Resettriggered via 4 to 20 mA signal makesintegrating from an existing buildingmanagement system simple.The ComfortLink platform can beexpanded further with the Service Optionwhich has all of the features of theEnergy Management option, along withan additional hand-held ComfortLinkNavigator display, remote serviceconnection port, and GFCI convenienceoutlet (60Hz only). While providingadditional information in a clear languageformat, the Navigator display can beplugged into the unit at either the controlpanel or at the remote service port,allowing the service technician to operatethe unit from where the maintenance orservice work is being performed, therebyminimizing downtime to ensure thesystem is ready for operation in theshortest amount of time. Both the EnergyManagement and Service Options can befactory-supplied or can be added in thefield at a later date as needs change.Full and hComfortLink control offer outstandingefficiencies (EER [Energy EfficiencyRatio], COP [coefficient of performance],and IPLV [integrated part load value]) inboth full (up to 10.0 EER) and part loadoperation (IPLVs up to 14.7). Increasedpart load efficiency is provided by dualindependent refrigeration circuits, suctioncut-off unloading, and return fluidtemperature compensation.2The fully integrated ComfortLink controlsystem maintains efficient control overthe compressors, unloaders, expansionvalves, and condenser fans to optimizeperformance as conditions change. TheCarrier exclusive long-stroke electronicexpansion valve (EXV) operates atreduced condensing pressures, therebyallowing the control to operate the fansdown to lower outdoor temperatures. Byutilizing valve position information, thecontrol maintains the highest possibleevaporator pressure and minimizes theexcessive superheat that conventionalthermal expansion valve (TXV) systemsrequire. With built-in dualchiller control, imaginative large tonnagesystems can be easily engineered andcontrolled with smaller, easier to handlemodules.Modulardesignallowsengineers to consider side by side, offset,or angled placement to fit the awkwardspaces that the architect sometimesleaves for mechanical systems. Or, in thecase of planned expansion, additionalcooling can be brought on-line andcontrolled from the same system.In some places facility managers mayfind that the cash flow provided bybuilding up large air cooled multi-chillerplants can easily offset any efficiencylosses when compared to large watercooled centrifugal type chilled waterplants.Quality and reliabilityTo assure long life and qualityperformance, every chiller (both 50 and60Hz) is factory run tested. Individualcomponents are also tested at manylevels to assure that only the best partsTable of contentsmake it into 30GTN,GTR chillers. Longlife and reliability are also a function ofdesign. While some manufacturers like totalk about moving parts, Carrier’sengineers recognized the potentialdangers to chiller systems caused byproblems in the power distributionsystem.
