ABBAFATHERRE A D I N G G O D’ S N AMEAnd because you are sons [and daughters], God has sent forth theSpirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”GAL ATIANS 4 :6italics added for clarif icationRE F L ECTI N G O N GOD’ S N AMEHave you ever thought about God as a daddy? It is truly one of the most endearing terms wecould call Him! While in America children call their fathers ‘daddy,’ in the Middle East, childrencall their fathers ‘Abba.’ It is not disrespectful to speak to God that way. In fact, calling God yourAbba—your daddy—shows that you have an affectionate and intimate relationship with Him.To God, each one of us is His creation. But if you have received Christ as your Savior, you arenot just God’s creation, you are God’s child! As said in the verse above, God sent His Spirit intoour hearts crying out this name. When the Holy Spirit of God comes into you, He gives yousuch a relationship with the One who has adopted you that you can call Him Abba, Father. Asa son or daughter of God, you have been adopted into the family of God and have the privilegeof calling Him your Father, your daddy, your Abba?RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEOne of the most powerful things we can do is to pray to God using His name. Journal a prayercalling God your Abba Father. Jesus called God “Our Father” in Matthew 6:9, and we canmodel His prayers in our own. Ask God to show you what a loving father looks like. Thank Himfor loving you as His child and adopting you into His family.RE S P O N D I N G TO G OD’ S N AMEN OTE SWhen children are adopted, it can take a while for them to truly look at their new parents astheir mothers and fathers. Do you have trouble seeing God as your Father? He has willinglyadopted you and loves you as His son or daughter. Do you believe that? Write down a time youremember seeing God as a loving Father.1R EL ATED S C R IPTU R EMark 14:36Romans 8:15

AL PHA AN D OMEGAT HE BEGINNING AND THE ENDRE A D I N G G O D’ S N AME“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says theLord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”REVEL ATION 1:8R EL ATED S C R IPTU R ERE F L ECTI N G O N GOD’ S N AMEWe are such a small piece of the beginning and the end. We don’t hold the capacity toremember every detail from last week, let alone know everything from the beginning of timeto the end. That is God’s realm of expertise, not ours. God says He is the Alpha and the Omega. Those are the first and last letters of the Greek Alphabet. God is saying, “I am A and Z. I am thebeginning and the end. I am the first ray of hope in the book of Genesis and the last warningin the book of Revelation. It’s all about Me.” What a comfort it is to know that God existsoutside of time and is in control of all things! And who is our only hope from the beginning tothe end? Jesus Christ. Jesus was the beginning as the Word of God, and He is the final Wordfor all eternity.RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEBecause God is the beginning and the end, that means He has full control over the past, thepresent, and the future. Is your heart chained by the things of the past? Is your view of thepresent darkened by the burdens of life? Do you look to the future with dread and anxiety?Journal a prayer to the Alpha and the Omega. Surrender the things of the past, present, andfuture to the One who holds it all in His hands. Find your hope in the only One who can saveyou—redeeming your past, renewing your present, and restoring your future.RE S P O N D I N G TO G OD’ S N AMEN OTE SWhen you pray, is it all about you or all about God? When you read God’s Word, is your focuson Him or on yourself? Sometimes we forget in our prayers that everything is about God.We forget that He was and is and is to come. Instead, we fill our prayers with requests andcomplaints about how the world is affecting us. Take some time to marvel at who God is. Itis impossible to even grasp how everlasting He is, but we can sure praise Him for it—evenwhen we don’t understand! He has not just existed from the beginning to the end. He is theBeginning and the End. Write down how you feel about this characteristic of God.2John 1:1Revelation 1:11Revelation 21:6Revelation 22:13

AT T I YQ YO U MT HE ANCIENT OF DAYSRE A D I N G G O D’ S N AMERemember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, andthere is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times thingsthat are not yet done, saying “My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure.”ISAIAH 46:9-10R EL ATED S C R IPTU R EDaniel 7:9, 13-14RE F L ECTI N G O N GOD’ S N AMEOnly God can tell “in ancient times” the things that are not yet done. When reading this name, the Ancient of Days, God is not referring to Himself as old or aged. If people are called ancient,it can be assumed that they are out of touch with current times. But this is not so with God!He is the Ancient One who can foresee things that haven’t even happened yet! God is involvedwith all stages of time at once! Just as it says in Revelation 1:8, God “was and is and is to come!”We are foolish to think we can know the future. Only God is the Ancient of Days. Knowing that,we have a choice to make. Will we give God control over our future? Or continue trying to beour own “Ancient of Days?”RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEWrite down a prayer focusing on the eternal nature of God. Ask Him to help you trust Him.Praise Him that He goes before you and sees things that have not yet occurred. Release theweight of your future to Him and commit to trusting in Him.RE S P O N D I N G TO G OD’ S N AMEN OTE SDaniel 7:14 says that God, as the Ancient of Days, has a dominion that is everlasting and willnot pass away or be destroyed. God will forever be on the throne. Will you surrender to beone of His subjects? Because God existed before the beginning of time, He has authority overall things and all people. This includes everything in the future that only He can see. Are youtrying to control your future? Give it over to the Ancient of Days. Make a list of the things of thefuture that are stressing you out or weighing you down. Ask God to help you trust Him withthem.3Revelation 1:8

