William James O’Neill, Sr., 78, of Beaumont, died Monday, September18, 2017. He was born on February 8, 1939, to Hilda Wolston and JohnPatrick O’Neill.William is survived by his wife, Bertha O’Neill of Beaumont; sons,William James O’Neill, Jr. and his wife, Gina, of Port Neches; and EdmondMark O’Neill of Beaumont; brother, Michael Joseph O’Neill of Caplen;grandsons, Jordan William O’Neill and Justin Lee O’Neill; grandchildrenof the heart, Jay and Kassie Forster; and great-granddaughter, CollinsShae O’Neill.He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John PatrickO’Neill and Paul Thomas O’Neill.3

On February 8, 1939, WilliamJames O’Neill was born to HildaWolston and John PatrickO’Neill. He was the third of fourboys. Bill, as he liked to be called,grew up in Beaumont, Texas.After graduating from BeaumontHigh School in 1957, Bill joinedthe Air Force and learned to fly.While in the Air Force his firstmarriage produced a son, Billy, onNovember 10, 1964.After leaving the Air Force, Billwent to work managing the Jefferson Theatre in Downtown Beaumont,Texas. It was at the Jefferson in May of 1967 where Bill met the love of hislife, Bertha Vaughan. Bill and Bertha married on September 30, 1967, andthey had another son, Mark, on July 12, 1974.After leaving the Jefferson, Bill worked for his brother, Paul, at Balboa Coand then in 1985, he opened his own construction business, W O’NeillConstruction Incorporated. Both sons worked for their father in hisconstruction business where Bill enjoyed giving all the orders and Billyand Mark did all the hopping! But Bertha was the only employee whoworked with the ”Straw boss” from the beginning to the very end.Thru the years Bill enjoyed trips in his single engine Cesna where hewould delight in frightening Bertha and the boys. He loved long tripsin one of his many RVs, taking his beloved mother-in-law, Ella, and thewhole family to places like the Hills of San Francisco, and Las Vegaswhere he loved to gamble, and that fateful trip to Florida where theynever did make it to Disney World because Billy left the VW in gearbehind the RV and the clutch burned up. Billy will never live that onedown. But of all his travels, Bill loved the beach and being with his familythe most.But we can’t end this without mentioning Bill’s biggest guiltypleasure.The Cowboys!!!! Bill loved football and he loved his Dallas7

Cowboys. There was always good food and a good time watching thegames at home or traveling to Dallas to see his team in person. One ofhis favorite memories was meeting Tony Dorsett at his brother, Paul’s,home. He kept that picture of him and Tony with him and loved showingit to everyone.William James (Bill) O’Neill was a good man, a good friend, a goodbrother, a good father and a good husband!!!!!!We will miss you Bill8
