Celsius (32 to 104 Fahrenheit).142The indicator light will slowly blink until the hearing aidis fully charged. When fully charged the indicator lightwill remain on, i.e. solid green light.The charging process will automatically stop when thebatteries are fully charged, so the hearing aids can besafely left in the charger. It can take up to 3 hours tocharge the hearing aids. 4.2 Using the optional Power PackNote: The Power Pack is only compatible with the Charger Case.1Attach and lock the Power Packto the Charger Case.2Plug in the micro-USB and connect to an external powersupply. The Power Pack and hearing aids will be charged atthe same time. While connected to an external powersupply, the Power Pack indicator light will show thecurrent battery charge status.Before using Power Pack for the first time, it isrecommended to charge it for 3 hours.The Power Pack contains a built-in and nonremovable rechargeable lithium-polymer battery.Do not hold the tubes for removing the hearing aidsfrom the charger as this can damage the xReceiver.17185. Left & right hearing aid markingsThere is a red or blue marking on the back of the hearingaid. On/OffThe push button has two functions:To switch the hearing aid on or off firmly press the buttonusing the tip of your finger for 3 seconds until theindicator light blinks.Short pushThe push button on yourhearing aid can havevarious functions or isnot active. Removing the hearing aid11Place the hearing aid behindyour ear.Pull on the bend of the tubeand remove the hearing aidfrom behind the ear.2Insert the earpiece into yourear canal.In very rare cases, your earpiece can remain in yourear canal when removing the hearing aid from theear. In the unlikely case that the earpiece does getstuck in your ear canal, it is strongly recommendedto see a medical specialist for safe removal.3If there is an anchor attachedto the earpiece, tuck it intothe bowl of your ear to secureyour hearing aid.2324

Care and maintenanceDiligent and routine care of your hearing aid and chargerscontribute to outstanding performance and a long servicelife.Please use the following specifications as a guideline.Further information regarding product safety, seechapter 16.General informationBefore using hair spray or applying cosmetics, you shouldremove your hearing aid from your ear, because theseproducts may damage it.Your hearing aids are resistant to water, sweat and dustunder the following conditions: After exposure to water, sweat or dust, the hearing aidis cleaned and dried. The hearing aid is used and maintained as described inthis user guide.DailyHearing aid: Inspect the earpiece for earwax andmoisture deposits. Clean the surfaces with a lint-freecloth or use the small brush provided in the Charger Case.Never use cleaning agents such as household detergents,soap, etc. for cleaning your hearing aid. It is notrecommended to rinse with water. If you need to cleanyour hearing aid intensively, ask your hearing careprofessional for advice and information on filters ordrying capsules.Chargers: Make sure that charger inserts are clean.Never use cleaning agents such as household detergents,soap, etc. for cleaning your charger.WeeklyHearing aid: Clean the earpiece with a soft, damp clothor with a special cleaning cloth for hearing aids. Therefore you do not haveto worry about getting the hearing aids exposedto a rain shower or sweat. However, Audéo V-Ris not intended to be used in water activitiesthat includes chlorinated water, soap, salt wateror other liquids with a chemical content.Humidity during operation for the ChargerCase, Mini Charger and Power Pack: : 0% to85% (non condensing).37This symbol indicates that it is important forthe user to read and take into account therelevant information in this user guide.Temperature during transportationand storage: –20 to 60 Celsius(–4 to 140 Fahrenheit).Humidity during storage: 0% to 70%, if not inuse. In very rare cases, thedome can remain in yourear canal when removingthe hearing tube from theear. In the unlikely casethat the dome does getstuck in your ear canal, it isstrongly recommended tosee a physician for saferemoval.16.1 Hazard warningsThe intended use ofhearing aids is to amplifyand transmit sound to theears and herebycompensate for impairedhearing. The hearing aids(specially programmed foreach hearing loss) mustonly be used by theintended person. Theyshould not be used by anyother person as they coulddamage hearing.Changes or modificationsto the hearing aid thatwere not explicitlyapproved by Phonak arenot permitted. Suchchanges may damage yourear or the hearing aid.Do not use the hearingaids and chargingaccessories in explosiveareas (mines or industrialareas with danger ofexplosions, oxygen richenvironments or areaswhere flammableanesthetics are handled) orwhere electronicequipment is prohibited.If you feel pain in orbehind your ear, if it isinflamed or if skin irritationand acceleratedaccumulations of earwaxoccur, please check withyour