Residential CommunitiesWe believe design has an important role in the creation of a cohesive, sustainablesociety. We aim to create safe, beautiful spaces which encourage regularencounters between members of a locality, helping to foster strong engagedcommunities. We believe the quality of public realm andpublicly accessible spaces have an impact onthe overall quality of our lives. We aim to designinclusive spaces that offer opportunity for all andencourage human interaction outside that of theusual day-to-day encounter. We are experienced in the design of ‘HomeZone’ type environments. These can helpto promote pedestrian friendly, walkableneighbourhoods which make door step play forchildren a real possibility. The considered design of communal parks andplay areas, vehicular and pedestrian networksand defensible private space all help to create apleasant, functioning community. We fully understand the functional requirementsof residential communities. We designlandscape space so the requirements of variousservice and delivery vehicles are integratedelegantly into our final landscape design.Mill Farm, Hanworth, RichmondTyson Road, Forest Hill, LewishamGrange Road, WalthamstowDavisLandscape Architecture

Podium Deck Landscapes & Roof GardensIn our urban environments roof gardens and podium deck landscapes are avaluable resource. These spaces can realise the full potential of a developmentsite by providing additional amenity space and a valuable habitat for wildlife. As a practice we are very experienced in thedetailed design of all forms of podium decklandscape build ups. We understand theopportunities and design constraints implicitin the different types of podium deck drainagesystems. The careful design of extensive and intensiveroof landscapes are critical to their successfulimplementation. We therefore work closely withother consultants throughout the design processto ensure all elements included within thepodium deck/ roof landscape are coordinated.By working closely with other consultants at anearly stage of a project, our landscape architectscan better understand the functional elementsrequired within the landscape layer. These canthen be integrated into our proposal from thestart, thus avoiding costly and poorly consideredafterthoughts.Edgware Road, Colindale, BrentYoung Street, Kensington & ChelseaSt Luke’s, Canning TownDavisLandscape Architecture

Commercial Landscape DesignThe landscape zones surrounding commercial buildings are an often overlookedopportunity. They can provide spaces for branding, a suitable setting for thebuilding and approaches suitable to the building’s function. These can beincorporated with the functional requirements of the building. As a practice we have significant experience atall stages of the design process for landscapesassociated with a wide variety of commercialtype buildings. We understand the possible functionalrequirements of external spaces associated withthese types of building. These are discussedand agreed at an early stage of the designprocess, helping to avoid abortive work at laterstages. In addition, costly and poorly integratedafterthoughts can be avoided. We are able to make suggestions on brandingopportunities within the external environment. This may be associated with signage, colour orthe placement of sculpture within the landscapezone. We are experienced in defining strategicwayfinding strategies by using a clear hierarchyof materials. This ensures the landscape islegible and a suitable sense of arrival can beprovided.Vintry & Mercer Hotel, Mansion HouseEast Village, Stratford, NewhamBrunel House, PortsmouthDavisLandscape Architecture

Play, Learning & School EnvironmentsPlay: “Engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious orpractical purpose.” Programmed and unprogrammed play spaces should beintegrated into the landscape where possible and designed to encourage andchallenge children’s imagination. With input from other consultants we are ableto use SPG ‘Providing for Children and YoungPeople’s Play and Informal Recreation’ to adviseour clients on appropriate provisions of playrequired for any given residential development. When accommodated within the public realmwe believe play spaces should be seamlesslyintegrated, not inserted as an afterthought or astand alone item. The careful selection of plant material within playspaces can provide physical structure to definethe zone and help to provide opportunities forchildren to interact directly with nature. The integration of natural elements withinplay spaces enable young children to betterunderstand the qualities of different materialsand encourages them to engage theirimagination in creative ways.Play and spatial arrangement are carefullyconsidered when designing schoolenvironments. Circulation, active and passivezones are all key to creating successful schoollandscapes.Gordon Infant School, IlfordWestbury Estate, Clapham, LambethSummit Court, Kilburn, BrentDavisLandscape Architecture

