ANGLICARE SA KIDS CLUB AND HIPPYKids ClubOver Term One children and families looked at thewonderful world of colour, the children explored colourthrough craft, cooking and science experiments.Throughout the term, the children and their familiesenjoyed activities like Sugar Crystal Sticks, experimentsare always fun, but even more so when it involvescooking! The activity involved the children using water, food colouring and sugar. The children all took turnscounting the food colouring drops into their container, then staff poured sugar water into the children’scontainer and the children mixed the colour into thesugar water. The children pegged the skewers andplaced them in the container balancing them on a popstick. The children were very enthusiastic to see whathappened over the next few days when the sugar sticksgrew.Kids Club celebrated Harmony Day with a splash ofcolour. Staff talked with the children about what theyknow and what they think Harmony Day means. Thechildren talked about everybody being nice to oneanother no matter how they look or where they are from, understanding that everybody has their own story andbackground. To celebrate in Kids Club, we talked aboutare differences and how we all belong, we alsocontinued our art work for reconciliation week with thechildren placing coloured hand prints on the poster. The children that attended over the term where invited tocome to the School Holiday program. Over the twoweeks the children made amazing Tie Dye with T-shirts,pillow cases and hats. On another day we explored StKilda adventure playground. Term three Kids Club willbe exploring ‘The World’.PAGE 3Hippy Elizabeth - Eva’s ZooHIPPY Elizabeth has had an amazing term with childrenwho have started the age 4 program being exposed to lotsof new learning while having a lot of fun along the way.One of the more popular activities has been “The Zoo”where children are able to create their own zooenvironment by constructing enclosures and animals out ofpaper and cardboard. While building the zoo children arepracticing skills like cutting, pasting and drawing while alsochatting to their parents about what they are creatingbuilds their vocabulary and they are able to learn newnaming words (nouns).Eva is one of our HIPPY Elizabeth children that reallyenjoyed creating her own zoo for her many animals. It wasa whole family effort with Mum, Dad and even Eva’syounger sister Layla working together to produce thismasterpiece. While they were all working together they talked aboutwhat each animal would eat and what colour they wouldbe. They also had a conversation about what animals theysaw when they visited Gorge Wildlife Park earlier in theyear. Mum said “I was surprised when we did this activityhow much Eva knew about animals and the zoo. Evatalked about her zoo needing dirt and rocks and even astream of water to stop tigers getting too close to thefence”.HIPPY is a great way for the whole family to spend timetogether learning new things and having fun.