CH RI STO ST HE ANOINTED ONERE A D I N G G O D’ S N AMEBy this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confessesthat Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God.1 JOHN 4 :2R EL ATED S C R IPTU R ERE F L ECTI N G O N GOD’ S N AMEJesus Christ is fully man and fully Messiah at the same time. Jesus is His human name, as Heis God in the flesh. Christ is His divine title, which means “Messiah—Anointed One.” To anointsomeone is to choose him for a specific purpose on behalf of someone or something. JesusChrist, the Messiah, was chosen to take our humanity upon Himself and to die for our sins.God anointed Jesus Christ to lead us and to model a relationship with the Father for us. Godanointed Him on our behalf—not only to be our Savior, our Great High Priest, our Prince ofPeace, our Bread of Life, but also to be our Lord. Do you believe that Jesus Christ is Lord? Evenif you believe that, have you made Him your Lord? Jesus Christ did not come down to Earthand die on the Cross just to be remembered as some storybook character. His anointing waspowerful, purposeful, and personal. He came down to Earth as our Messiah—to rescue us ina way that only He can, redeem us through the power of His spotless blood, and restore us toGod for eternity! He is not just a teacher or a prophet. He is the Resurrected King! Jesus Christis still the Anointed One. And He wants to lead you personally through a relationship with Him.RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEJournal a prayer inviting Christ, the Anointed One, to be your Lord. Whether or not you havealready made a decision to be saved, you have the choice every day to be the lord over yourown life or to surrender the reins to Christ. No one can make the decision but you. Today is anopportunity to let Christ be your Lord.RE S P O N D I N G TO G OD’ S N AMEN OTE SThere’s only one question you should ask after receiving Christ as your Lord and Savior: “Lord, what would You have me to do?” Prayerfully seek the Lord’s will for your life and respond inobedience! Write down what God is calling you to do at this point in your life. Romans 12:1-2says to “present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonableservice. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of yourmind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” God’s willis good, acceptable, and perfect. Learning this starts with surrendering yourself and allowingGod to transform you. Let Christ be your Lord.4Luke 2:11Luke 9:20John 4:42John 6:69John 11:27John 20:31Acts 5:42Romans 8:391 Corinthians 1:302 Corinthians 5:17-20Galatians 6:14Philippians 2:5-11Philippians 3:7-9Colossians 3:1-41 Timothy 1:15-161 Timothy 2:5Hebrews 13:81 Peter 3:181 John 5:20

For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior ”Psalm 139:13-18ISAIAH 43:1-3BEphesians 2:10RE F L ECTI N G O N GOD’ S N AMERead back over those verses again. Slowly. Take in all of what God says about His actionstoward you: created, formed, redeemed, called you by name, and will be with you. Wow!Sometimes, when I think about how big the Earth is, and the galaxies beyond it, I feel smalland insignificant. Surely, God doesn’t have the time of day to pay attention to me! He hasplenty of other things to worry about! But this passage prompts me to think otherwise.God chose to create you and me. He intricately detailed the DNA that makes up ourindividuality. As it says in Psalm 139, you were “fearfully and wonderfully made.” You are God’s“workmanship” (Ephesians 2:10)—His masterpiece! You were not an accident or a few carelesspaint strokes across a canvas. You were deliberately created by God to be loved by Him and ledby Him. God is saying in Isaiah 43, I made you, I saved you, and I am going to take care of you.God made you for a purpose and He’s going to take care of you. Even when sin marred God’soriginal creation, He did not give up on us! Isn’t that amazing? God is not finished with youyet! As long as you have breath in your lungs, you can thank God for creating you!RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEWrite down a prayer to El Chuwl, the God Who Gave You Life. God does not just see you as Hiscreation He knows you and wants to take care of you. You are not praying to a stranger. Youare praying to the One who put breath into your lungs and put purpose into your life. What doyou want to tell Him today? Talk to Him. He knows you better than anyone else.RE S P O N D I N G TO G OD’ S N AMEN OTE SWhat does it mean to you that you are fearfully and wonderfully made? Do you feel like youhave no purpose? God does not make mistakes, so you are alive for a reason—God wants touse you! Do not despise your life or wish it away. God does not see you as unnecessary, butessential. You are a wonderful part of His creation! Write down ways you can glorify God as apart of His creation.5

