Design an investigation toidentify whether unknownsamples are metals,nonmetals, and semimetals Use the pictures and or available items again to remind the learnersabout ‘The properties and uses of metals and non-metals’ that they weretaught in Grade 5, using terms such as shiny, dull, hard, malleable, strong,brittle, ductile, conducts electricity, conducts heat, etc. Check how many learners can still remember the meaning of all thewords. Use science dictionaries and or the internet to find the meaning of thewords mentioned above. Learners should all be encouraged to readthem aloud, explain their meaning and use them in sentences (toaddress Language Across Curriculum (LAC). Brainstorm with the learners some everyday items that are made ofmetals nonmetals and semi-metals? Explain to the learners how Scientists organized the elements into thesethree groups: metals, nonmetals, and semi-metals in the periodic tablewith focus on the common properties of the elements which are placednear each other. PLEASE NOTE:In Grade 7, the Learnersare introduced to someproperties of metals, nonmetals, and semi-metals.They will learn more about Introduce and explain using examples some physical and chemicalproperties of metals, nonmetals, and semi-metals. Ensure that you definethese properties fromvarious terms.