hearing careprofessional or physician.45Only authorized personnelare allowed to open thePower Pack due to possibleelectrical hazard.Do not make a wireconnection from yourhearing aid to any externalaudio sources like radioetc. That could causeinjuries on your body(electric shock).Do not cover the wholeCharger Case or MiniCharger while charging,e.g. with a cloth etc.Hearing programs in thedirectional microphonemode reduce backgroundnoises. Please be awarethat warning signals ornoises coming frombehind, e. g. cars, arepartially or entirelysuppressed.Keep the Charger Case outof reach of children andmentally challenged peopleor pets. If the dryingcapsule is swallowed,consult a physician orhospital immediately.46The following is onlyapplicable for persons withactive implantable medicaldevices (i.e. pacemakers,defibrillators, etc.): Keep the wireless hearingaid at least 15 cm(6 inches) away from theactive implant. If youexperience any interference,do not use the wirelesshearing aids and contactthe manufacturer of theactive implant. Please, notethat interference can alsobe caused by power lines,electrostatic discharge,airport metal detectors etc. Keep magnets (i.e.EasyPhone magnet, etc.)at least 15 cm (6 inches)away from the activeimplant.47This hearing aid is not forchildren below 36 months.It contains small parts thatcan cause choking, ifswallowed by children.Keep out of reach ofchildren and mentallychallenged people or pets.If swallowed, consult aphysician or hospitalimmediately.Use of this equipmentadjacent to or stacked withother equipment should beavoided because it couldresult in improperoperation. If such use isnecessary, this equipmentand the other equipmentshould be observed toverify that they areoperating normally.Use of accessories,transducers and cablesother than those specifiedor provided by themanufacturer of thisequipment could result inincreased electromagneticemissions or decreasedelectromagnetic immunityof this equipment andresult in improperoperation.48Portable RFcommunicationsequipment (includingperipherals such asantenna cables andexternal antennas) shouldbe used no closer than30 cm (12 inches) to anypart of the Audéo V-R,including cables specifiedby the manufacturer.Otherwise, degradation ofthe performance of thisequipment could result.

The USB port of thecharger is to be used forthe described purpose only.For charger, use onlyEN60950-certifiedequipment with a outputrating of 5 VDC.Min. 500 mA.Do not insert the adapterof the power supply aloneinto electrical outletsbecause this could result inan electric shock.Hearing aids should not befitted with domes / waxprotection systems whenused by clients withperforated eardrums,inflamed ear canals orotherwise exposed middleear cavities. In these cases,we recommend the use ofa custom earpiece.In the unlikely case thatany part of this productshould remain in the earcanal, it is stronglyrecommended to see amedical specialist for saferemoval.49Do not drop your hearingaid! Dropping onto a hardsurface can damage yourhearing aid.Store you hearing aid inthe charger if you are notusing it for a long periodof time.16.2 Information on product safetyProtect your hearing aidfrom heat (never leave neara window or in the car).Never use a microwave orother heating devices todry your hearing aid (dueto risk of fire or explosion).Ask your hearing careprofessional about suitabledrying methods.The hearing aids has to bedry before charging.Otherwise the chargingreliability cannot beguaranteed.Audéo V-R and Power Packcontain lithium-ionbatteries tested accordingto the UN 38.3 standardand should be shippedaccording to the rules andregulations of safeshipment of Lithium ionbatteries.The dome should bechanged every threemonths or when itbecomes stiff or brittle.This is to prevent the domefrom detaching from thetube spout during insertioninto or removal from theear.50Special medical or dentalexamination includingradiation described below,may adversely affect thecorrect functioning of yourhearing aids. Remove andkeep them outside theexamination room/areabefore undergoing: Medical or dentalexamination with X-ray(also CT scan). Medical examinations withMRI/NMRI scans, generatingmagnetic fields.Hearing aids don’t need tobe removed when passingsecurity gates (airportsetc.). If X-ray is used at all,it will be in very low doses,and will not affect thehearing aids.51Phonak hearing aids arewater resistant and notwaterproof. They aredesigned to withstandnormal activities andoccasional accidentalexposure to extremeconditions. Never immerseyour hearing aid in water!Phonak hearing aids are notspecifically designed forextended periods of watersubmersion on a continualbasis, that is worn inactivities such as swimmingor bathing. Always removeyour hearing aid beforethese activities, as thehearing aid containssensitive electronic parts.Only use approvedchargers and Power Packdescribed in this user guidefor charging Audéo V-R,otherwise the devices maybe damaged.52
