AN ANALYSIS OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IN KATY PERRY’S SONG ABSTRACT Figurative language is language which employs various figures of speech. This study discusses about an analysis of figurative language in Katy Perry’s Song. The purpose of this study is to find the contextual meaning and the type of figurative language used in Katy Perry’s song. The source of the data was taken from the lyrics of Katy Perry’s song. Katy Perry’s song is classified as pop song released on 17th October 2013. The research design used in this study is descriptive qualitative research with a document or content analysis as the research type. The thesis described type of figurative language and contextual meaning from Katy Perry‟s song. From the analysis, there were nine types of figurative languages: they were personification, metaphor, simile, hyperbole, allusion, repetition, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and idiom. To support the analysis, some type of figurative language and other related references were used. There were also some related theories about figurative language used to support the analysis. Thirty six have been selected to be analyzed. There were 1 type of figurative language (Personification), 5 type of figurative language (Metaphor), 10 type of figurative language (Simile), 4 type of figurative language (Hyperbole), 3 type of figurative language (Allusion), 1 type of figurative language (Repetition), 1 type of figurative language (Alliteration), 2 type of figurative language (Onomatopoeia), and 7 type of figurative language (Idiom). Then the type of figurative language were classified and analyzed. This study is highly expected to give contribution for the reader to know about figurative language clearly. It can help the reader know contextual meaning and speak English fluently. And it can also be expected to enrich new English vocabulary used in the daily conversation. AN ANALYSIS OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IN KATY PERRY’S SONG ABSTRAK Gaya bahasa adalah bahasa yang menggunakan berbagai macam kiasan. Penelitian ini mendiskusikan tentang analisis gaya bahasa dalam lagu Katy Perry. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan makna tersirat dan tipe gaya bahasa yang digunakan dalam lagu Katy Perry. Sumber data diperoleh dari irik lagu Katy Perry. Lagu Katy Perry diklasifikasikan sebagai lagu pop yg dirilis pd 17 Oktober 2013. Desain penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan dokumen atau analisis isi sebagai tipe penelitiannya. Skripsi ini mendeskripsikan tipe dari gaya bahasa yang ditemukan dari lagu Katy Perry. Dari analisis, ada 9 tipe dari gaya bahasa, yaitu: Personifikasi, Persamaan, Metafora, Hiperbola, Alusi, Pengulangan, Pengulangan konsonan, Paronomasia, dan lagam bahasa. Ada juga beberapa teori yang berhubungan dengan gaya bahasa yang digunakan untuk mendukung analisis, 36 bentuk gaya bahasa yang telah diseleksi dan dianalisis. Ada 1 tipe gaya bahasa personifikasi, 5 tipe gaya bahasa metapora, 10 tipe gaya bahasa persamaan, 4 tipe gaya bahasa hiperbola, 3 tipe gaya bahasa alusi, 1 tipe gaya bahasa pengulangan, 1 tipe gaya bahasa pengulangan pada konsonan, 2 tipe gaya bahasa paronomasia, 7 tipe lagam bahasa. Kemudian gaya bahasa tersebut diklasifikasi dan dianalisis. Penelitian ini sangat diharapkan dapat memberikan contribusi untuk pembaca untuk mengetahui gaya bahasa dengan jelas. Ini dapat membantu pembaca berbahsa Inggris mengetahui makna tersirat dalam bahasa inggris.
