2Determine Weight and SizeDomestic Air and UPS 3 Day Select Shipments, Including Puerto RicoSMDimensional Weight1. Determine actual weight.Use any standard scale and roundup any fraction of a pound to thenext full pound.2. Determine dimensionalweight.Multiply the package length bythe width by the height. For eachmeasurement, round off any fractionto the nearest whole inch (forexample, 1.00" to 1.49" will beconsidered 1 inch, and 1.50" to1.99" will be considered 2 inches).The result is the cubic size. Dividethe cubic size by 194 to determinedimensional weight in pounds.Increase any fraction to thenext pound.Multiple PackagesIf you have more than one packageto be shipped, consider each package a separate shipment for weightcalculation purposes.Dimensional Weight 3. Determine billable weight.Compare each package’s actualweight to its dimensional weight.The greater of the two weightsis the billable weight and shouldbe used to calculate the rate.4. Determine if Large AirPackage rules apply to yourUPS domestic shipments.Large Air PackagesA package shipped using a UPSAir Service or UPS 3 Day Select isconsidered a “Large Air Package”when its length, combined withtwice the width plus twice theheight, exceeds 130 inches, andis equal to or less than 165 inches.Large Air Packages are subject toa minimum billable rate of 130.After calculating the rate of thepackage, compare the rate to theminimum billable rate, and applythe greater of the two.To determine the rate for singlepackage shipments with a dimensional weight of 150 pounds ormore, multiply the package weightby the price per pound multiplier,located at the end of the applicablerate chart.Billable Weight:Actual or Dimensional?Determining which weight to usein calculating your rate requiresthat you determine which ruleapplies. Different rules applydepending on the serviceselected.Dimensional weight considersdensity, which is the amountof space a package occupiesin relation to its actual weight,to determine billable weight.Calculations of dimensionalweight are based on theInternational Air TransportAssociation (IATA) volumetricstandards (subject to changewithout notice).Irregularly Shaped PackagesMeasure boxes or containers thatare not rectangular to determinedimensional weight and whetherthe package is within maximumlimits. Treat the irregularly shapedpackage as if it were in a regularrectangular box. 4Determine Weight and SizeUPS Ground and UPS Standard To Canada ShipmentsOversize 1, 2 and 3Determine if Oversize 1, Oversize 2or Oversize 3 rules apply to yourUPS Ground and UPS Standard ToCanada shipments.Oversize 1A package is considered “Oversize1” (OS1) when its actual weightis less than 30 pounds and itscombined length and girth exceeds84 inches, and is equal to or lessthan 108 inches.For each OS1 package, the billableweight is 30 pounds.Oversize 2A package is considered “Oversize2” (OS2) when its actual weightis less than 70 pounds and itscombined length and girth exceeds108 inches, and is equal to or lessthan 130 inches.For each OS2 package, the billableweight is 70 pounds.Oversize 3A UPS Ground package is considered “Oversize 3” (OS3) when itscombined length and girth exceeds130 inches, and combined lengthand girth is equal to or less than165 inches, and actual weightis less than 90 pounds.For each UPS Ground OS3 package,the billable weight is 90 pounds.A Large Package Surcharge willbe applied.A UPS Standard To Canada packageis considered OS3 when its combined length and girth exceeds130 inches, and combined lengthand girth is equal to or less than165 inches, and actual weightis less than 150 pounds.For each UPS Standard To CanadaOS3 package, the billable weightis 150 pounds.Large Package SurchargeA Large Package Surcharge of 45will be applied to all domestic UPSGround packages, when the sizeof the package exceeds 130 inchesin length and girth combined.Items Shipped in BagsShape – When multiple itemsare shipped in a flexible container(e.g., burlap or plastic bag), thedimensional or oversize measurements will be determined whenthe exterior is at rest. As this shapewill differ from placement to placement, cubic size or length and girthmeasurements will be at the solediscretion of UPS. For domestic andinternational services, the billableweight will be the greater of thedimensional or oversize weight ascompared to the actual weight.Tails – A tail on an item shippedin a bag should be measured forthe amount of space it takes up ina reasonably compressed fashion.Any tail that is created by placingan item in a bag must be compressedand taped to the body of the item.
