Siemens AG 2013Flow MeasurementSITRANS F MSystem information SITRANS F Melectromagnetic flowmeters OverviewSITRANS F M electromagnetic flowmeters are designed for measuring the flow of electrically conductive mediums.High-powered flowmeters are used for difficult applicationswhere other flowmeters cannot stand up to the task. This flowmeter can handle liquids and heavy slurries in industries such asmining, cement and pulp and paper. The full SITRANS F M program consists of three different typesof flowmeters making Siemens unique in that it covers all possible applications where electromagnetic flowmeters are a suitable match:Modular pulsed DC flowmeters cover all ordinary applicationswithin all industries. The wide variety of combinations and versions from the modular system means that ideal adaptation ispossible to each measuring task and application.3SITRANS F M 911/TRANSMAG 2SITRANS F M productsBattery-operated water meters (fully electronic) are the perfectmatch for drinking water applications like network distribution, revenue metering and irrigation where mains power is not available. In addition, it complies with the MID (EU) and OIML R 49water meter standards and has the MCERTS certificate.SITRANS F M MAG 8000Siemens FI 01 · 20143/13

Siemens AG 2013Flow MeasurementSITRANS F MSystem information SITRANS F Melectromagnetic flowmetersEasier commissioning of MAG 5000, 6000, 6000 I BenefitsAll SITRANS F M pulsed DC electromagnetic flowmeters featurea unique SENSORPROM memory unit which stores sensor calibration data and transmitter settings for the lifetime of the product. At commissioning the flowmeter commences measurementwithout any initial programming. The factory settings matching the sensor size are stored in theSENSORPROM unit. Also customer specified settings are downloaded to the unit. Should the transmitter be replaced, the newtransmitter will upload all previous settings and resume measurement without any need for reprogramming.3Further, the „fingerprint“ used in connection with theSITRANS F M Verificator is stored during the initial sensor calibration.Easier serviceTransmitter replacement requires no programming.SENSORPROM automatically updates all settings after initialization.Room for growthUSM II the Universal Signal Module with "plug & play" simplicity, makes it easy to access and integrate the flow measurementwith almost any system and bus-protocol and it ensures the flowmeter will be easy to upgrade to future communication/bus platforms.Greater flexibility Wide product program Compact or remote installation using the same transmitter andsensor USM II communication platform for easy integration with allsystems ApplicationElectromagnetic flowmeters are suitable for measuring the flowof almost all electrically conductive liquids, pastes and slurries.A prerequisite is that the medium must have a minimum conductivity of 5 S/cm. The temperature, pressure, density and viscosity have no influence on the result. The main applications of the electromagnetic flowmeters can befound in the following sectors: Water and waste water Chemical industries Pharmaceutical industries Food and beverage industry Mining, aggregates and cements industries Pulp and paper industry Steel industry Power; utility and chilled water industryThe wide variety of combinations and versions from the modularsystem means that ideal adaptation is possible to each measuring task.3/14Siemens FI 01 · 2014

The calibration is conducted at Siemens flow facilities with traceable instruments referring directly to the physical unit of measurement according to the International System ofUnits (SI).A calibration certificate is shipped with every sensor and calibration data are stored in the SENSORPROM memory unit. Therefore, the calibration certificate ensures recognition of thetest results worldwide, including the US (NIST traceability).3Flowmeter uncertaintyMAG 5000 with MAG 1100, MAG 1100 F, MAG 5100 W, MAG 3100, MAG 3100 Pand MAG 6000 with MAG 1100 (PFA), MAG 1100 F (PFA)Flowmeter uncertainty[ % E]3,02,8V: Flow velocityE: Meter uncertainty as a percentage of measured valuev 0.1 m/s (0.3 ft/s) -- E: 0.4 1 mm/s *v 0.1 m/s (0.3 ft/s) -- E: (0.25/v) % of measured value2,62,42,2* MAG 5100 W (Article No. 7ME652.) Siemens AG 2013Flow MeasurementSITRANS F MSystem information SITRANS F Melectromagnetic flowmetersInstallation conditionsVibrationsFor partially filled pipes or pipes with downward flow and freeoutlet the flowmeter should be located in a U-Tube.Strong vibrations should be avoided. In applications with strong vibrations, remote mounting of thetransmitter is recommended.3Install in U-tubes when pipe is partially filledInstallation in vertical pipesRecommended flow direction: upwards. This minimizes theeffect on the measurement of any gas/air bubbles in the liquid. The sensor must always be completely filled with liquid.Install in vertical pipes with upward flow directionInstallation in horizontal pipesInstall in pipelines which are always fullThe sensor must always be completely filled with liquid. Therefore avoid: Installation at the highest point in the pipe system Installation in vertical pipes with free outletThe sensor must be mounted as shown in the below figure. Donot mount the sensor as shown in the lower figure. This can be achieved in different ways depending on the application: Wire jumper between sensor and adjacent flange (MAG 1100,MAG 3100) Direct metallic contact between sensor and fittings(MAG 1100 F) Build-in grounding electrodes (MAG 3100, MAG 5100 W) Optional grounding/protection flanges/rings (MAG 1100,MAG 3100, MAG 8000) Optional graphite gaskets on MAG 1100 (standard forMAG 1100 High Temperature) MAG 8000 installed in plastic or coated pipes: two groundingrings to be used.GroundingInstallation between elbows, pumps and valves: standard inlet and outletpipe sectionsTo achieve maximum accurate flow measurement it is essentialto have straight length of inlet and outlet pipes and a certain distance between the flowmeter and pumps or valves. It is also important to center the flowmeter in relation to pipeflange and gaskets.MAG 3100 (not PTFE), MAG 5100 W: with earthing electrodes in conductive and non-conductive pipes (no further action necessary)M6 x 16Ambient temperature-InstallationTemperature changes can cause expansion or contraction in thepipe system. To avoid damage on the sensor use of proper gasket and torque should be ensured.
