All inspection services areprovided following international standards (API,DS-1, NS-2, ASNT) and can be integrated in apackage with other services to ensure smoothdelivery of technical support and elimination ofquality nonconformities.All our inspectors have more than 5 years offield experience and are certified in variousinspection methods, such as: Magnetic Particle Inspection Liquid penetrant testing Ultrasonic testing Visual inspection Training Syllabus covering Drill StemInspection in accordance with DS-1 and APIRP 7G-2Our NDT inspection covers the following: Inspection of drill pipes 5 1/2, 5", 4 1/2, 4", 3 1/2", 2 7/8, 2 3/8DRILL PIPESFor drill pipe inspection Black Lake uses NewTech Systems electromagnetic inspection units(EMI) with wall loss monitor. These units arecapable of inspecting OD drill pipe rangingfrom 2 3/8" up to 5 1/2". In addition to tubularbody inspection, thread inspection is carriedout both visually and dimensionally for API andpremium connections. Black LakeINSPECTION ANDINSTRUMENTATIONBOTTOM HOLE ASSEMBLIESEDDY CURRENT INSPECTIONBottom Hole Assembly (“BHA”) inspectionconsists of inspection of drill collars, heavyweight drill pipe, cross over subs, stabilisers,reamers and bit subs. The inspection of BottomHole Assemblies includes wet, fluorescent,magnetic particle inspection of threads andupset areas, and visual inspection of threadsfor mechanical damage and over torque. BHAinspections will conform to API RP 7G-2,T.H.Hill DS-1, or any other standards nominatedby the customer.Eddy current flaw detection is an NDTtechnique that can provide important timeand cost savings as the rig structure does notrequire sandblasting prior to inspection.The eddy current tool can be applied forvarious purposes, such as: Crack detection Material thickness measurement Coating thickness measurement Conductivity measurement for heatdamage detectionMAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTIONWe also offer the Magnetic Particle Inspection(MPI) of drilling rig mast, sub base, pipeelevators, slips, tongs, sheaves, welded areasof high-pressure lines and other hoisting anddrilling equipment. Most of the above items areinspected, utilising A.C. Yoke magnetic flowtechnique.Some of the advantages of eddy currentinspection include: Sensitivity to small cracks Identification of surface and near surfacedefects Ability to inspect complex shapes andsizes of conductive materials Minimum requirement for equipmentpreparation11

Our LEEAcertified inspectors are cross-trained at ASNTLevel II in all the inspection methods mentionedearlier.Instrumentation is a specialised oilfield servicesection for systems used on inland and offshoredrilling and servicing rigs. We offer a tightlyintegrated package of services includinginstallation, commissioning, on-site troubleshooting, remote support and both in-houseand mobile calibration.INSPECTION TRACKING SYSTEMThe Black Lake Soft Tracking System analysesdata about every piece of equipment on aclient’s location that requires inspection andautomatically provides recommendation forre-inspection dates. A customer receives analert with suggested inspection dates andschedules the service date with Black Lakerepresentatives. Black Lake team will monitorthe client’s assets inspection expiry datesto ensure all the equipment on site remainsinspected as per quality standards.In addition, all the inspection reports areuploaded into secure online reporting system,which allows access to inspection reports at alltimes through the Black Lake website.14