Hard Landscape & MaterialsOur intention is to design spaces which are functional, inclusive, durable andvisually pleasing. Key to this is the selection of materials which are robust, appropriate for their use and within the budget defined by our clients. As an integral part of the design of public spaceswe believe opportunities for social interactionare key to healthy communities. The provision ofopen and private seating opportunities and playare desirable to achieve this end.In public spaces we would encourage theintegration of flexible, programmable spaces. These are able to accommodate a variety ofactivities through time and have the ability tobring life and activity to the public realm.By considering the needs of the end user at theoutset of the design process we aim to createinclusive spaces which cater for the broadestspectrum of society. We intend to design in a legible, clutter freemanner. This allows for ease of movement, clearwayfinding and helps to provide an aestheticallypleasing environment. We aim to source materials that have beenproduced in an environmentally sustainablemanner. The intention is to have a minimalnegative impact on our environment, ensuringfuture generations inherit a sustainable planet.Ravenscourt House, HammersmithCrescent Lane, Clapham, LambethMaurice Wilkes Building, CambridgeDavisLandscape Architecture

Horticulture & PlantingPlants add a unique and ever changing dynamic to a landscape scheme. As theseasons pass they can change shape and colour, flower and emit fragrance. Theyprovide a sense of time in the form of a living tapestry within our landscapedesign. With a qualified horticulturist employed withinour practice we design schemes that are suitedto their local environment, are water efficientand are also able to provide habitat and foodfor wildlife.Planting may be used as a dynamic elementwithin hard landscape structures to providevisually pleasing living forms, seasonal dramaand contact with nature.Planting can also provide benefits forthe physical environment by cooling andpurifying the air, cleaning surface water runoff, attenuating noise, providing shade andstabilising banks. Our landscape architects are able to providecomprehensive maintenance plans to ensureour schemes continue to be healthy and improvewith time.Robinson Building, EssexAvenue School, Manor Park, NewhamSilver Works, Colindale, BrentDavisLandscape Architecture

Water Issues & SUDSWith climate change and the unpredictable nature of weather it is becomingincreasingly important to manage water in an intelligent and sustainable manner.Sensitively managed water run off can provide opportunities for the creation ofaquatic wildlife habitats. We understand the principles and designlimitations of the various Sustainable UrbanDrainage Systems (SUDS) which can beused for the management and collection ofsurface water run off. These may be a simpleplanted ditch or swale, permeable paving withappropriate sub base or an ornamental raingarden water feature. With our in house horticultural expertise we canintegrate appropriate plant material with a SUDSdrainage strategy to achieve an attractive, functional and wildlife friendly outcome. We understand how SUDS techniques can beapplied to achieve the desired BREEAM and/ orCode for Sustainable Homes outcome.Green, brown or blue roofs may be used toattenuate surface water run off into the drainagesystem. This has the added potential benefit ofproviding valuable wildlife habitats.Star Lane Ph1, Great Wakering, EssexStar Lane Ph 2, Great Wakering, EssexChadwell Street, IslingtonDavisLandscape Architecture

Ecology & Habitat PreservationWith the ever increasing man made pressures on the habitats of our native floraand fauna, there is now a growing awareness of the importance of preservingexisting habitats and the incorporation of measures to help offset the loss ofhabitat associated with a new development. We aim to design in a sustainable manner. Thisincludes the incorporation of design elementsthat protect and enhance our ecology andminimises the impact of development on ournatural resources.Encouraging wildlife into our external spacescan provide children with a valuable educationalresource. Working with ecologists we canadvise on strategic locations for bird, bat andbug boxes. We are able to integrate native plant specieswith ornamental varieties to provide visuallypleasing planting schemes which areecologically biodiverse and beneficial. We have a good understanding of the BREEAMand Code for Sustainable Homes process. As a consequence we are able to advise ourclients on where relevant credits are likely tobe available.Gillan Court, Grove Park, LewishamChesterford Research Park, Science VillageHarper Road, Borough, SouthwarkDavisLandscape Architecture
