We would love to have you join our team. What abeautiful way to glorify the Lord! The Grapevine—Formation—(continued on page 4)Stump the Deacon! The first question I received this week was: “Whyis the Deacon always a minister of the Cup andnot a minister of the bread? And why does hepour a drop of water in only one cup and not the others? The simple answer is that this is a tradition that goes back tothe earliest days of the Church. The deacon was responsiblefor preparing the gifts of bread and wine. Today he still “setsthe table” and prepares the bread and the wine for thecelebration, oversees the distribution to the congregation andcleanses the sacred vessels afterward. One of the themes of our Eucharist is that we are “one bread, one body”. This is why we have started using the one largesilver bowl to bring up the bread. We also drink from onecup. Therefore the emphasis is placed on one Chalice, themain chalice. A drop of water is added to it to remind us ofthe divinity and humanity of Jesus. As he does this thedeacon prays: “By the mystery of this water and wine maywe come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbledHimself to share in our humanity.” Today it is notpractical to have only one chalice, nor is it wise to try to pourwine into several cups after it has been consecrated.I hope this answers your questions, keep them coming, this isfun!Faith Focus 2015PresentsA Four Week Series onThe Blessed Virgin MaryA Woman Clothedwith the SunEvery Thursday eveningin May Beginning May 77:00-8:30 PM upstairs in ournew Faith Formation Center

We weren’t sure if this should be doneat one Sunday Liturgy (comfort in numbers) or at eachSunday Liturgy (for convenience sake). We appreciate yourcomments and will tweak it when we know what works bestfor the most. We invite your comments and recommendations as to what works best for you.As we journeyed through Easter, about 50 parishionersand friends participated in a special program, “Don’tPut Off Dying Until the End,” put together by our par ishOn Thursday, June 4, our Charismatic Prayer Groupwhich meets on Friday evenings is hosting in our namethe Pax Christi Healing Ministry from the Diocese ofHouma-Thibodaux. This is a healing ministr y which isled by Fr. Robert-Joel Cruz of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. He will be coming with a prayer team andmusic ministers which usually number around 30 personsand the Rosary will be prayed at 6:30, asking God’s blessingon the evening, and then the Eucharist and Healing Serviceswill begin at 7:00 p.m. I will be gone on vacation June 2-10,but other priests have been invited to assist Fr. Raj withSacramental Reconciliation after the Eucharist.nurse, Stephanie Gaudin. Stephanie and other speakers puttogether a very informative program which included issuessuch as hospice care, organ donation, advance directives, estate planning, pre-funeral planning and funerals here atImmaculate Conception. We thank Stephanie for hermulti-faceted ministry here in the parish. This Saturday at the Cathedral, Bishop Muench willordain three young deacons to the ministerial priesthood– Deacons Brad Doyle, Reuben Reynolds and MatthewGraham. After the homily, we would like to invite thosewho are expecting to give birth within the coming months tocome forward. It can be the mother, mother and father, orfamilies. After the person(s) have come forward, we willbegin the Prayers of the Faithful and conclude with a specialprayer of blessing for the child in the womb, the mother andthe father/family. Then the Eucharist will continue as usualwith the preparation of gifts. This is the first time we will bedoing this on a parish basis. The Diocese has recommendedit be done twice a year, on the Feast of the Holy Trinity andthe Fourth Sunday of Advent which has the Gospel of theAs we celebrate Pentecost, the Bishop will confirm six ofour adult parishioners at the Cathedral – ColbyBlackburn, Kelly Marie Fernandez, Cory Caranna,Michelle Chatelain, Bryce Cason, and Sherry Kirby.
