SALISBURY GLOVESManufactured for outstanding protection, comfort and long-lifeRubber Insulating gloves are among the most important articles of personal protectionfor electrical workers. Incorporating high dielectric and physical strength, flexibility anddurability, Salisbury rubber insulating gloves have earned the reputation for superiorperformance – meeting and exceeding the requirements of current ASTM D120specifications and IEC EN60903 Standards.Salisbury rubber insulating gloves aremanufactured by dipping porcelain forms intoa tank of liquefied rubber. The thin layer ofrubber which results is allowed to dry and theprocess is repeated until the requiredthickness is reached. Depending on thevoltage class of the glove, this dipping-dryingdipping cycle may need to be repeated over30 times. After the desired thickness isachieved, the gloves are allowed to dry. Oncedry, they are cut to length, the reinforcingbead is rolled, and the ASTM label andmanufacturing information is applied alongwith any additional permanent marking thatmay be requested. The gloves are cured in an autoclave under steam pressure and heat. After curing, thegloves are visually inspected. Gloves with visual imperfections are rejected. The glovesare then given a halogenation treatment (chlorination) to increase the comfort andwearability. The gloves are electrically tested following ASTM D120/IEC 903specifications. Following the electrical test, the gloves are given a final visual inspection. The gloves are then ready to be boxed and shipped.2

SALISBURY SLEEVESLINEMAN’S SLEEVESRUBBER INSULATING SLEEVES extend coverage of the arm from the cuff of rubberinsulating gloves to the shoulder; fully protecting these areas from accidental contactwith the energized conductors and equipment. Salisbury sleeves feature a reinforcingfold at the cuff. This fold is preferred over a rolled bead because it adds less bulk to thecuff and fits into the glove easier without pushing. Two different processes are used tomanufacture insulating sleeves; dipping and molding. Both meet the currentrequirements of ASTM D1051 and offer the same high level of quality and protection.ONLY SALISBURY OFFERS BOTH DIPPED AND MOLDED SLEEVESMOLDED SLEEVES aremanufactured by eitherinjection or compressionmolding methods. Theadvantage these methodsoffer is the ability toproduce sleeves of Type I orSALCOR Type II syntheticrubber. SALCOR sleevesprovide the same highquality and electricalprotection as natural rubber, with the added benefit ofbeing resistant to ozone andultraviolet radiation. SALISBURY LINEHOSE AND CONNECTORSLINEHOSE – CONVENTIONAL SYSTEMCONVENTIONAL STYLE LINE HOSE is available in orange Type II SALCOR . SALCOR remains flexible even in cold weather and it is not damaged by ozone or ultraviolet rays. Each line hose has Salisbury’s RIB-GRIP Locking System. The straight or connector endstyle is available in three sizes: 1” and 1.25” I.D. rated at 17 kV, Class 2 and 1.5” I.D.rated at 26.5 kV Class 3.STRAIGHT STYLE SALCOR HOSE is also available in 2” or 2.5” I.D. rated at Class 3.CONVENTIONAL LINE HOSE CONNECTORS are made from Type II orange SALCOR andcan be use on 1”, 1.25” or 1.5” I.D. conventional line hose. To connect 2” and 2.5” I.D.conventional line hose, use the SU System Connector.THE TIGHTEST GRIP IN THEINDUSTRYThe self-locking lip, that Salisburypatented, prevents line hose fromcoming off the conductor after aninstallation and makingadjustments, the angle ofconnection shifts, causing line hoseand covers to separate. To preventthis, Salisbury developed aningenious solution for ensuring thatany two protective devices wouldhold together yet still be easy for alineman to assemble and takeapart.RIB-GRIP construction takesadvantage of rubber’s naturaltendency to grip and tighten its gripthrough compression. By creatingcurving rib configurations slit at aspecific angle, two pieces easily sliptogether but resist coming apart. Toquickly disengage the linemanneeds only to compress the rubberon either side.RIB-GRIP Locking SystemSectional view of typical insulator cover showingarrangement of ribs. Ribs are engineer to grip the serrationson its corresponding line hose, regardless of angle.A row of serrations on both sides of the connector lien hosegrips snugly inside the large arm of insulator covers.Saw-tooth serrations on the ends of the line hose areangled to make it easy to insert, but resist coming apart.Connector end line hose with rubber ribs grasptightly and hold an adjoining length of hose.24
