SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIESProfessor Jean-Yves ScoazecProfessor of Pathology, Université Paris SudJean-Yves Scoazec, MD, PhD, is currently head of theDepartment of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in GustaveRoussy Cancer Campus in Villejuif, France and director of theresearch group “Molecular Analysis, Imaging and Modelling ofCancer” Unit in the same institution. Since 2011, he coordinatesthe French expert network for the pathological diagnosis ofneuroendocrine tumors (TENPath), which is supported by theFrench National Cancer Institute (INCa). He has been a memberof the ENETS Advisory Board. Professor Scoazec has authoredmore than 450 original articles and has contributed to the recentWHO classifications of gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrinetumors (2010 and 2017). His main research interests arethe cellular and molecular mechanisms of neuroendocrinetumor initiation and progression and the mechanisms ofneuroendocrine differentation in carcinomas.09:00–09:30Professor Dr Marnix G.E.H. LamProfessor of Nuclear Medicine, Chief of Nuclear Medicine,University Medical Center Utrecht, department ofRadiology and Nuclear Medicine, The Netherlands.Marnix Lam is trained as a Nuclear Medicine Physician andRadiologist. He is a staff member of the department of Radiologyand Nuclear Medicine in the UMC Utrecht since 2007. Duringhis ‘Dutch Cancer Society (KWF)’ research fellowship ontranslational and clinical research (2010 – 2014), he completeda 2-year research fellowship at Stanford University. In 2013he was appointed chief of Nuclear Medicine, and in 2016 hewas appointed professor of Nuclear Medicine. Translationalresearch in molecular medicine has been the scope of hisscientific work, with a focus on oncology. The aim is to bring newradiopharmaceuticals to clinical practice. This specifically resultedin the introduction of new oncological treatment modalities inthe Netherlands, such as bone seeking radiopharmaceuticals forthe palliation of metastatic bone pain (153Sm-EDTMP, 188ReHEDP, 223Ra-chloride), protein-receptor radionuclide therapy(177Lu-PSMA, 177Lu-HA-dotatate), and radioembolization fortreatment of hepatic malignancies (90Y microspheres and166Ho microspheres). He then undertook post graduate training in generalmedicine (MRCP) and radiology (FRCR). He is dually accreditedin radiology and nuclear medicine with specialist cross sectionaltraining in The Leeds Teaching Hospitals (CT, MRI,onco-radiologyand nuclear medicine). After completing his USMLE, he undertookfurther accredited specialist training in The University of MichiganHealth System, Ann Arbor, USA in molecular imaging, nuclearmedicine and radionuclide targeted therapies. His sub specialisedinterest is in onco-radiology, neuroendocrine tumours and HPBoncology. He is a Consultant Radiologist and Nuclear MedicinePhysician at The Christie, a role which commenced in January2007. He is the deputy clinical lead of the ENETS centre ofexcellence at The Christie and the MRT lead for NET. In April 2016,he was appointed Academy Director at The Christie. This roleincludes providing clinical leadership in delivering PET CT serviceto 70% of the contracted work load of England. He leads The Royal Free Hospital’s “EuropeanNeuroendocrine Tumour Society’s Centre of Excellence”.Furthermore, he leads scientific and clinical research programmesinto neuroendocrine tumours. In addition to being the ChairmanENETS (2014-2016), he now serves on its advisory board. He hasbeen with ENETS since its foundation in 2004. He received aLifetime Achievement Award from the UK & Ireland NeuroendocrineTumour Society (UKI NETS) in recognition of his clinical leadershipand research in the field of NETs. He is a founder and Past-Chairmanof the UK & Ireland Neuroendocrine Tumour Society. 2006-2014 hewas a member of the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI)Upper-G.I. He is based at The Christie NHSFoundation Trust within the Gastrointestinal Disease Groupand treats cancers of the pancreas, liver and biliary tract, andneuroendocrine tumours (NETs). He is the lead for The ChristieNeuroendocrine European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society(ENETS) Centre of Excellence.Professor Valle is a member of the following subgroups of theNational Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Upper GI ClinicalStudies Group: hepatobiliary, pancreatic and neuroendocrine(which he Chaired between 2013 – 2017). He is the chief of the department ofdigestive and endocrine surgery at Robert Debré UniversityHospital in Reims, France since 2011. He obtained his MD, PhDand full professor promotions in Paris (Bichat-Beaujon-Paris 7Dierot University). Since 2012, he works in collaboration withPr G. Cadiot and Pr O. Bouché (hepato-gastro-enterologists &digestive oncologists) in Reims HU and participates actively tothe management of neuroendocrine and digestive malignancies.Mr Ross CarterConsultant Pancreatic Surgeon,Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Scotland14:15–14:4510Ross Carter was born and schooled in Northern Ireland beforegraduating from the University of Glasgow in 1983. He wasappointed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1996 as Consultantpancreatico-biliary endoscopist and surgeon. He has developeda particular interest in the surgical, laparoscopic and endoscopicmanagement of pancreatic disease, particularly the minimallyinvasive management of the complications arising from severeacute pancreatitis. He is a past President of the PancreaticSociety of Great Britain and Ireland, and the Honorary Secretaryof both the British Society of Gastroenterology PancreaticSection and the PSGB&I.He has been involved in the creation of UK and Internationalguidelines for the management of pancreatic disease. He is on anumber of steering groups for National and international clinicalstudies in pancreatology. His research interests include clinicaland translational pancreatic cancer, and acute pancreatitis. Hehas authored and co authored over 100 peer reviewed articlesand 20 book chapters. He currently sits on the editorial boardof HpB and reviews research and clinical papers for numerousinternational journals. Dr Martin