EL DEAHT HE GOD OF KNOWLEDGERE A D I N G G O D’ S N AMETalk no more so very proudly. Let no arrogance come from your mouth. Forthe LORD is the God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed.1 SAMUEL 2:3R EL ATED S C R IPTU R ERE F L ECTI N G O N GOD’ S N AMEGod is omniscient—He knows everything. Have you ever been called a know-it-all? Even if youknew all there was to know about this world, your capacity for knowledge would still not evencome close to what God knows. God sees everything from beginning to end for eternity—allat one time. He cannot learn anything and nothing takes Him by surprise. Not only does Godknow everything that is going to happen, but He knows everything that is going to happen toyou. He is just as knowledgeable about you, your thoughts, your desires, and your plans as Heis about how many stars paint the sky and how many blades of grass cover the ground. In fact,God does not expect us to know everything like He does. God is omniscient, but we are not!And what a comfort that is that we have no pressure or power to be omniscient like God!RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEWe don’t have to know everything or understand God’s ways in order to follow Him. Butit is our responsibility to put our trust in Him. Write a prayer to your El Deah, the God ofKnowledge. Praise Him for His everlasting depths of knowledge and take comfort in the factthat you cannot ask Him anything that He does not already know the answer to. You cannotsurprise God, so bring your thoughts and questions before Him! Put your trust in the God ofKnowledge.RE S P O N D I N G TO G OD’ S N AMEN OTE SWhy is it so hard for us to accept how little we know? We so desperately want to understandwhy things happen and what will come next. But if we understood everything that happenedor knew all things to come, what reasons would we have to trust God and depend on Him inprayer? Romans 11:34 says, “For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has becomeHis counselor?” Sometimes, our prayers reflect such a desire to understand God’s ways thatthey become demanding or selfish. It is not our place to know what God knows. We shouldnot try to counsel the Lord on what He should reveal to us. Instead, we have the choice to trustEl Deah with everything. Whether or not He gives us understanding, we can trust that ouromniscient God is in control. Write this down: “I choose to trust in God, even with the things Ido not know or understand.” Put this reminder in a place you can see it often.6Romans 11:33-361 Corinthians 1:18-31

E L E LYO NT HE GOD MOST HIGHRE A D I N G G O D’ S N AMEThat they may know that You, whose name alone is the LORD,are the Most High over all the Earth.PSALM 83:18R EL ATED S C R IPTU R ERE F L ECTI N G O N GOD’ S N AMEEl Elyon speaks of God’s supremacy. He is the Most High. He is the One who is above all. ElElyon is translated to mean the strongest of the strong and the highest of the high. It meansthat God is the possessor of Heaven and Earth. He owns everything and is above everything.Isn’t that amazing? There is nothing on this Earth or beyond it that God does not have powerover or possession of. You cannot lose when you have the God Most High on your side. Nowonder we owe God everything—He is El Elyon! And so it is with the Lord Jesus. He is also thepossessor of Heaven and Earth. Colossians 1:16-17 says, “For by Him all things were created thatare in Heaven and that are on Earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions orprincipalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before allthings, and in Him all things consist.” You will never find better security than in your El Elyon. He is the God Most High.RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEDo you doubt the power of the God Most High? Have you attempted to place yourself as rulerover your life? Repent and humble yourself before El Elyon. Write out a prayer of repentanceand surrender yourself to be ruled by the God who is above all things.RE S P O N D I N G TO G OD’ S N AMEN OTE STake a moment to praise God for His supremacy. Praise Him that He is so powerful and yetdoes not abuse that power. God is a loving Master, who not only rules us but also cares for us!God is King; He adores His people! Worthy is God Most High to be praised!7Genesis 14:20Psalm 47:2Psalm 61:2Psalm 92:1

