ECD-401Combination Louver/DamperDrainable BladeApplication and DesignECD-401 is a combination louver/damper designed to protect airintake and exhaust openings in building exterior walls that, at times, require tight air shut off. Design incorporates a drainable head member, drainable stationary blades and operable blades with exposed bladelinkage. When the operable blades are open, airflow is permittedthrough the louver, when the blades are closed, a tight seal is createdto prevent the passage of air. The ECD-401 is an extremely efficientlouver with AMCA LICENSED PERFORMANCE DATA enablingdesigners to select and apply with confidence.Standard ConstructionFrame Heavy gauge extruded 6063-T5 aluminum,4 in. x 0.081 in. nominal wall thicknessBlades Drainable design, heavy gauge extruded6063-T5 aluminum, 0.081 in. nominal wall thickness, positioned at 37º and 45º angles on approximately4 in. centersSeals Dual-durometer extruded vinyl blade and jamb sealsTemperatureRestrictions (-20º F) - ( 180ºF)Linkage Exposed on-blade linkageConstruction Mechanically fastenedBirdscreen 3/4 in. x 0.051 in. flattened expanded aluminum inremovable frame, inside mount (rear)Finish MillMinimum Size 12 in. See louver selectioninformation. The AMCA Water Penetration Test provides a method for comparingvarious louver models and designs as to their efficiency in resistingthe penetration of rainfall under specific laboratory test conditions. Thebeginning point of water penetration is defined as that velocity where thewater penetration curve projects through .01 oz. of water (penetration)per sq. ft. of louver free area. *The beginning point of waterpenetration for Model ECD-401 is 1018 fpm free area velocity. These perfor mance ratings do not guarantee a louver to be weather proof or stormproof and should be used in combination with other factorsincluding good engineering judgement in selecting louvers.

INSTALLATION DETAILSECD-401Combination Louver/DamperExtruded AluminumMaximum Size and Installation InformationThe maximum single section size for the ECD-401 is 120 in. W x 84 in. H or 84 in. W x 120 in. H (70 sq. ft). Larger openings requirefield assembly of multiple louver sections to make up the overall opening size. Individual louver sections are designed to withstanda 25 PSF wind load (please consult Greenheck if the louvers must withstand higher wind-loads). Structural reinforcing membersmay be required to adequately support and install multiple louver sections within a large opening. Structural reinforcing membersalong with any associated installation hardware is not provided by Greenheck unless indicated otherwise by Greenheck. Optionsand accessories including, but not limited to, screens, filter racks, louver doors, and blank off panels are not subject to structuralanalysis unless indicated otherwise by Greenheck. Additional information on louver installation may be found in AMCA Publication#501, Louver Application Manual.Minimum Single Section Size12 in. W x 12 in. HMaximum Single Section Size70 sq. ft.

A number of investigators have evaluated design features associated with louver separators. These design features include the louver angle, louver length, louver spacing, louver overlap, scavenge flow rate, and Reynolds number. Past studies show effects of these design parameters on pressure losses and particle separation.

The electrical faults were the result of a damper blade that was loose within the isophase bus ductwork, creating arcing between the bus, damper blade, and duct. The loose damper blade is attributed to damper failure based on the determination that the operational isophase bus duct airflow rate exceeded the design flow rate for the backdraft

Used to stop or start vertical louver movement and set the desired left/right air flow direction. The vertical louver changes 6 degree in angle for each press.

This project makes use of a mass-spring-damper model. A mass-spring-damper system describes a mass that is connected to both a spring and a viscous damper. The total amount of force applied to the mass is thus the sum of the force applied by the spring and the force applied by the damper. The spring force can be calculated as !! !"
