2013 HighlightsProvidence St. Vincent Medical Foundationn Telestrokesaves livesThanks to our generous donors, Providence Brain and Spine Institute’s TelestrokeNetwork continues to lead the way in ensuring stroke patients statewide have real-timeaccess to our team of nationally recognized stroke neurologists. Under this partnershipprogram, patients, hospitals and providers throughout Oregon and southern Washingtoncan quickly get assessments and consults about stroke issues with Providence neurologyexperts. The team in 2013 earned the American Stroke Association’s Get With theGuidelines: Stroke Gold Plus award for the fourth consecutive year. Since 2010,telestroke consults have increased more than 400 percent and use of the lifesaving strokedrug tPA has increased at the same rate. The brain and spine institute, headquartered atProvidence St. Vincent Medical Center, is looking to expand telemedicine into other keyareas of treatment including multiple sclerosis, ALS and neurosurgery consults.n EasingCommunity providers and stroke patients benefit from real-timeconsults with Providence neurologists as part of the ProvidenceBrain and Spine Institute’s Telestroke Network.the way for families and childrenMy Little Waiting Room held its first summer camp in August 2013. Kids who cometo the hospital regularly got a chance to enjoy summer fun when their family or healthsituations didn’t allow for real vacations. The 115 children at camp were treated to apuppet show provided by camp teachers, arts and crafts, games with prizes, and even achance to show off their artistic skills on an indoor sidewalk. In 2013 My Little WaitingRoom, which is fully funded by donations to the foundation, served nearly 3,500patient families. 2013 HighlightsProvidence St. Vincent Medical Foundation(continued)Play Smart Youth Heart Screenings Program provided more than 2,000 freescreenings for young people (ages 12-18) in 2013. This important program, fully fundedby generous donors, is making great strides to help prevent sudden cardiac death inchildren throughout Oregon and southwest Washington.2013 saw the opening of two intensive care units at Providence St. Vincent, thanksto generous donor support. Building from the expertise of our nationally renownedneonatal care and benchmark outcomes for pediatric services, the new pediatric intensivecare unit allows Providence St. Vincent to bring care closer to home for some of ouryoungest and most vulnerable patients. The hospital’s new neuro critical care unitadvanced our neurological services and launched our journey to become a certifiedcomprehensive stroke center.