E L O L AMT HE EVERL ASTING GODRE A D I N G G O D’ S N AMELord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountainswere brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.PSALM 90:1-2R EL ATED S C R IPTU R EPsalm 93:2RE F L ECTI N G O N GOD’ S N AMEWhat a wonderful thing to know that in a changing world God does not change! The onlyOne we can count on to be everlasting is God. In Isaiah 26:3-5, He is called the “EverlastingStrength,” otherwise known as the ‘Rock of Ages.' Only on this Rock should we build ourfoundation. We will never be able to find constancy or strength in the world, because it isalways changing. The only thing consistent about humanity is how inconsistent we are! ButGod—El Olam—does not change! God is not altered by time! God’s strength and consistencynever waver. Isaiah 40:28 says, “The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of theEarth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.” God’s love for you willnever change. God’s promises to you will remain forever. You can draw your strength from ElOlam, because He is who He says He is and He’ll do what He says He’ll do! He is the Lord fromeverlasting to everlasting.RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEJournal a prayer to El Olam. Pray that His everlasting nature would bring comfort and strengthinto your life. Ask Him to reveal more of Himself as El Olam to you this week.RE S P O N D I N G TO G OD’ S N AMEN OTE SIt is profitless to seek strength from something inconsistent or temporary. The Everlasting Godis abundantly yours! He is the King of the Ages and knows no surprises. Build your foundationon the One who is eternal and unchanging. While our problems are temporary, our God—ourEl Olam—is eternal! God’s Word says “Those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength;they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walkand not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). Are you tired? Are you weary? Do you lack the strength to glorifythe Lord and extend His kingdom? Seek the Lord. Only through Him, the Rock of Ages, theEverlasting God, can you find abundant strength to renew your soul and revive your spirit.Commit to seeking the eternal God instead of dwelling on your temporary problems. Writedown what this name of God means to you.8Isaiah 9:6Isaiah 26:4Isaiah 40:28-31

E L RO IT HE GOD WHO SEESRE A D I N G G O D’ S N AMEThen she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, You-Are-the-GodWho-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?"GENESIS 16:13R EL ATED S C R IPTU R ERE F L ECTI N G O N GOD’ S N AMEEl Roi was first revealed in the Bible to Hagar. She was Sarah’s handmaiden, who becamepregnant with Abraham’s child and, after difficulties with Sarah, fled to the wilderness. Itwas in this wilderness that God met Hagar—saw her—and bestowed grace and mercy uponher. God found her in this wilderness pregnant, broken, lonely, rejected, friendless, povertystricken, and no doubt frightened by the circumstances of life. Having no idea what wouldbecome of her, Hagar lay down by a fountain in the wilderness. There, an angel appeared toher. In this moment, she felt seen by El Roi. Did you know that God sees you right now? Youare not alone, no matter the wilderness you are facing. In your loneliness, you can be met withGod’s love. In your fear, you can be met with God’s friendship. In your circumstances, you canbe met with God’s comfort. God sees you, knows you, and loves you. Even when the worldturns its head, God has His eyes on His children.RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEYou are seen by El Roi. You can lift up your circumstances, situations, and problems to theOne who has His eyes on you. He cares for you and seeks to comfort you. El Roi is a God ofsympathy. Bring your struggles and loneliness before Him now. You don’t have a heartache, trial, or difficulty that God does not see and know altogether. Psalm 34:18 says, “The LORD isnear to those who have a broken heart and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” Pray to El Roi,the God Who Sees, that you would feel seen and loved by Him. Ask Him to reveal His presenceto you.RE S P O N D I N G TO G OD’ S N AMEN OTE SThe greatest model of El Roi is in Jesus Christ. He saw those whom others ignored andministered to those who felt invisible. If you are a Christian, you are to model Christ. Christianliterally means “little Christ.” With Jesus’ model in mind, who can you lay your eyes on today? Can you minister to someone who feels unseen, unheard, and unloved? The greatest blessingsare often found in blessing others. Write down the name of someone you can share God’s lovewith today. If you feel lonely, someone else probably does as well. From a heart that feels seenand known by El Roi, we are empowered by the Spirit to extend love to others!9Genesis 16:1-16Psalm 33:18-19

