ROTARY DISTRICT GRANT APPLICATIONAreas of Focus (Check all that apply, if any)oPeace and conflictprevention/resolutiono X Water and sanitationo Basic education and literacyo Disease prevention and treatmento Maternal and child healtho Economic and communitydevelopmentProject Summary: Rotary Club of Red Lodge has historically worked with the City of Red Lodgeto build, maintain, and improve access to parks in our community. Rotary Club is workingalongside the 2018 Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) camp attendees to establish a waterbottle filling station in downtown Red Lodge, Montana. The goal of this project, Refills NotLandfills, is to reduce plastic waste in Red Lodge by reducing our reliance on plastic waterbottles, and to provide the citizens and travelers of our community with clean, fresh water.Project Description: In the fall of 2018, the Recycling Center in Red Lodge experienced somemajor changes; one of which forced the center to stop accepting plastics. In an effort to reduceplastic waste in the Red Lodge community, four RYLA students worked with the Rotary Club toidentify a project that would reduce our reliance on single use plastics. Installing a water bottlefilling station in downtown Red Lodge was identified as the best option. The Refills Not Landfillsproject kicked off in the fall of 2018 and students began fundraising and presenting the projectto school and community groups. Red Lodge Rotary presented the group with 200 of start-upmoney to get the project off the ground. Since then, the RYLA group has collaborated withnumerous community partners and businesses to raise money for the project. To date, theRYLA group has raised 11,958 through direct donations, in-kind donations, and by sellingreusable water bottles. We hope to complete the project by early Spring of 2020. We wereawarded at matching grant of 2500 from Rotary District 5390 with the condition that ouroriginal budget shortfall was met. Since the time of submission, our students have decided tomove the project one block north to a more suitable location which dramatically reduces ourconstruction budget (see attached, modified budget). When Rotary District 5390 releases theawarded 2500, our project budget will be balanced at 14,457.56. To date, the water stationhas been purchased and ordered with locally raised project funds. When the ground thaws, installation of the water system will begin. The project will be finished in Spring of 2020.Red Lodge Rotary members are supporting the project financially and have agreed to providelabor as needed. The RYLA group has taken the lead on the project and has worked closely withRed Lodge Rotary, City Council, Public Works Department, Garden Club, Parks, Trees, andRecreation Board, and a number of other community organizations to plan and implement thisproject.RYLA Water Bottle Filling Station 1

They have presented and promoted their projectto the Red Lodge City Council, Red Lodge Chamber of Commerce, Public Works Department,Garden Club, Carbon County Resource Council, Parks, Trees, and Recreation Board, GreenTeam, and Interact Club.
