Participants should view this as “Landerthrough the decades,” in that groups can use any decade to represent throughout the week events. Thisis a time to celebrate the throwback moments throughout the years. For example: the showcase could bea 90’s theme (song and dance) and your banner may be a groovy theme from the 70’s.The Homecoming event forms are attached. Please make sure your forms are complete with alldrawings, descriptions and scripts necessary when submitted. Late and/or incomplete forms without alldocumentation will not be accepted.Homecoming rules for each event, as well as general rules, are in the enclosed information. Allparticipants are responsible for reading and abiding by all rules. The Office of Student Activities reservesthe right to make any changes to the rules or to this document at any time before, after, or during thehomecoming week. Sponsor a King & Queen Candidate*Student organizations or student groups only*An organization/team may sponsor one student for Queen and one student for King. Multipleorganizations or groups may not sponsor the same candidate. Due to the scheduling of interviews andpictures, the queen and king candidates must turn in their own forms.The sponsoring organization/team must participate in a minimum of five events in order to sponsor acandidate.Each candidate must have completed 12 hours at Lander prior to the spring of 2020 semester and havea Lander cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above. Candidates must be a full time Lander University student(currently carrying at least 12 semester hours). Candidates must not be on academic or disciplinaryprobation.There is no fee for organizations to sponsor a king or queen candidate. Each group will be awarded fivepoints if they sponsor a King contestant and five points if they sponsor a queen contestant.King and Queen candidates are highly encouraged to attend all pointed and non-pointed events.Popularity vote (50%) and an interview process (50%) will select the Homecoming King & Queen. Allnominees will be recognized at halftime of the women’s and men’s games on Wednesday, February 12thand the winners will be announced on Saturday, February 22nd (Kings – halftime of the women’s game;Queens – halftime of the men’s games.) If two or more candidates tie for the overall scoring of King,Queen or any runner-up, the highest interview score will break the tie. EVENTS MEDALLION HUNT- All Week (Monday-Friday)One medallion will be hidden on campus or in the greenwood city limits each day. Clues to where themedallion is hidden will be released on @lander student activities Instagram at 12:00 pm each day.Participants must return found medallion to student activities to receive points for that day. One foundmedallion will equal 10 points.PAINT LANDER BLUE – Monday, February 17th Groups will decorate a department door or window on campus to reflect the homecoming theme andLander spirit.Groups are responsible for contacting a department they would like to decorate and gaining permission.Groups will have from 5:30 pm-11:00 pm Monday, February 17th to decorate the door or window.Departments are encouraged to participate. Using a Video? It must be in DVD format, NO POWERPOINT!Music – must be in a CD format. The CD should contain only the songs you are using, in the correct orderof your performance.All music and recordings must be appropriate, no explicit language, etc. and will be approved by theOffice of Student Activities by 1/29, with a resubmission due 2/4 by 3:00 pm.If your group is using a CD, one member of the organization must sit with the technical crew during theirperformance.Groups participating in Throwback Showcase will sign up for a dress rehearsal time when they turn intheir entry form. All participants must attend dress rehearsal on Sunday, February 16th. Failure toparticipate in the dress rehearsal will disqualify your organization from Throwback Showcase. Athleticshoes should be worn by all participants. High heels are not allowed on the gym floor.All participants in the Throwback Showcase must be members of your organization/group.Each group is responsible for its props. Do not use any type of prop/product that would leave anyresidue or debris on the floor. Clear the floor completely once your performance is over. Pointdeductions could occur if groups do not follow instructions.Time limit – The maximum time allowed for set-up, performance and tear down/clean up should notexceed 8 minutes. Check-in time begins after BannerReveal.Each group should be identifiable by signs, banners, or t-shirts.NCAA rules prohibit the use of any type of noisemakers, such as sticks, air horns, beating drums/trashcans, pennies in a jug, etc. Any group with any type of noisemaker WILL be disqualified.Participating groups should sit in the lower deck on the home side of the Arena.The criteria for judging will be based on The Spirit of Lander (25%), Signage (25%), Dress/Costume (25%),and Group identity (25%).BEARCAT BLAST- Thursday, February 20thPEES Gym @ 4:00 pm*Location is subjected to change. Please be on the lookout from the Office of Student Activities or the Office of Campus Recreation. * Come out and support your fellow bearcats during the “Strongest Bearcat” Powerlifting Competition.The meet will allow each participant three attempts at the Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlift combined.Join us as we determine the strongest male and female bearcat!CHANDLER SOAP BOX RACE PARADE– Friday, February 21PEES Circle – Soap Box judging and parade – 4:00pmWilson Street – Race – 4:30pm Soapbox entries cannot be manufactured.Soapbox entry should match the photo and description submitted on Friday, February 7th by 3:00pm.The soapboxes will line up in front of the Front Lawn, near the fountain by 3:30pm. Each group will beannounced and go around the PEES Circle to a specific spot for judging and public view beginning at 4:00pm. Ten points will be deducted from your overall score if your car is late.After the car judging, cars will move to the top of Wilson Street for the race. Entries may not be alteredin any way for the race.Three people can push the car to get it started. The pushers do not have to be from your team;however, they must be currently enrolled Lander students. The driver must be from your team.Drivers must wear an approved helmet (i.e. ANSI or SNELL) as well as knee pads and elbow pads, and itis suggested that they wear long pants instead of shorts.A working brake system must be in place at the time of judging. Testing of the breaking mechanism willdetermine if the car can race. If the braking system is inoperable, the car will not race. Each entry will begiven one opportunity to cross the finish line.Points will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place based on time trials.Criteria for car appearance judging: Spirit of Lander (40%), Overall Appearance (25%), Creativity (25%),and Identifiable Organization/Team Name (10%).