BuckleyConsultant Gastroenterologist,Mercy University HospitalDr Martin Buckley studied medicine at University College Corkand qualified in 1989. After an internship at the Mercy Hospital,he did his general medical training at the Federated VoluntaryHospitals Dublin. He trained in Gastroenterology in the Dublinteaching hospitals and was Lecturer in Medicine at Trinity CollegeDublin for two years before completing a therapeutic endoscopyfellowship at CHU L’Archet, Nice, France. He was appointedconsultant gastroenterologist at Tallaght Hospital, Dublinin 1998. He moved to his current position at the Mercy UniversityHospital in Cork in 2003 where he works as a therapeuticendoscopist with a special interest in ERCP/EUS/Early epithelialneoplasia. He has contributed to over 100 peer-reviewed papersand 30 textbooks.14:45–15:00Professor Kevin ConlonProfessor of Surgery and Consultant HBP Surgeon,Trinity College Dublin and Tallaght andSt Vincent’s Hospitals, DublinProfessor Kevin Conlon is Professor of Surgery at Trinity CollegeDublin, and an HPB surgeon at St. Vincent’s University Hospital,Dublin, Ireland. He is a surgical oncologist with a clinical interestin benign and malignant diseases of the upper gastrointestinaltract. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Digestive Surgeryand is on the editorial board of eight international journals. Heis a member of many cooperative groups. He is a Past-President(2011) of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain & Ireland (PSGBI).He is President-Elect of the on (E-AHPBA) and Secretary General of theInternational Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary-Association (IHPBA). Heis a member of the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons inIreland and of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain andIreland. He was appointed Research Fellow to Dr John A Mannick,Moseley Distinguished Professor of Surgery, Harvard MedicalSchool, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston in 1994.This led to an M.D. thesis awarded from the National University ofIreland in 1998.15:30–15:45Much of his higher surgical training was in the West of Scotland,where he worked under and was greatly influenced by ProfessorClem Imrie, at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. It was here that hisinterest in Pancreatic Diseases, both benign and malignant, wasessentially nurtured.In 2001, he was appointed Honorary Clinical Associate toProfessor Sheung-Tat Fan, at the Hepato-Biliary Pancreatic/Transplant Unit, Queen Mary Hospital, University of HongKong Medical Centre. He returned to Edinburgh in 2002, tobecome Clinical Fellow to Professor O. James Garden until hewas appointed Consultant Hepatobiliary Pancreatic and Liver/Pancreas Transplant Surgeon at the Freeman Hospital NewcastleUpon-Tyne, UK, in June 2003. In September 2006, he acceptedthe Upper GI/HBP Consultant position in the Mercy UniversityHospital Cork. Dr Kjell ÖbergSenior Professor, Department of Medical Sciences,Endocrine Tumorbiology, Akademiska sjukhuset,Uppsala, SwedenDr Kjell Öberg is Professor of Endocrine Oncology at the MedicalFaculty of Uppsala University. He was the former head of theDepartment of Endocrine Oncology, University Hospital, and he isa specialist in endocrinology and internal medicine. He founded theDept. of Endocrine Oncology at Uppsala University Hospital and has40 year’s experience in the field of neuroendocrine tumors. Between1986 and 1992 he was clinical associate director of the LudwigInstitute for Cancer Research. From 1998 to 2002 he was chairmanof the Department of Medical Sciences at the Medical Faculty ofUppsala University. July 2002 until June 2008 he was the Dean of theMedical Faculty. He was the chairman for the Centre of Excellenceof Endocrine Tumors and Vice chairman of the Department ofEndocrine Oncology, University Hospital, Uppsala until May 2013, atpresent time he is senior advisor at the same department. Currently,Adjunct Professor of Surgery at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, US.17:15–18:00Dr. Öberg was one of the founders and coordinator of the EuropeanNeuroendocrine Tumor Network (ENET) 1995-2000 and was pastchairman of the Nordic Neuroendocrine Tumor Group. He haspioneered the treatment of carcinoid tumor patients with interferonand somatostatin analogues and developed assays for tumormarkers such as Chromogranin A and radiological proceduresincluding specialized PET scans.In 1988 he was the first to describe a genetic deletion in multipleendocrine neoplasia Type 1 (MEN1). Dr Öberg has given many hundredsof presentations at international meetings and published more than500 papers within his research field, H-factor 67 and 14,850 citations.In addition he is the author of numerous chapters on Carcinoid tumorsin several international textbooks including William’s Textbook ofEndocrinology, Leslie de Groot’s Textbook of Endocrinology, ClinicalEndocrinology and Fordtran’s Textbook of Gastroenterology. Dr. Öbergis Editor-in Chief of World Journal of Gastroenterolgy (WJG).In 1991 Dr. Öberg received the European Interferon Research reward.In 2003 he received the award “Eminent Scientist Year 2003” bythe International Research Promotion Council (IRPC) and WorldScientist Forum and in 2004 he was awarded the European GoldMedal in Endocrinology from the English Endocrine Society. InNovember 2006 he received the Harry Boström Award Lecture atSwedish Medical Society, the University Hospital Clinical ResearchAward in 2011. In 2014 he received the Rudbeck Medallion forexcellence in research and the Life Time Achievement Award fromNorth American Neuroendocrine Society. January 2017 Dr Öbergwas awarded with The Swedish Endocrine Society Gold Medal forprominent research and clinical activities and in March 2017 hereceived Lifetime Achievement Award by European NeuroendocrineTumor Society (ENETS). In October of 2017, Lifetime Achievementfrom Asian Pacific Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (AP-NETS).Dr. Öberg is a member of the Royal Society of Sciences, member ofSwedish Society of Medical Research, Honorary member of FinnishOncology Society, Finnish Endocrine Society and Honorary memberof Spanish Neuroendocrine NET-work.
