Spring 2020Celebrate the Art of Chic at Mad Hatters April 16 Was Cancelled32nd Year Mad Hattersbenefiting the Women’sCouncil of the DallasArboretum and BotanicalGarden and A Woman’sGarden cancelled.The Womens Council of the DallasArboretum and Botannical Gardensis deeply saddened by the currentCoronavirus Pandemic and we offerour well wishes to all during thisfearful time. In light of the situation,we are redirecting our yearlong hardwork to meet our end goal of raisingmoney for A Woman’s Garden andcancelling Mad Hatter’s Tea 2020The Art of Chic.While we all may not be able toattend this year’s event and enjoyeach other’s company due to theCoronavirus, we can still cometogether as a group with a purposeto support the Women’s Council ofthe Dallas Arboretum and BotanicalGarden and our beloved A Woman’sGarden. In this anxious time ofuncertainty and darkness, it isalways valuable to find the beautyin life, such as nature offers, to keepour spirits up and to encourage joyin others. A glorious garden can alsooffer comfort and peace in times ofdistress. Lifted hearts are healinghearts. With these thoughts in mind,we thank you so very much for yourenthusiastic support of the MadHatter’s Tea. It has been the hallmarkevent of the WCDABG for manyEmpress Gilbert, Patti Flowers, Mad Hatters Chairman; Venise Stuart, Women’sCouncil President; Joni Krieg; and Regina Bruce.years. Please keep these memoriesalive until we see you again at nextyear’s event. We will get through allof this together until we can tip toethrough the tulips again.WCDABG Annual MeetingThe WCDABG Annual Meetingscheduled for May 19 has beencanceled due to the currentCOVID-19 pandemic. Your healthand that of your family is our upmostconcern. We want to honor yourconcerns.The speaker for the day would havebeen Dallasite founder of EarthXTrammell S. Crow. WOMEN’S COUNCIL SpringPresident’s LetterThank you all so much for your support of the Women’s Council of the Dallas Arboretum andour wonderful events this year! This has been a year of education, renewal, and opportunitiesfor friendship with fellow Women’s Council members. We celebrated our very own BarbaraBigham with awarding her with the Founders Award at a beautiful winter holiday generalmeeting and we learned about architectural landscaping from Tary Arterburn, Studio OutsideLandscape Architects at our fall general meeting. Trammell S. Crow, founder of EarthX, hadplanned to speak to us at the May Annual Meeting regarding our earth, our planet.Our Writer’s Garden Symposium focused on Southern Style as we heard from renown interior designer and author BunnyWilliams, and co-founder and CEO of Garden & Gun, Rebecca Darwin, who both shared their southern roots, theirsouthern garden design and their passion of strong southern women.As we were gearing up for the biggest event of the year, a global pandemic we’ve never seen before put our party hats andstyle show aside. The Art of Chic became the Art of Chaos. We weren’t able to hold this event, but want to thank thosethat continued their support. We will tip toe through the tulips as soon as we are capable of doing so - hopefully, in the verynear future.With the fun and exciting start of the year, we ended the year in a world-wide crisis. We will maintain our garden and we willbe strong in our endeavors to keep A Woman’s Garden as beautiful as ever. I
