C21-2Electric Heaters for Navaland Marine Applications

IntroductionThis catalog represents over 80 years of experience in electric heating. Shortlyafter our founding in 1929, heaters for Naval and Marine use were added to ourproduct line. With over 400,000 square feet devoted exclusively to designing andmanufacturing electric heaters, a separate facility dedicated to electronic controls, astaff of experienced engineers and local sales support, we are able to satisfy anymarine application – large or small, custom designed or off-the-shelf.Table of ContentsShipbuilding Applications . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1Fluid Heating Equipment . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2Vent Duct Heaters . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3MIL-SPEC Duct Heaters . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4-5Sample Specification . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6Space Heating Equipment . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .7-9Component Heating Elements . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Fluid Heating EquipmentCirculation Heaters and ControlsWith complete in-house facilities to manufacture pressure vessels, immersion heaters,sheet metal enclosures and electronic controls,INDEECO offers a complete line of heatercontrol packages for water, oil, and other fluids.Typical applications for INDEECO circulationheaters include heating lube, hydraulic, andheavy fuel oils. Circulation heaters are alsoused to provide supplementary heat for freshwater makers and jacket heaters for radardomes. Our welding shop is ASME qualified toweld per Section IX. INDEECO ASME weldingstamps: “U” (Section VIII, Division I). INDEECOcirculation heaters and remote control panelswith SCR’s have been shock tested per MIL-S901 and vibration tested per MIL-STD-167-1.From small pipe thread heaters for galley use to480 KW or larger flanged heaters for vapor compression water makers, our immersion heaterscan handle virtually any marine job. Special lubeoil heaters with hermetic seals and liquid-proofoutlet boxes are qualified per MIL-H-24299.Water purification heaters are qualified perMIL-H-22577 and MIL-S-16196D for vapor compression distillers. Hydraulic fluid heaters havebeen shock tested per MIL-S-901 and vibrationtested per MIL-STD-167-1. Pipe thread immersion heaters are listed by UL (UnderwritersLaboratories) per Standard 499, File #E23541and by CSA (Canadian Standard Association)per Standard Class 2871, Report #LR11895-35.Copper, stainless steel, Incoloy, Copper/Nickeland Monel sheathed heaters are available,along with liquid-proof and explosion-proof terminal boxes and hermetic seals.Flanged Immersion HeaterCirculationHeater2Immersion HeatersRemote Control Panelwith SCR’sFlanged Immersion Heater

Vent Duct HeatersDuct HeatersMarine Duct HeatersAs long time leaders in this field, we fabricateall essential components right through tofinal assembly and testing. We make our ownfinned tubular elements, weld and fabricate thesheet metal frames and manufacture electroniccontrols.Used on commercial and non-combat Navalvessels, these heaters are available with eitherside or bottom mounted terminal boxes housing control and safety components. They meetU.S. Coast Guard requirements per 46CFR111.87, are listed by UL per Standard 1996,File #E23192, and are ABS (American Bureauof Shipping) approved. Captive nuts may befurnished in factory-provided mounting holesto simplify installation. Built-in thermal cutouts, magnetic contactors, airflow switch, and controltransformer are standard. Our wide range ofoptional controls includes pilot lights, SCR’s, andelectronic step controls.MIL-SPEC Duct HeatersFully qualified per MIL-H-22594A and MIL-PRF22594B (all sizes), these heaters are madewith Monel 400 finned tubular elements withhermetic terminal end seals and stainless steelframes, qualifying them for standard or nonmagnetic installations and making them imperviousto salt water corrosion. They have been shocktested per MIL-S-901 and vibration tested perMIL-STD-167-1. Where required, they may bequalified for low magnetic permeability per MILI-17214.
