You see, we had broken downthe large cardboard boxes from the nearby appliance store intown and laid them down the bank of the canal behind our house. We dared the kid to ride his bike toward the canal and put on hisbrakes while on a loose piece of cardboard like a sled and slidedown the bank. We never told him how he was to end up. So,after a lot of encouragement, he finally says ‘yes’ and proceeds tocareen down the bank right into the canal. And we all fell to theground laughing like crazy. Now, I know that this was a not a gooddare. I did apologize years later. But the point is that there is power in a dare. Most of us are havea daring spirit. We almost always want to rise to the challenge ofsomething put before us, especially if done by a peer, a teacher oran employer. In general, we like to be dared. So, I want to dare you to something. This Lent I dare you to reallydo Lent. What does that mean? First of all, I dare you to set a timefor prayer every day during Lent. Yes, every day; at least fiveminutes. Just five minutes. Use a timer. You’ll be surprised howdreadfully long five minutes are when you are alone with God. Tryit. I dare you.Sat. 03/07I also dare you to go to Stations of the Cross every Friday duringLent. Come to church at 7 pm each Friday and walk the Way ofthe Cross. Just a half hour. I dare you. Here’s an incentive – youcan go to the fish fry across the street first.Sun. 03/08Another thing I dare you to do during Lent is go to the Sacramentof Confession, especially if it’s been a while since you went. I dareyou.St. Perpetua & St. FelicityDt 26:16-19; Mt 5:43-488:00am HRDiana Martin4:30pm HRRichard AppleSecond Sunday of LentGn 12:1-4a; 2 Tm 1:8b-10; Mt 17:1-98:00am HRBud Youngs9:30am SPMary Ellen Kroger11:00am HRLinus RiethmanThank you to all who sent cards, came tothe viewing or funeral and all who haveexpressed sympathy to me at the loss ofmy Mother. Your kindness and prayers aregreatly appreciated. Finally, I dare you to offer up something that really costs you, that’s a real sacrifice for you. For example, I’m giving up pop onceagain. I love to drink pop, especially when I eat out. I’m going toonly drink water. That is going to cost me. But I’m going to takemy own dare and do it this Lent. There are other things you can do during Lent and I’ll dare younext week. They are all things that will challenge you on a spirituallevel and bring you to a deeper living of your Catholic Faith. So,have a great Lent I dare you!Finance Committee NewsDo you feel called to help the parish keep the on the right trackfinancially?
