2January 2020Greetings Everyone,Red Wing Area Seniors kicked off 2019 with an initiative to do more to acknowledge individuals, companies andorganizations that donate, partner with and provide services to Red Wing Area Seniors and our members.Acknowledging these efforts came in many forms. We met with our dedicated team of front desk volunteers andasked them to add another job to their already lengthy list of responsibilities. The task-try to collect names andaddresses from people donating money and items whenever possible. Collecting this data has allowed us to sendout hundreds of handwritten thank you cards that we hope had expressed our gratitude by letting donors andvolunteers know how valuable they are and how much we appreciate what they do. As hard as we tried this yearto acknowledge everyone, we know that this system is not perfect. If you inadvertently were left out or notrecognized, please know that you are valued! In addition, to implementing our handwritten thank you post cards to acknowledge generosity, you may havenoticed that we added a “TOOT” section to the newsletter each month on page 13. This section allows us anopportunity to showcase some of the wonderful work our 833 members do in the community and provide us anopportunity to “TOOT” our own horn about the various ways we serve the community, and positively impact others. This “TOOT” features the work/services by Pier 55 and Annadee’s Closet. If you have a TOOT to share at anytime during the upcoming year, please send it my way! Together we can and do make a difference in Red Wingand the surrounding community. While I am at it, I couldn’t write about acknowledging efforts without mentioning how grateful I am for our staffand the hard work they do. This staffing team has been in place for a minimum of one year. Their commitment toRWAS and serving others makes my job easier and enjoyable. Shirls Perkins, Administrative Assistant, Stef Braun,Program Coordinator, Jolene King, Store Manager and Linda Rehder, Support Staff. These four, in addition to ourvolunteer team (many of whom have been with Red Wing Area Seniors long before I arrived) continue to be thelife blood of the organization. We also planned times in 2019 that we could acknowledge our MEMBERS by providing them a special benefitduring the year. In the spirit of that we added 50% off at Annadee’s Closet at least once a month if you showyour RWAS Membership Card. This has been a big hit! This year (beginning January 2020) if you stop at Pier55 and show us your membership card you will receive one of last year’s Bluffs of Lake City sponsored coffeemugs. If you can’t find your membership card, call or stop in to see Shirls Perkins. Watch throughout the year forother opportunities to be acknowledged for your continued support and membership.Looking back on this past year, feeling as though our efforts of gratitude and attempting to acknowledge variousgroups and/or people have been significant, I look forward to 2020 to bring new and exciting opportunities.Towards the top of that list would be better use of our room space, such as, adding new groups to our calendarand increasing revenue generated from room space rental. A huge Thank You to groups like the North StarQuilters, UCARE and BNI that rent space on a regular/scheduled basis. These groups are great to work with andhave around. Another area of exciting opportunity is the new Silver Sneakers program. These groups and/orprograms afford RWAS the ability to offer and even increase some of our no cost programming such asParkinson’s Support Services, Medical Equipment lending and various additional clubs, groups and supportservices. As we close the 2019 chapter and begin 2020, thank you, thank you, thank you to all those that donate to us,support our efforts, continue subscribing to be a member, and enjoy our programming and trips! Thank you to you,ALL of you, whom are a part of Red Wing Area Seniors, in any way, big or small. In service,Kim Wojcik, Executive Director