E L S HADDAIGOD ALMIGHTYRE A D I N G G O D’ S N AMEWhen Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and saidto him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. And I will makeMy covenant between Me and you and will multiply you exceedingly.”GENESIS 17:1-2R EL ATED S C R IPTU R EGenesis 17:1-19RE F L ECTI N G O N GOD’ S N AMEGod is not just your Father or your Lord. He is God Almighty. In the Book of Genesis, we cansee the immutable, unbreakable promise that God made to Abram. Why are God’s promisesimmutable and unbreakable? Because He is God Almighty. He was, is, and always will befaithful to His people. This God that kept His promise to Abram is the same God that keepsHis promises to us through Jesus Christ. The Hebrew word Shaddai speaks of the God whonurtures and cares for His children. God is not just the living God; He is the giving God. InGod, we are complete, and no enemy can starve us out! Do you understand that your God islimitless? His supply never runs out!RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEWhen you pray to God, do you really think about Who you are praying to? God is the GodAlmighty. He cares for you and will keep His promises to you. Write out a prayer to El Shaddai.Ask Him to reveal His promises to you from His Word. Whatever it is that you are seeking, bring it before Him. His Word says that He will “ supply all your need according to His riches inglory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).RE S P O N D I N G TO G OD’ S N AMEN OTE SHas anyone ever broken a promise made to you? Do you struggle to trust people? GodAlmighty will not let you down. In Jesus Christ, He gives you everything you need. Hissufficiency is unmatched! Make a list of what you’re seeking. Whether it’s strength, satisfaction, sufficiency, or peace, your God—your El Shaddai and God Almighty—is theonly One who can supply it. If you look to the world for any of these things, you will bedisappointed. Commit to only looking to God to supply your needs. Matthew 6:33 says, “Butseek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added toyou.” Remember what God asked of Abram when He gave His promise to him. “Walk beforeMe and be blameless.” God is not just someone we go to in order to get what we need. GodAlmighty wants us to be holy and righteous. We obey Him no matter what. In His grace, Hechooses to give us good gifts. But we must always seek first His righteousness.10Genesis 28:3Genesis 35:11Genesis 43:14Genesis 48:3Exodus 6:2-3Ruth 1:20Job 5:17Ezekiel 10:5Psalm 91:1

E LOH IMT HE CREATORRE A D I N G G O D’ S N AMEIn the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.GENESIS 1:1R EL ATED S C R IPTU R ERE F L ECTI N G O N GOD’ S N AMEGenesis 1:1-3, 27-28Elohim is God the Creator—God of strength. This name is a combination of two HebrewPsalm 19:1-6root words: El, which means “unlimited strength and unlimited power,” and Allah, whichmeans “covenant keeper.” From this meaning, we can conclude that God is a God who cando anything and will always keep His word! Aren’t you glad that you worship a God of infinitestrength and absolute faithfulness? With God—Elohim—nothing is impossible. Elohim isa plural word, referring to the Holy Trinity. From the very beginning of the Bible, we get aglimpse of the nature of God—as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Allthree were present at creation (see John 1:3). God is through all. “For by Him all things werecreated that are in Heaven and that are on Earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones ordominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him”(Colossians 1:16). Elohim is a powerful God but also a personal God. He is over all of creation, butalso actively involved in every part of it.Psalm 95:6RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEWhen you pray to God as Elohim, you are praying to an artist that looks at you as amasterpiece (see Ephesians 2:10). You are praying to a potter that molded you as clay into abeautiful vessel to be used for His glory (see Isaiah 64:8). Do not act like God is oblivious to yourexistence. Pray to Him as the One who made you and knows you. What is the Spirit promptingyou to pray right now to God the Creator?RE S P O N D I N G TO G OD’ S N AMEN OTE SWhen you tear yourself or someone else down, you are insulting God’s creation. When you donot care for others or this world that you live in, you are tainting and neglecting God’s creation.Everything touched by the hands of God has value. The same God who created the Universecreated you. Do you have a personal relationship with your powerful Creator? If not, let us helpyou discover Jesus today! Repent for any of the ways you have insulted God’s creation.11Isaiah 40:28Isaiah 54:5Colossians 1:16Hebrews 11:3

It is the personal covenant nameof Israel’s God. In the Bible, it is often translated “LORD God.” The name speaks not only ofGod’s strength but also of God’s sovereignty and goodness. Yahweh means “self-existing.” Godis the Self-Existent One—One who never came into being, and One who always will be. WhenMoses asked God what name he should use for Him, God said “I AM.” Jehovah is the Great IAM. Yahweh displayed His character as personal, powerful, faithful, sovereign, and more in theOld Testament. Then, we see Jesus enter as the fulfillment of I AM in the New Testament.RE F E RRI N G TO G O D BY H IS N AMEYahweh was the name used when God was in relationship with His people or dealing with Hispeople. If you have a relationship with God, you can refer to Him as your Yahweh. In Exodus6:3, God tells Moses that He had appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by His name Jehovah, He was not known to them. You may have recognized the powerand sufficiency of God, but have you encountered His Personhood through Jesus Christ? Haveyou crossed over from knowledge to faith? God had established His covenant with Abraham,Isaac, and Jacob, but they had the choice to respond in faith and know Him as Jehovah. Godhas already made a way for you to know Him but you have to be willing to surrender your lifeto Him. Will you pray to God as your Jehovah today?
