THANKSGIVING DAY Year A, Revised Common LectionaryHealing of the Ten Lepers, JESUS MAFA, Cameroon, 1973.Deuteronomy 8:7-18For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land,a land with flowing streams, with springs andunderground waters welling up in valleys and hills, aland of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees andpomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, a landwhere you may eat bread without scarcity, where youwill lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron and fromwhose hills you may mine copper. You shall eat your filland bless the LORD your God for the good land that hehas given you. Take care that you do not forget theLORD your God, by failing to keep his commandments, his ordinances, and his statutes, which I amcommanding you today. When you have eaten your filland have built fine houses and live in them, and whenyour herds and flocks have multiplied, and your silverand gold is multiplied, and all that you have ismultiplied, then do not exalt yourself, forgetting theLORD your God, who brought you out of the land ofEgypt, out of the house of slavery, who led you throughthe great and terrible wilderness, an arid wastelandwith poisonous snakes and scorpions. He made waterflow for you from flint rock, and fed you in thewilderness with manna that your ancestors did notknow, to humble you and to test you, and in the end todo you good. Do not say to yourself, "My power and themight of my own hand have gotten me this wealth." Butremember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives youpower to get wealth, so that he may confirm hiscovenant that he swore to your ancestors, as he isdoing today.Psalm 65 Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion; and to youshall vows be performed, O you who answer prayer! To you all flesh shallcome. When deeds of iniquity overwhelm us, youforgive our transgressions. Happy are those whom you choose and bringnear to live in your courts. We shall be satisfiedwith the goodness of your house, your holytemple. By awesome deeds you answer us withdeliverance, O God of our salvation; you are thehope of all the ends of the earth and of thefarthest seas. By your strength you established themountains; you are girded with might. You silence the roaring of the seas, the roaringof their waves, the tumult of the peoples. Those who live at earth's farthest bounds areawed by your signs; you make the gateways ofthe morning and the evening shout for joy. You visit the earth and water it, you greatlyenrich it; the river of God is full of water; youprovide the people with grain, for so you haveprepared it. You water its furrows abundantly, settling itsridges, softening it with showers, and blessingits growth. You crown the year with your bounty; yourwagon tracks overflow with richness. The pastures of the wilderness overflow, thehills gird themselves with joy, the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, thevalleys deck themselves with grain, they shoutand sing together for joy.2 Corinthians 9:6-15The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will alsoreap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully willalso reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you havemade up your mind, not reluctantly or undercompulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God isable to provide you with every blessing in abundance,so that by always having enough of everything, you mayshare abundantly in every good work. As it is written,"He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; hisrighteousness endures forever." He who supplies seedto the sower and bread for food will supply and multiplyyour seed for sowing and increase the harvest of yourrighteousness. You will be enriched in every way foryour great generosity, which will produce thanksgivingto God through us; for the rendering of this ministry notonly supplies the needs of the saints but also overflowswith many thanksgivings to God. Through the testing ofthis ministry you glorify God by your obedience to theconfession of the gospel of Christ and by the generosityof your sharing with them and with all others, while theylong for you and pray for you because of the surpassing

grace of God that he has given you. Thanks be to Godfor his indescribable gift!Luke 17:11-19On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through theregion between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered avillage, ten lepers approached him. Keeping theirdistance, they called out, saying, "Jesus, Master, havemercy on us!" When he saw them, he said to them, "Goand show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he sawthat he was healed, turned back, praising God with aloud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus' feet andthanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesusasked, "Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return andgive praise to God except this foreigner?" Then he saidto him, "Get up and go on your way; your faith has madeyou well."This resource is an offering from The Vanderbilt Divinity Library at:https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu.
