It showcases God’scharacter of love in response to Satan’s lies. Satan says that selfserving disobedience brings freedom, while claiming that God isselfish and God’s law is flawed. God exposes Satan’s lies inGenesis (3) then through the prophets Ezekiel (28) and Isaiah (14).God needed, however, to reveal more details about His love.He did this in the Old Testament sanctuary which is a model of theheavenly sanctuary. Every sanctuary item represents a symbolicpicture of Jesus’ love, fulfilled during His earthly ministry. Jesuslived God’s covenant law of love found in the ark of the covenant.His prayers, like the altar of incense, ascended to God for us. Likethe lampstand, the Holy Spirit, through Him, illuminated the world!Jesus is the bread of life found on the bread table. He is thesanctuary door by which we access God. At the altar of sacrificeJesus is the Lamb who takes away sin. The laver of water, likebaptism, represents His death and resurrection. As our living HighPriest in heaven’s sanctuary, He empowers us to overcome sin.Some Christians want to believe faith halts at their justification orconversion, yet faith is dynamic, it follows the living Christ. Livingfaith not only justifies but continues transforming our lives to reflectJesus‘ character of love.Jesus calls us to follow His example. We come to God throughJesus (the door). We give Him our lives as living sacrifices (thealtar of sacrifice), and our baptism testifies that we have died andresurrected to newness of life (the laver) in Jesus. We learn byfaith to live by God’s Word (the bread table) as the Holy Spiritteaches us and enables our witness (the lampstand) of God’s love.Continued on page 71

President’s Perspective“Unity in Christ”David BolducIn Matt. 22:37-39, Jesus defined the universal principleof Love: As believers in Christ, we are to love God first, andbecause of our love for God, love our fellowman.When we look at the ultimate sacrifice for all of mankind in Jesushanging on the cross, we realize our own sinfulness.There is no finger-pointing at the foot of the cross; we are allequally guilty. Yet, God did not send His Son to condemn us IN oursins; Jesus came to save us FROM our sins. God manifestedHimself in Christ to open a window so that we could view Hismatchless love.Before His arrest, Christ's last prayer in the seventeenth chapterof John uses many key words like believe, eternal life, give, glorifyand sanctify. John frequently used those words throughout Hisgospel. Each word has an element of trust associated with it.Christ's words are true and trustworthy just like the principlestaught in the stories of the Old Testament. Consider Noah, Job,Abraham, Moses, and Daniel. All of those men came to a point intheir lives where they had to put their full trust in God alone.This is a glimpse of the unity that God wants each one of us topossess, so that we are solely depending on Him, not the pastor, orthe elder, or the person on STR.Each day the sun passes over our heads. Who determined that?God did. All of creation benefits from the sun and in turn creationbenefits creation. Our relationship with God is first a blessing to usand then, in turn, a blessing to those around us.When Jesus prayed His heartfelt prayer in John 17, He waspraying for ALL of His disciples including those who would believetheir testimony.Each chapter in John's Gospel has a story of faith starting withJohn the Baptist and some disciples, then His mother, nextNicodemus, then the Samaritan woman and on and on.Each person had a few moments where they looked Jesus in theeye and made a life-changing decision.(Continued on page 6)2

Unity in Christ (Continued from page 2)Their testimonies have changed millions and millions of lives,and He is still changing lives todayThe cornerstone of John 17 is Jesus' relationship with HisFather and what the Holy Spirit would soon do. It is hard tofathom that chapters 14-20 take place in less than 24 hours.Jesus wasn't exaggerating when He said, “The hour has come”referring to His almost complete earthly ministry.He knew He would be dead in a rich man's tomb in less than24 hours. But that wasn't the subject of His prayer. He was morefocused on His disciples than a mother is of her newborn child.His prayer was for His disciples to have the same relationshipwith His Father as He had and for His disciples to have arelationship with each other as He had with them individually.In general, there are many parallels in John 17 verses 1-12with John chapters 1-13, John 17 verses 13-26 also track alongwith John chapters 14-21.We would do well to spend more time studying theseventeenth chapter of John.To be continued.Grow with Strong Tower RadioPraise God, He opens the way!
